Hi there, is this the right forum to mention meta-issues regarding the play by post forum, and how it is structured, and how people tend to write their ads and stuff? I have some things I want to talk about in this topic, and I was wondering if this is the best forum for it. Could I put the same post in all the forums that seemed relevant? Thanks!

The website feedback forum is slightly more oriented toward "this part of the site is broken" but it's fine for etiquette type questions too. I think a thread like you're describing could also go in the play-by-post discussion forum, too. We'd prefer if you don't post the same thread in more than forum. We'll also move a thread if we think it belongs somewhere else so don't worry about it too much.

Yeah... I once tried to start a thread about PbPs in general in the PbP discussion forum, and it got moved to a forum of more general interest and (predictably) immediately died. I think that I made it to address someone's question about how to be more successful at applying to PbP games, but I don't remember for sure, and even I can't find it any more.
ETA: I finally found them using the search function on my posts. (Turns out that there were two.) They got moved to Gamer Talk, apparently. How, exactly, were these two threads inappropriate for the PbP Discussion forum? I seriously want to know, because that was all the way back in November, and I *still* resent it eight months later.

Yeah... I once tried to start a thread about PbPs in general in the PbP discussion forum, and it got moved to a forum of more general interest and (predictably) immediately died. The Play-by-Post Discussion forum has a pretty specific remit: "This is the place for out-of-game commentary on campaigns in the Play-by-Post forum."
We do not have a specific place to talk about PbP in general, because it's not currently that common a discussion topic, and so the Gamer Talk forum is generally where nonspecific discussion like that ends up. (Its remit: "Non-game-specific talk about games and gaming.")
I'm surprised that you're surprised, since you did, after all, begin your post by saying "I hope you don't mind my re-purposing this forum a little;" that's very close to just saying "moderators, please move this thread."

There Is Some Precedence though, for a place that talks about PbP generally.
I guess its just that threads kind of long and all over the place by now. The problem with such threads being in Gamer Connection is that it doesn't really reach its intended audience- the PbP sub-community, especially as Gamer Talk doesn't fall into the 'Online Campaigns' section of the recent posts sidebar. I spend almost all of my time on Paizo in the PbP areas and I think I might even have the Gamer Talk forum collapsed.
Honestly, PbP is never as easy as people think it will be and is usually a lot more time consuming. I'm not the only DM on these forums who is asked for assistance with various elements fairly frequently in different discussion threads, for example Mapping, Time-Saving Techniques, Macros like Shortkeys etc., VTT's, Image Libraries... And there are always people wanting a general guide to get into it etc.- Doomed Hero wrote an excellent one that I can never find by browsing (ended up just linking it from my favourites) for example.
Heh. I think I just talked myself into wanting a PbP sub-forum for such topics. Doesn't hurt to ask but I understand the reluctance to add more forums :). I would totally try and fill it up with useful threads!

I like you, and so I will simply say that I say what I mean and mean what I say. I was hoping that you wouldn't mind, since there's no other forum that would reach the target audience for those threads. I've stated my position and you've stated yours; there's nothing much more to say. My threads fell through the cracks between the remits, whatever, I'll get over it.
ETA: And thank you for your thoughtful response. Even if I don't like it, it's still better than being ignored or dismissed. ;)
