So I am still confused about Level 12 and the Retirement Scenarios.

I know the purpose for the rule on page 27 of the guide is to stop players from finishing the retirement arc at Level 14.

Here is my dilemma...

Though Unlikely there is a chance that I will get to play Part II of the GenCon Special if I am one of the Random picked GMs. I would like to play my Character that will be reaching Level 12 at GenCon.

If at Level 12 I start going on The Slow Track would I be able to play the special (If picked) and then play the Retirement Arc? That would leave me with 36 exp (13th level) by the end of the retirement Arc.

I am in the same boat. I believe the distinction is that you cannot be level 14 while playing Eyes of the Ten, but that doesn't stop one from reaching level 14 upon finishing part 4.

Because we don't want people hitting 14th level during eyes of ten. I will figure out a better way to word it for a future guide.

Emphasis mine.

As long as at no time during the Eyes of Ten, you are playing at 14th level, you are golden.

As long as you choose slow track as soon as you hit level 12, you should be good to go.
