My group is looking at playing Hell's Vengeance in about a year or so (we have other AP's to finish) and I can't help but think this would be an awesome archetype just oozing with flavour to play in that AP! Thanks for the necro!

Of all the threads to cast Animate Thread, it was cast on the stinky one.

That said, my recommendation 4 years ago would have been to keep a Periapt of Health and lend it to whoever you're talking to. I think it was actually mentioned upthread.

I don't see what the problem is... just keep your distance from people.

Even in town, in a crowded bar... people will only be affected for a short while.

It guarantees you will have a table to yourself (unless your adventuring companions choose to ignore the role-playing aspects of your stink, and sit with you).

How NPCs react to this will vary, but by no means is this character unplayable! Just gross.

Miasma is a poison why are they treating it as a disease?

Because, Doppelganger, Miasma was for a long time considered to be a carrier/causer of disease.

"Miasma" wouldn't necessarily smell bad; it's like a cloud of ethereal contagion that makes creatures sick, rather than just sickening creatures with a bad smell. An invisible cloud of spores would be an easy theme for it. A creature standing in a miasma might have no idea why they suddenly feel ill, though they'd probably put it together pretty quickly with the way the ability works.

If one were to play this as a PC, assuming the rest of the players are cool with it, what direction would you take the build? Spellcaster? Wildshape? It seems that the expanded selection of domains sort of points you in the direction of spellcasting.

Has anyone ever tried taking the Darkness Domain with this archtype?

a goblin would be fun. nobody expects them to smell very good anyways.

No. The point is the blight druid's ability specifically says you become immune for 24 hours once you succeed on a save.

So, all you need to do to become immune for the day is to stay adjacent to the blight druid until you succeed. Eventually, you'll roll a 20 (or otherwise high enough to save). Then, go adventure without fear of becoming sickened again that day.

Game mechanics wise, sure, no problem. Role-play wise...

Nothing like starting off every adventuring day with two minutes of dry heaving, choking, and gagging on the smell of rotted vegetation. Really gets the blood pumping for an energy filled and enthusiastic day. And I get to look forward to that every morning...

That's similar to how a mummy PC was used in one of my previous games. He woke everyone up in the morning so they could get over their jump-scare and get on with the adventuring.

Makes a great bad guy though, doesn't it?

Interestingly enough, Blight Druid can access the Rage subdomain...

Looking at the Miasma ability of the Blight Druid archetype, I get more than a little worried.

Miasma (Ex)

"Starting at 5th level, if a blight druid is adjacent to a creature at the beginning of its turn, the creature must succeed at a Fortitude save with a DC of 10 + 1/2 the druid’s level + the druid’s Wisdom modifier or become sickened for 1 round. A creature of the animal, fey, or plant type that fails its save is nauseated for 1 round and sickened for 1 minute thereafter. If the creature makes its save, it is immune to this effect for 24 hours, as are creatures immune to disease."

It says nothing about shutting down the ability in any way. The druid is just surrounded by a tangible disease-ridden "mist" that he/she has no control over. How are you supposed to play a Blight Druid and NOT get everyone hostile towards you when you just suddenly start to sicken everyone? Solutions and suggestions are welcome, since I actually want to play a Blight Druid some day (I have the character ready and all) and not have to spend 99% of the time away from everyone else.

It's like playing a cleric of an evil deity, they'll usually dislike you to some degree, but you do have merit or you wouldn't be in the party. As for the blight druid specifically, remember, they only have to make the save once, to be immune for 24 hours, so if they want to be near you, they just need to find an out-of-combat time to stand next to your PC. I recommend resistance or guidence to assist with these rolls.

I have run a blight druid. Main issue arrises if another player has an animal companion or mount. Sickened is annoying, but tollerable, while nauseated is a very unpleasent condition. I suggest against blight druids if the party has animal companions or mounts. Still, they only need to save once every 24 hours, provided they pass, so it can be endured. Still, if the party has 2 or more animals, I wouldn't include the blight druid.

Some characters are made just for people to have the option to be the bad guys or outsiders.

Witches that smell kids, etc. And that's fine. People should have that option. To play the Villains, or play the unusal. It's good to have a stretch. Change it up.

Personally I think it's not just as easy as "just make your save." Can you imagine being beside someone that makes you gag? Save or not, that's some powerful smell. Brutal.
