Anyone Running S&S with MapTool?

Skull & Shackles

Is there anyone out there that is using MapTool to play S&S with an online group? How easy is it to transfer to PDF maps into MapTool, or is that not possible?

It is possible. Here's the short, short story:

1) Export the images from the pdf using your image export tool of choice (many ways to do this; see this to get started
2) Go onto maptools, add the folder where you extracted the images in step 1 above as a library resource
3) create a map
4) ...
5) profit!

Thank you very much. I was thinking of doing an online game and MapTool came up quite frequently. I'll check out the link for the image editor.

Its actually quite simple. I ran Burnt Offerings over maptool quite well. You can easily use a pdf as the background image (from memory on the "new map" screen just press "map" and then "file system" to browse for your image). With a bit more work you can add walls, light sources and give the players a good idea of their line of sight. However this was a little fiddly, and I eventually stopped bothering at the grumbles of my group. (Perhaps yours will be more keen on it. It lets you play with stealth and the light rules a whole lot more.)

Silver Crusade

Finished the Curse of the Crimson Throne campaign on MapTools and Skype and am in the third session of Skull and Shackles on MapTools.

I gotta say, I love it. It's awesome to use the actual maps instead of crude hand-drawn schematics on graph paper, I can play weekly instead of six times a year, the players can remember the NPCs much better by seeing their pictures whenever they want (putting a face to the name), and I've got players from all over the country.

I use Photoshop or Gimp to remove the backgrounds.
