Plot Ideas Brainstorm

Liberty's Edge

Looking to brainstorm with people on plot ideas. Some of what I'm planning on including here is stimulated by Fiction/TV, other stuff by coming across various oddities that look like they might work for a fantasy game. Feel free to pitch in.

Please try to keep this mainly as an index by starting and linking threads that start to get complex. I'll try to post a summary index periodically that will appear towards the end of the thread and which I'll put a link in my profile.

Liberty's Edge

Concept Origin: Warehouse 13, Season 1, Episode 4, "Claudia."

Two NPCs are bound through some mechanism, with one surviving only by the weakening of the other. A mechanism exists to recover the parasitical NPC, but only by killing the other, or the link can be severed at the loss of the parasite. PCs have a moral quandary. Add complications either by a solution that will save both, or which allows for a subsequent interaction with the supposed lost parasite. Allows sub-plots re: the mechanism of how to assemble the components needed to either severe the link, with options on different paths resulting in saving one, the other, or both. Allows for recurring appearance of NPCs, possibly on other planes, through undeath, etc.

Liberty's Edge

Concept Origin: Catano, a conceptual keyboard instrument that inflicts pain on cats, selected according to the pitch of their wails, to provide tones played on a keyboard. Similar concept: Cat Organ (see wiki as well as animal friendly version on youtube).

Core idea: a fiendish bard is assembling a musical instrument that is made up of the voices of different creatures. Variations arise, with hooks depending on the variation. Could be creatures of a single type (all cats), sentient creatures trained to sing a single note, collections of various creatures that give rise to hunt/capture side-quests, etc. Possible sub-campaign for a twisted or evil party.

Thematic add-ons: musical instruments of various types ("bells" made of various skulls with different resonant properties, for example). Allow the creative juices to run wild: think of materials for drum skins, flutes and other woodwinds, instruments made from plants that are shaped as they are grown (adds druid NPC/BBG element), giants blowing alphorns across a large geographical area, different planes of existence somehow generating different notes or orchestral color; artistic possibilities in a fantasy setting.
