I happen to like them together. I totally get why they work. They compliment each other very well and they're fun to watch.
It's also fun that now when Oliie growls, the team cowers, Diggle's like "Whatever Oliver" and Felicity's "Are you done?"
They are better not being a couple though.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
There are others with my opinion (who are more eloquent). Also some commentary on the Kara/Mon-el thing we've discussed in that thread.

Thomas, I'm beginning to think there are some who would argue the color of the sky, boiling point of water, and the speed of light. Just because they weren't the ones to make the original decision.

(I believe I mentioned this before) Chase got Black Siren out of ARGUS custody, but couldn't get himself out.
Chase set thousands of charges all over the island, and the ARGUS facility didn't notice?
Also, that temple was visible from just up the hill from the crashed plane - Base Camp from season 1 - but he only ever saw it once before?
Apologies for the double post, it wouldn't let me edit.

I get what they were going for: they were trying to juxtapose who Oliver was during his last hours on the island before going home with who he is now, but it could have been done a little better.
I do agree that the non-cliffhanger cliffhanger was lame.
It was nice seeing a sane Slade doing his thing, though.

There is actually a reason that shows will often end a season with 'everyone could be dead' scenarios. Beyond the obvious 'cliffhanger to get the audience to come back', there is this thing called contract negotiations.
Arrow was originally planned as a five year show. Thus, it seems likely that many of the actors have contracts expiring this year. So, suppose Willa Holland asks for more money than they are willing to pay... oh, so sad... everyone except Thea made it to safety in time.

![]() |

CB has a good point. I didn't see the cliffhanger as "OMG did everyone die", but as "OMG, who died?" Regardless of contract negotiations, they could kill off someone for narrative reasons. I'm guessing that since Katie Cassidy is confirmed to be a regular again next season, that the new Black Canary (who's name escapes me) might be killed - since who needs 2 sonic scream meta Black Canaries?
Also, I'm thinking that William's mom is likely dead, making Oliver having to deal with being a full time dad, on top of being mayor and Green Arrow.

MMCJawa |

Yeah I suspect William's mom is dead, because that leads to more storylines for next season. And Slade might be dead just because Deathstroke is going to (probably?) be in the DCU.
Strangely enough Wild Dawg and Lance are the characters I am actually most concerned about, since pairing those characters up was one of the best decisions Arrow has made. Would never thought that at the beginning of Season 5.

Joel,
No one knows for sure but some rumors are it's clearly someone that knows the city and has access to some pretty swank tech along with tactical training.
As for the ending? Honestly Arrow's ending doesn't bother me any more since I have to CARE about characters to feel bad about it. This isn't the show we started with. So...yeah.
Flash's ending ANNOYED the hell out of me more than this.
Supergirl's ending was more inspiring and uplifting than either of them.
As for who is actually dead? Well obviously since Jack Barrowman isn't in Arrowverse, Malcolm is dead. Whether or not Slade is...harder to say.

Ohhhh I don't write Malcolm off yet. He's way to liked to be killed off-screen like that. I'm sure he could have shielded himself with one of those grunt soldiers and him and Boomerang live to fight again.
And if not... then THAT is what will annoy me. If even half of these long established rogue characters die... then this episode was WAY too much a bloodbath for a shared universe. Throwing Deathstroke, Boomerang, and Merlin on the same pyre is just... bad.
As for ARGUS... I feel bad for the one guy who seemed to be doing his job keeping Slade captive who undoubtedly was killed for his trouble...

Really, Merlyn is the most likely to have died there. But he is called 'the Magician,' so he might still have a trick left up his sleeve...
That sort of off-screen explosion situation is just the sort of thing that would typically lead to Boomerang showing up again with some facial scarring, and a story about how he *almost* died.
As for the others, naw, we didn't see bodies, and practically the last thing Felicity said was humblebragging about her and Mr. Terrific having fiddy-jillion-made-up-number IQ between them, so it would be kind of a Chekov's-gun-fail for them not to think up something clever just in the nick of time.
Like; "Hey, we don't have to disarm *all* the bombs on the island, just this one right next to us!"
Even Wild Dog could think of that!
As for ARGUS... I feel bad for the one guy who seemed to be doing his job keeping Slade captive who undoubtedly was killed for his trouble...
Well, yeah, him, and the two that were left unconscious in the building that we clearly saw was rigged to blow (Black Siren and Talia al-Ghul, neither of whom I expect to be dead, because they are both kind of plots-in-waiting), and the one that was left in a steel cage, in the middle of the woods (What's her name, Evelyn Sharpe?, who will, at best, die of dehydration, even if she isn't close to any bombs).
Really, the only guaranteed deaths are Chase, and the ninja NPCs that showed up with Talia. (They must get those guys on the cheap, because even people like Diggle and Rene can kick their butts in hand to hand *when they have swords,* and they fall over almost as fast as Hand ninja who've just heard 'shnikt').

Well...Barrowman has said he won't be in any CWverse shows next year, so it seems likely that if Merlin DID survive we won't find out in season 6.
Boomerang I think is dead just because the WB has historically not liked Arrow/Flash using characters that are going to be used in the movies. Although Supergirl at least seems to suggest they are relaxing that. Too bad because I like his actor, who is a reoccurring character on The Expanse and also was pretty decent on Person of Interest.

[tangent] Also treacherously fun in Spartacus, where he also worked with Manu Bennet/Deathstroke. (Every time his character would slide in from the shadows, there'd be a background sound of a snake hissing or rattling or something. It was very cool. Nobody else got their own identifying sound effect!) [/tangent]

The only reason I would really think that Merlyn WAS dead... was that his character didn't really have anywhere else to go. He's been Evil. He's been good. He jumped ship and terrorized the Legends, He's been Ra's and now made a final sacrifice for Thea...
Anything else they did with him would be... redundant. He's outstayed his welcome... the only thing left is to join team arrow and he'd just dominate the show then.
So yeah... he May be gone for good, but I still think Merlyn could have gotten out of that trap. And of course there is always alternate universe Merlyns... maybe someone who is NOT Thea's dad...

Merlyn ain't dead.
He's the Magician.
If anybody can pull the mine out from his foot and toss it at the bad guys quick enough to make it out, it's him.

Joel,
Maybe but I'm kind of not expecting to see him in Arrow...if ever. Mostly because I think he's grown tired of doing that character.
I could be wrong.
I hear you, but I he's also a pretty big fanboy overall. So when series finale time comes, and they want to pull out all of the stops, I think he'll show up.

Blake's 7 had Avon when they didn't have Blake. Team Arrow doesn't have any such character who could carry the show. Hell, even Ollie as written barely carries it (was it really too much to hope for them to give us sardonic bearded Ollie)
Avon lost something when he had to actually make the decisions, instead of just challenging Blake's. He was still awesome though.
Ollie on Arrow is taking the fact the character was a off-brand Batman, and making him a substitute for $Batman (ka-ching!). The character would be better if they would let him evolve into a lighter attitude. But they keep writing reasons for him to be dark and brooding. Amell is great when he is being upbeat. He could do the classic comic attitude, even if he looks terrible with the van d*#*.
DCEU, bad as it is, might get Ollie right, since they already have Batfleck.
