Body proportion / body postures?

Pathfinder Online

Just wondering if the possibility of making characters (limited to some races) being slim/fat/muscular/slightly taller or shorter than the norm, and the opinions to choose different postures for holding weapons stance(including bare hands fighting & monk style) exist.

Alterations of body type will probably be possible. I kind of doubt postures will that customizable (if at all) simply because the amount of work it would take to program, animate and then test those postures would be too much.

Still, I'm generally in favor of more customization when it comes to characters/avatars.

They could go the way of some MMOs and have stance styles such as agressive, joker, humble etc. at character generation.

I wouldn't mind seeing more realistic body types for males and females rather then the usual super hero style a lot of MMOs use.

The old 3 slider system of Phantasy Star online created a broad variety of body-types without causing massive amounts of coding issue, and the Skyrim Facial System is, of course, epic.

In a super long term character development game, nothing can be set, aside from body type(race, height), at character generation.

any stances should be /commands

I believe by "stances" he is referring to something they have done in other games, like DCUO in which it is called a "personality", where they player chooses their character's style. This "stance" doesn't just affect how they stand when idle, but the animation for how they walk, run, dance, jump, etc.

I could be wrong, maybe he meant something else, but that's what the idea reminded me of.

Yup, that is what I meant by stance. There are some baseball games that players can customize characters with different stances holding bat/pitching, therefore I wonder if similar customization could be done.

Yes

Best character customizing systems I've ever seen are Warhammer Online,Rift, and Saints Row 2.Took me hours to go through the options,I was so happy.

Second best would be Dragon Age and Skyrim.

Do you guys know All Points Bulletin? It's an MMO that failed hard because of various reasons. They did have one good thin though: character customisation to the max! I'm currently online with my cellphone so I can't link to a video. But look into it, it's awesome!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Customization is great. Both at character creation, and with gear later on.

Honestly I didn't think Dragon Age and Skyrim was all that well. In my opinion Aion had the best custumization options. Thier only problem is the should had put some limit on the body purportions.

I would have to agree with Dawn on this one, I would gladly sacrifice some initial customization of my character for a little ability to customize gear. Just a thought when trying to prioritize development...

I agree with customizing gear also. It should be dyeable, and you should be able to put emblems, company's, god's, or settlement's, on them. Also when you craft them, have an option of 2 or 3 skins to choose from.

The Veil of Sivanah on the back of my cloak would be very cool.

I would also love to see Chartered Company flags displayed on Watch Towers, Forts and settlements!

Combined with the above statement about All Points Bulletin, while I never played the game myself, my roommate tried it out and I watched him in the customization screen for a solid hour. Apparently, you could craft clothing for characters to wear (which cost in-game cash to make) and you could wear or sell your clothing to other players. If you had a good eye for design, you could make a lot of money.

I would like to see this element brought into PFO, rewarding people with creative ability and design sense.

It'd be nice to be especially fat or thin. Fat mages are fun!
Hm.

Yes fat mages with pointy hats!
