One of the neatest things I had a player suggest is a variant of an immovable rod. It actually is a small rod about 8 inches long and an inch or so in diameter that upon one command changes into a "traveling towel rack" and upon another stand perfectly upright at the height it is set at. It was a request by a paladin who was extremely fastidious and lived by the "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" motto, especially when "doing the God's dirty work."
Eseentially, at any opportunity in the field, head whip this out, set it up, drape his towel over it, undress, wash his clothes, drape them over it, wash himself, dress in new clothes and leave the luandered ones to dry on the rack. Someone could steal the clothes, but not the rack. The commands were required to move and then 'close' the item.
I forget what he called it, but he had been definitely didn't want the derned thing to magically clean his clothes. He'd actually perform prayers while doing luandry. Yeah, my dad was a weird one.

I just had the idea for perhaps the greatest item in the history of the game.
Pit of Infinite Happiness
Aura faint universal; CL 1st
Slot -; Price 200 gp; Weight varies
This pit varies in size, up to a 10x10x10 ft pit, but it contains hundreds if not thousands of brightly colored, 2 - 3 inch diameter, hollow balls made of a very light, but solid material. The balls can be easily crushed by just a few pounds of pressure, but when crushed, the pit of infinite happiness simply conjures a new one. The pit is used for entertaining children of any race, but many adults find enjoyment in the pit as well. The pit of infinite happiness is self-cleaning so no one will be catching any germs that could be lingering on the balls.

Requirements Craft Wondrous Items, prestidigitation Cost 100 gp
Seriously, I love these things, I will have one of these in my house one day, and I don't care how childish it is. Now, we all know Prestidigitation has 1,001 uses, but per the description for the spell, only 8 are listed. Now, a Constant Effect 0-level spell is 1,000 gp (1/2 * 1 * 2,000) but since you're only getting a quarter of the listed uses (conjuring small items and cleaning) I figure a similar price deduction should be allowed.
Prestidigitation: (1/2 * 1 * 2,000) / 4 = 200 gp
It's kind of a joke item, but when it occurred to me, I literally squee'd in delight. My Wizard in Kingmaker will be making this item at the next available opportunity....
