one day, I'd like to see you explain what weapons you feel the fbi, cia, and even beat cops own while also eexplaining how you would feel if someone broke into youe house and stole your guns.

Bitter Thorn wrote:

seriously bt? Using a Fox news story as a response to "bigots" regarding guns? Chummer, you gotta be kidding me...

One, iirc, the original story/study was talking about stockpiling weapons with respect to hoarding ammunition, not.carrying a gun to protect yourself or even collecting guns as s hobby. Which was a fair point. If you're scared of those godless (insert slur of your choice here!) and genuinely think they are taking over some virgin neighborhood or something, then yeah, you're going to focus on ammo over guns as it were. But just owning a gun, even a few guns, isn't enough. It's an ugly correlation and it isn't one to one as it were, forget about causation.

never said they were, but they deserve bad press and dimgs when their more interested in making other agencies look bad than in helping people or money goes into places other than the charity.

the article showed malfeasance(hope I'm using the right word!) on the part of the company, not Obama. Would that more people checked their plan and took umbrage with individual companies as opposed to blaming the president for everything.

article doesn't mention obama and provides a poor timeline. This isn't the first time this was reported, I remember hearing similar stories in 04.

I don't particularly care about his altruism or his motivations. Unless they cast serious doubt on his revelations, which judging by the lack of denials and by the grudging admissions from the government, I can't see that they do.

Why should his altruism or lack of it matter?

It often seems part of an effort to turn attention to him personally and away from what he's revealed.

Certainly not the enemy, but also not a solution on their own.

Much of the low level charitable giving is essentially waste. Or at least inefficient. People often want to give stuff, but stuff is usually far less useful and harder to get to where it's needed than money is. A good chunk of money donated after the Newtown shootings is being devoted to housing all the things people donated.
If you donate food or clothes for the Philippines disaster, it'll be weeks and much manpower and effort before it gets there. Cash can fund the relief agencies operations today and purchase things closer to the need.

And a lot of charity isn't directed very usefully. It tends to hit things that make a big media splash and ignore more long term problems.
