Play-by-Post Discussion

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

Welcome.
Now let's decide what to play;char creation rules shouldn't change from my last post in the recruitment thread.

When i tried my campaign world with 3.5 there weren't all the variant classes of PF....that edition seemed to rely more on prestige classes than core ones.
Usually the starting nation was an equivalent of real world Germany/Britain in the late middle age (1100-1300) of course with the usual fantasy elements. In that setting all the Player's Handbook classes were acceptable (except monk...even if i had to give up after days of rants from one player and allowed him to play one) but the most common and logical were cleric, rogue, fighter, cavalier and ranger (but we'll discuss on a case by case basis).

Barbarians and druid will be much more common in the northern regions, while monks, ninjas and samurais will be reserved for the extreme east part of my campaign.

Need to find my old notes,so will tell more later if needed by.

My vote is still for an AP set in Golarion. The reason for this is that there's already a lot of information available online about Golarion, helping us, the players, to get immersed in the world.

Thinking of Verisim (and others new to PF), it's confusing enough to create a character, let alone learn one world and then, in the next game they play, having to learn another.

Just my opinion, of course. :)

I'm good either way. I love and have been waiting forever for Carrion Crown, but I also understand if the DM wants to do their own world, too. It's less work on their part, and less that they need to prep and keep in mind.

So, like I said, either way. I'm also willing to help out if you need it. I have the entire AP, but have not read it enough to know the serets and twists.

The Player's Guide is also free, HERE.

I'll have a character up. I was also talking to Verisim. They are very new to the game, and maybe table top RPG in general, so we are sort of going through things (via PM). I sounds like they are wanting to play a sneaky character, (Rogue, Bard, or Ranger) with a little bit of magic.

I'm looking at either Cleric (more likely) or Paladin.

I like to play fairly well rounded characters, and am probably looking at moderate everything with high Wis and Cha, and some decent social skills.

Morning.Am waiting to know what i have to prepare.
Can see MacFetus' point,no problem, i like CC too.

Beckett has been a huge help. I am interested in playing a Roguish type, but remain highly flexable. Been reading and re-reading the rules and such.

CC it is then :)

Oh yeah, I'm debating between a full wizard or either a gishish character (feral mutagen focused alchemist or maybe a magus)

As you're new to the game, Verisim, I'd push you towards the ranger (from the 3 classes that Beckett listed, above). Enough skill points to satisfy the sneaky part of your build but enough combat ability that you're not constantly having to think about what to do. A rogue needs a lot of creativity to play well and a bard is probably the hardest of the core classes to play.

If we go with Carrion Crown, an Urban Ranger with Favoured Enemy: Undead would be a solid choice.

As for me, I'm happy to create someone to fill whatever role we're missing.

OK for CC then? This evening i'll post complete char creation rules

I really like the look of the Inquisitor. Beckett and I spoke about it and he relayed to me that it might not be the greatest option. Whats your guys' take on the Inquisitor?

Perhaps you should converse in this thread so we might know what is said.

(Hey, it rhymes!! And, to think, I was planning on playing a bard!! :) )

What's Beckett's objection to Inquisitor? Like ranger, it's a mix of skills, combat and a few spells. Having played one, I find they're easy to get to grips with, not to mention that s/he should be easy to incorporate into the campaign.

I take that back, I am not understanding a lot of the terms used in the Advanced Players Guide. Perhaps it will just be better for me to stick to the basics for now.

Evening.
As for char creation rules:
Level 1
max starting HP
max starting gold (you can buy scrolls/potions of course level 0/1 spells only)
25 points buy (no stat below 6 or above 18 AFTER race modifiers)
no evil alignments
two traits, your pick, one must be from the CC player guide, traits must be from different categories too (no both combat or social etc. etc.)

I would have liked to use fast XP tracking, but the AP's usually are built with the medium progression in mind.It can be quite slow leveling up in PbP with the medium speed.I'll probably give more xp reward if i think the level progression is too slow.

edit:I lack Rules of Fear, but i hope the AP's books and the Inner Sea World Guide (which i have) will have all the necessary info on Nidal. Will start to read, no, to study them.

Hey Gandal, I was wondering if I could use a character that I had conceived for another campaign. If the backstory is fine I'll adjust his level, stats, gold, etc... for the character creation rules that you laid out.

To tell the truth i don't like classes from the APG (except maybe the cavalier) but the only class i would ban on mere principle is the Gunslinger.
Just write a background which leads to the chars already traveling and working together, will save time at the beginning of the game.

Ok Sounds good. I'll whip up stats and a modified background tomorrow.

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

Of course the same applies to the other chars, you already know each other and have been adventuring together for some time when the game begins.

We where mostly talking about what he/she might like to play based off of the types of things they would like to do.

The reason I suggested against Inquisitor is because it becomes a complicated class after a few levels, and he is completely new to the game. Otherwise it should be ok.

I have Rule of Fear if you need me to post any info. There are no mechanics in the book, it is pure fluff material, though it does talk a lot about Ustalav and a lot of things that happen in the AP (fairly common-knowledge stuff, just a little more indepth).

Any chance you might allow an Assimar? Just thought I would ask. :)

Also, if I go Cleric, do you require a deity, or can I make up a faith (including background and suggestions for Domains/Favored Weapon, etc. . .)

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

Yes, Aasimar and Tiefling can be played, but don't ask other races from any bestiary please (No drow either)

Just noticed, i wrote Nidal in my last post, i meant Ustalav.Anyway i admit i still have to read many books, i bought them so that i have them, then i read the necessary info when i need to :)

In your common background one,or some or all of you must have some connection/friendship with professor Petros Lorrimor.

@Beckett:use one of Golarion already set deities please, easier that way.
I already have enough work to do.
