The idea is a simple one:
Free goblin plushy toy with every collectors edition.
People have been wanting to get their hands on a plush goblin since Rise of the Runelords. So what better extra from a "Goblinworks" game, then a plush goblin of their very own. But thats my opinion what do you guys think.

Goblinworks dice set, plushy toy and a cloth map of the River Kingdoms - I'm there.
Yeah. I say give is an old weathered looking map of the Inner Sea Region we can hang on our walls. I totally wouldn't mind a big old map next to my desk and my bird on my shoulder when I'm out sailing the high seas.

While the idea of plushies, dice etc... sounds nice. If I recall from the esrb rating discussion thread. Goblinworks has little to no interest in a physical copy of the game to go into stores. Which kind of throws a wrench into the idea of a physical collectors edition.
Now they could throw in a bonus kit of some sort to sell, but an official "collectors edition" of a game that is intended to be distributed via downloads seems kind of an odd concept to shoot for. Perhaps a collectors kit with a plushie, the thornkeep book, plus bonus skymetal bits card or something could be offered at the time of the games launch or something.

Tera launched with a digital collectors edition featuring a unique mount, unique 'skins' and 2 pieces of jewelery to use at low and mid level. Not personally something I went for but there is definitely potential for an online collectors edition.
It's difficult to grant people digital rewards as these are generally things which the worldwide web have a hazard of sharing anyways: PDFs, soundtracks, videos etc.
Granted the game is not meant for largescale release in physical form, it is not a long shot to have a small number of collectors edition boxes to be produced for the die-hards. Darkfall, Mortal and other sandbox games which were primarily distributed digitally still had the $$$ to produce limited edition collectors copies.

Admittedly, as long as an exclusive in-game pet, or better yet, pet and a promise of a new pet every year the account is active, is offered...my wife will buy one for herself.

Good point. Actually if they had a store where you could buy T-shirts, maps, goblin plushies etc. that may work out better in the end.
I really hope they have something like that anyway so we can buy authentication keys. (The little USB sized ones like they have for Blizzard games and The Old Republic.)

I know I would love to see merch like this.

I'd buy a physical collectors edition if it had something like dice with it, but that would kind of limit the collectors edition to players of actual table top games and I'm pretty certain the majority of MMORPG players have never been anywhere near a tabletop game.
Well assuming they actually did it smartly and didn't make the dice the only item, that could go very much in favor of paizo's side. If they could make say an ultra simplified beginners box, they could majorly introduce more people to P&P at the same time.

What sells it for me is it worth the money to spend for what's inside. I was going to buy the C.E. for Guild Wars but when I looked at what was inside there wasn't anything that really grabbed my attention. I mean the statue was nice, but that wasn't enough to make me think it was worthy.
Lunar the silver star story game for Playstation had the best insert with it's medallion which made it worth it for me among the bonus music, leatherette hardbound book with artwork and a full-color cloth map. LoTR did it right with their collectors edition including the ring on a necklace.
Some of the options I'd think would be cool to have in it, (not all but just examples)
Exclusive Dice (Crystal Caste) and a small players handbook that has some of the rules that a player would need.
Necklace or even a Patch with the Goblinworks logo.
Cloth Map
Plastic Figures (one each of the basic classes both male and female to use with the PnP game)
Metal figure of a main character
Metal replicas of Platinum, gold, silver or copper coins.
Just a few of possibilities.

The only map I ever needed to use in an mmo was the world map of Britania for Ultima Online 14 years ago.
My father still has mine sitting next to his computer, the one i used when first starting to play UO, I even jammed the UO pin into his computer desk and it's still there (:

I just want to say here that including replica coins is one of the few options that would actually obligate me to get a hypothetical CE.
Maps are another.
what can I say? I'm a sucker for feelies.
You can sit and play the game while also playing with the coins just to hear them cling together.

I'm generally in favor of exclusively digital downloads, due to the environmental benefits. That, and I'm a BIG sucker for exclusive in-game goodies...
That said, the fact that GW is sending out so many material shinies for Kickstarter backers leads me to believe that a physical Collectors' Edition is well within the realm of possibility.
Whether or not I would personally buy it depends entirely on how useful the collectors' items are. I'd much rather have an awesome-looking set of dice than a giant plastic statue that does nothing but compete for my desk space all day (yes, Alduin, I'm looking at you).
