I love the Battles mini's but must admit that I dislike the fact that you must buy a case to be able to purchase the "extra". For the Monsters and Heroes it was not too bad since it was a "normal" set but it did irk me that to get a Dragon I needed to buy a case (way out of my budget range) or get it from a secondary market.
The RotR set this is compounded as I plan on running it but can only get the much needed Rune Giant by again buying a case or going to a secondary martket.
I was planning on buying singles and a few boxes as I cound afford them or need them while running the AP (I have many figs I need for it from buying Reaper ones over the years) for RotR so I don't need to purchase them all.
It just seems odd that Paizo/Wiz kids would make a needed mini for the AP an exclusive; I could see an exclusive for case buyers with a different unique paint but to make it a "needed" mini and so restricted seems to make us poorer games outcasts.
Just my 2 cents.

My advice to you is to do what I did when there were no Gargantuan giants
Go buy yourself some Conan/Spawn figures from mcfarlane toys they have similiar sized figures 8" for about $11.00.
if you need dragons look at the MCfarlane's dragon series they have some really nice scultps.
As for bases go to your nearest Michaels's or other craft store to buy round or square wood bases.
Yes redoing one will take you about an hour but its worth the savings. You can even spray paint some black to get the runegiant skin effect.

I may have lucked out...but I purchased the Black Dragon from my retailer for $14.95. He had a half dozen or so that he priced & put out with the rest of the figures. Perhaps retailers received X number of dragons as an incentive for carrying the product?
The deal with the case incentives is this: for each case a retailer purchases, he can purchase one case incentive. He can then do whatever he likes with it. Some pass along the incentive to customers who buy cases; some offer them separately; some do both.
Here at Paizo, we offer them to people who preorder cases and to incentivize case subscriptions; if we have any left when we've fulfilled those purposes, we'll offer them individually. Right now, we're continuing to offer Black Dragons to new case subscribers who begin their sub with Heroes & Monsters; once we run out of H&M cases, we'll offer up any remaining Dragons; we'll do the same with Rune Giants.

Case incentives allow WizKids to make minis that likely couldn't be made any other way. If the Rune Giant weren't made as an incentive, it probably wouldn't be made at all.
Also, as mentioned above, there will likely be ways to get cases incentives without buying cases.

Perhaps Paizo/Wizkids can take a similar approach and produce a huge/gargantuan/colossal pathfinder battles line.
Its been done before with Mageknight and MArvel: Wizkids has produced Gargantuant/Colossal sized (Giant-Sized X-Men) for about about $20 retail (although I bought some for as little as $8.99)

Should WizKids ever suggest that will work for Pathfinder Battles, I'm sure we'll let them. Remember this is still early days for the line, and we're trying a lot of things to see what works best.

Again...I guess I'm lucky to have a retailer that puts the incentive figures out at a reasonable price. Regardless with these types of figures I've always found that patience pays off; you can usually find what you're looking for at a reasonable price if you're diligent.
