I apologise for my ignorance, but what did the ring of flashing red icons mean, Bluddwolf?
Oh sorry, it was a pirate gate camp, about 10 ships in all. I didn't stand a chance in my unarmed industrial ship.
Ships on the overview map appear as icons and they flash red when they are locking onto your ship. It was my first introduction to pvp in an MMO.

I didn't experience this first hand but heard about it. In EQ1 the wood elves started life in a tree city high above the ground with narrow walkways between parts of the city - lag could be lethal. One day some high level players organised a race for the newbie woodies but first they had to drink to the point of getting drunk (in game). As drunk characters weave erratically most to the racers didn't fare too well trying to get to the other side of their town. Apparently there were woodies raining down all over he forest floor. The nekkid gnome races in WoW are not dissimilar.

As an event planner back in UO, Catskills shard, there are too many good memories to recall, from player run markets to archery contests, holiday festivities to helping organize the defense of Yew during several player and GM-made invasions, catering weddings to RPing a villain who was the focus of a shard-wide manhunt.
The one that jumps most to mind is when the GMs had created a plot involving a spreading plague. Friends of mine in Kinship (a player made town) were active in the story-line and I decided to organize a medical aid caravan to send them bandages, healing potion kegs and similar supplies. As I recall, twenty-some characters turned out to participate, including a dashing collection of mounted, heavily armored knights (a German guild playing on Catskills at the time). On our way to Kinship, the GMs running the story-line must have heard of our intentions. Half way to our destination, we found ourselves attacked by NPC brigands that did not normally spawn along that particular stretch of road. Our escort players dispatched them handily. We finally arrived at Kinship, donated our supplies, and partook of the next leg of the story that occurred that evening. A nice blend of player-made and GM provided entertainment.
