I know that the Outsider (native) typed planetouched (Aasimar/Tiefling) are balanced in Pathfinder compared to the other starting player races. What would be needed to change them to be humanoid(planetouched) (like the Lesser Planetouched in 3.5e) so that I could add templates to them that require humanoid yet still be balanced? (Considering this would open them to all sort of new vulnerabilities to certain spells and such.) Thanks for your insights!

If you're a GM, you can do that any way. Dragons can mate with anything. Personally, I think you're just trying to have your cake and eat it too. If you're a player in a game, ask your GM. If you ARE the GM, your question is moot since you're house ruling that Planetouched are humanoid simply to add a template when you can just add the template to them anyway. This reeks of powergaming min/maxing.

Min/max isn't the point I liked the Lesser Planetouched in 3.5 better as they weren't outsiders and could be affected by the x person line of spells and effects that affect humanoids which most pc's stick to anyway. It was simply a question of worth; what is outsider worth in terms of power compared to the other races. Balance is a good thing in my opinion when I'm GMing and PCing.

Then either convert the lesser planetouched, or what BBT said in the post above, or just chane the tiefling and aasimar to be humanoid. They'd still be balanced in that light. I didn't mean to snap at you. I HATE mix/maxers and powergamers...ugh. It's called a ROLEplaying game, not a ROLLplaying game, but I digress...

Don't worry about snapping Luna, this is the internet. Everyone ends up being unable to get at the intentions of others. It is just the nature of text communication leaving us unable to feel empathy. Mixed with a good bit of anonymity and everyone gets crazy.
Well, since you want to mess around with the traits of a race, you might as well look here: Creating New Races
It lets you compare how races are balanced based on what the people at Paizo value each trait. Obviously, in some cases like this, there are tertiary advantages that are not accounted for. For the ones that are accounted for, Native Outsider only provides darkvision compared to Humanoids. I'll admit, tiefling and aasimir are kind of on the upper limit of being balanced with the other races. (especially aasimir and their darn no negative stat adjustments *grumbled the tiefling fan*)The switch would lower them down a point. Just switch out the type and give back their darkvision and most players would not really notice any difference very often. I doubt you'd find many problems as either a GM or player introducing this switch, since it is relatively minor.
