Scarab Sages

I loved the season 3 opener last night. Fantastic. Lots of zombie action! A big improvement over last season in just one episode.

Weird fact I learned today: The guy who plays Rick was in that movie Love Actually. He's the best friend in love with Kiera Knightley's character! HOLY S$@#!!! MIND = BLOWN!

Liberty's Edge

You are correct. The wife and I inevitably watch "Love Actually," around Christmas time.

I kept wondering what I'd seen him in, and I haven't yet conditioned myself to instantly check IMDB.

Scarab Sages

Yeah, it was weird. I found a random article on the new season that was kind of a "Then and Now" thing of some of the actors. I had always wondered why Rick seemed so familiar to me. My wife also periodically tries to force me to watch that movie.

Liberty's Edge

I figure it's a fair trade. I always force her to watch, "A Christmas Story."

Laurie Holden (Andrea), Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale), Melissa McBride (Carol), and Juan Gabriel Pareja (Morales) all worked with Frank Darabont in the movie "The Mist" (awesome horror flick, very Lovecraftian). Also, Samuel Witwer (Private Jessup, from "The Mist") makes a cameo in TWD as the walker inside the tank in Season One.

Also: Poor Herschel. I feel sorry for the guy.

Yeah, the first episode was awesome. The ending was so brutal (as well as surprising). I hope it continues at this pace. Not that there's anything wrong with drama, but I'm loving the action.

RE: Herschel

Spoiler:
Why in the nine hells would they be dumb enough to take the doctor into parts unknown when the baby is due pretty much now? It's not like they were using guns and he could have been a useful asset in battle. They were going in purely melee with an old man needed elsewhere.

It made absolutely no sense whatsoever, and Herschel would have been the first one to point it out. I can't stand it when writers decide that story plotting overrides characters' common sense completely out of character. Now we "get to" sit through an agonizingly overdone "birth without a doctor" scene, ugh.

Yeah, my buddy and I were discussing exactly that Herschel point here at work.

how in the nine hells these slow zombies managed to survive

I have to say, those armless and jawless zombies that Michonne has are awesome. They look so real. I'm not even sure how they do that special effect, jawless / armless actors? :) Nothing would surprise me anymore.

I agree with Reckless, I was thinking the same thing. Why risk it? I think he's going to make it though.

Truth of the matter, they have been looking for a reason to kill him.

Spoiler:
He was supposed to die at the end of the last season, but they couldn't find a good reason to do it with out being piss poor cheesy. I knew something was up when they had all those potential walkers lying around and they were not chopping their heads off, stabbing them, or anything just to be sure.

However the truth of the matter is, they are rushing it, and the closer she gets to delivery the more hasty his actions have become, even though they are showing a massive improvement in organization, planing, tactics, preparedness, and simple common-sense!

The last episode was great with the prisoners. More please!

Scarab Sages

Indeed. Lasts night's episode was awesome.

Spoiler:
Really interesting to see how ruthless Rick is becoming. And how ready to fight for the lives of, not just actual family, but his entire group/family.

Also, I really like the development they've been doing with Carl. Gone is the whiny little brat who gets in trouble, replaced by the "hey, I just went and found the dispensery and brought back these medical supplies. By the way, I did it by myself and killed two walkers on the way."

Of course, Lori continued to desmonstrate her qualities as mother of the year by completely missing out that her son had gone out....

Yeah, Karl is badass now. When Hershel came back, he was the only one who had a gun trained at his head. Basically, he was doing what Glenn was supposed to be there for.

Can't wait until next week. If it continues like this, I hope they never stop.
