Game Summit - Feb 2-3, 2013 - Ottawa, Ontario

Local Play

4/5

I've reached out to the organizers of Game Summit, a convention in Ottawa, and am working with some players from Ottawa and Montreal to get PFS represented at the convention. The con is receptive and enthusiastic, and at this point, my biggest challenge is in getting enough local GMs to run all of the tables I am trying to plan.

So, if you're interested in joining us at Game Summit, and are willing to GM a table or two over the course of the weekend, please email me at jeff@ontariopathfinders.com. The convention offers the following rewards for GMs:

* 1 Day Gamer Passport + 4 Tokens (day of your shift, upgrade to a Weekend Passport for $20)
* $10 coupon to be used at any Merchant (provided at the end of your shift)

Once I have the schedule finalized and everything ready to go, I'll post here with more details.

Even if you don't want to GM be sure to come to play. We will have plenty of tables- sounds like it will be a great little con!

Liberty's Edge

I will be there to play for sure. Hopefully there will be a few tables at different times.

We have several tables for each slot of the con.

I delivered posters to all the local game stores yesterday. A few of them said they had quite a few people asking about PFS and nobody running it. I think that foreboding sensation I am feeling is more of my free time getting sucked away from me as I consider starting something up.

Any interest out there in a weekly or biweekly PFS meetup in Ottawa?

There is now a final schedule for Game Summit! We'll be offering a total of 20 tables over the course of the convention, with an emphasis on lower-level scenarios, but also some higher-level offerings. Come out and join us - you can get your convention badges and pre-register for PFS games through the convention website at www.gamesummit.ca. I would be interested in weekly and possilby two other people as well. Two of us live in the Kanata region and the other out in the East side of the city.

Seems to me that I was only a few sessions away from that 4th star....

On an "unrelated to Game Summit" note, I'm happy to do what I can remotely to support regular PFS play in Ottawa. I find myself up that way a couple of times a year, as it's where my family lives, but not regular enough to take the lead myself. If anyone wants to initiate organizing in-store public play in the area and needs some advice or support, drop me an email and I'll do whatever I can.

Robert Trifts started public play in Toronto about a year and a half ago and now we've got a community of roughly 50 players, and growing, at two weekly events and occasional conventions. This was very much a case of "if you build it, they will come," and I don't expect that Ottawa would be any different.

On top of that, there's space for an Ottawa event to use our event registration system and forums at OntarioPathfinders.com, if people want.

Just sayin'. :)

I'm thinking about it. Will look at my schedule in January to see if I can make a go of it. Of course if someone else wants to go for it, I have spoken to a couple of game stores that would be interested... Angus?

Hi everyone,

Games are now live and available for pre-registration at the Game Summit website! If you're from out-of-town and need a way to get to Ottawa for the game, check out the Gamer Bus, with stops in London, Toronto, and Kingston; or in Montreal.

Hope to see lots of Society Players out for this event!

Looking forward to it. Any idea how we get our GM passes so we can register for events? It appears that you need a passport to register. I can ask but I wasn't sure if you might already know the answer.

If anyone needs advice on accommodations etc let me know. Really looking forward to this con!

I think I saw somewhere that they're expecting 1500-2000 people at the con, which is great news. Come out and join us!

Unfortunately, I'm unable to get the weekend off :(

Have a great time!!

Hey Jeff, can you remind me of this for next year? I need to go to Ottawa sometime for a few reasons, and this could be one of them. Ditto YYZ, actually.

4/5

Toronto's big convention season is around this time of year as well - there's not much in YYZ in the fall. Spellstorm and Gryphcon are the big two in Southern Ontario at the moment. Regrettably, they're both on the same weekend (early March) this year, but that's not always the case.

There is also Fan Expo in Toronto. While roleplaying is only a tiny, tiny part of the Con we did have something like 20 tables last year.

But the rest of the show is pretty entertaining :-)

One last bump before this weekend. Hope to see a lot of PFS players! :)

If anyone is coming in Friday night and looking for stuff to do, let me know! I would be happy to grab a pint with fellow GMs if any of you gents are at loose ends for the evening.

Thanks for coming gents! It was a fun weekend with lots of new PFS converts.

Thanks for all the fun to all those who participated, especially those who travelled from out of town.
