So my friends and I are starting a new campaign soon, and I have a pretty solid idea of what I want to play. Unfortunately, there isn't really a class that fits it.
I really like the Ki Pool mechanic and high mobility of the Ninja or Monk, but I want to chop things with a greatsword, not punch things or stab them in the kidneys. Ive looked at several different options, but nothing really seemed to click.
SO, I figured I would just tweak the monk a bit, and run it by you guys to see if I'm over/under valuing anything.
Zen Warrior
Start with the Weapon Adept Monk:
Drop flurry of blows, monk unarmed strike progression, and Ki strike abilities (magic, lawful, adamantine)
Swap weapon proficiencies to all simple and martial (or maybe just all simple and a martial of your choosing).
Gain a full BAB progression and d10 hit die.
Then a bunch of small wording changes so that everything still works as you would expect, and probably tweaking the bonus feat list a bit.
I'm also thinking of dropping the Monk AC bonus for light armor prof, but I'm not so sure about that, both for balance and thematic reasons.

Well, if you go full BAB and take TWF you're flurrying anyway. I don't think the HD is a problem either.
You're replacing the ability to have more chances to hit and make things easier to damage with a full attack with one that makes it easier to hit all the time (kinda). No big deal.
You may want to add something that allows him to qualify for fighter feats, maybe.
