Bruce Lee, "He was describing the feeling of being totally present in your body and connected to your own life force" Possibly the inspiration for Ki. Note that Lee explicitly separates this from anger.

Appears to be connected to the Traveller RPG.

Let's just go with the person who wrote and first sang the song: Merle Travis. Nothing like giving credit to the actual author.

Noticed Knights of Lastwall also has one of these:

"I summon you to fulfill your oath."

I think all of lost omen books after certain point might have these? World guide, character guide and gods and magic is missing this.

Absalom has

"Lord Synarr is not who he says he is!"

(well duh not!Razmir)

Ancestry guide has

"It’s not who you are underneath, it’s what you do that defines you."

(I like that quote)

Legends has

"Heroes get remembered, but legends never die!"

Monster of Myth:

"Monsters are the patron saints of our blissful imperfections."

Pathfinder Society Guide:

"Where in the world is Durvin Gest?"

(lol Carmen Sandiego)

Grand Bazaar:

"Runelords hate him! This one weird item makes Adventure Paths easy!"

(that sums up some of my 1e ap gming experiences)

Mwangi Expanse:

"The Magic Warriors will return!"

(is that an avengers reference or foreshadowing?)

Travel Guide:

"Inner Sea: 2 Stars; Too many wizards for my liking. Take a trip to Tian Xia instead!"

... given the comments from the devs and the Elemental Planes of Metal and Wood, I lean towards foreshadowing.

Yeah and with all Dark Archive's focus on Tian Xia's locations(and Fist of Ruby Phoenix hardcover), it seems there is good reason to be hopeful :D

This was probably a reference to (or foreshadowing of) Strength of Thousands since the Mwangi book came out before that AP

Spoiler:
and the PCs are named the new Magic Warriors by the end.
Though it could be something more.

Many movies have used this in their end credits, but I believe the first was "James Bond will return!" First done in Goldfinger, 1964

This does raise the question: what do the folk of other continents think of when they hear "Avistan?"

Dark Archive

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Well Qadirans are paranoid that Avistani(mostly Taldor) will attack the country while Kelesh is like "silly satrapy"

Besides that not sure. Though inner sea region isn't technically just Avistan either way(not sure if Absalom is technically part of either Avistan or Garund? Confusing to me at least x'D)

I would say white people with delusions of grandeur who say they are descended from the oldest and grandest empire on Golarion, that they are destined for greatness and that they have the divine / hellish mandate to rule over other countries.

Also a big mess of various countries with really different customs and styles and little homogeneity.

From the Travel Guide:

Quote:
Avistan, at least according to our Garundi neighbors, is a land full of wars, feuding nations, and ancient magical empires, and in desperate need of assistance.

Perhaps we should not visit the biases and prejudices of modern Western Terran society on a completely different planet.

TRB was obviously being a little inflammatory, but the comment has merit - Taldor's entire history is one of imperial, colonial conquest, something both Andoran and Cheliax both inherited a taste for, with efforts in Arcadia, Garund, and Tian Xia.

I'd say that points to a flaw in Taldan cultural thinking, rather than a reflection of Avistan as a whole; the Kellids and Shoanti are just as Avistani as they are, and they aren't off building empires on anybody else's homelands. Sadly, that kind of nuance isn't too likely to reach as far as Goka or Segada, much in the same way that the folk of the Inner Sea speak broadly about "Arcadians" and "Tians."

I do think it should be noted that Avistan, Tian xia, Casmaron, Arcadia and Azlant ALL had an imperialist empire there, Garund is currently only one we don't know for sure had large empire conquering most of continent if I don't forget anything?

So its possible that its Avistani stereotype, but just as likely that only countries directly involved in it(such as Qadira) believe that stereotype.

Well that's ironic, considering Qadira's parent empire & its own expansions into northern Garund, historically...

Modern Keleshite empire sees itself as peaceful and enlightened nowadays, despite all the imperial conquest and assimilation of population in the past. Osirion was actually conquered by Qadira and not Kelesh, that was unsanctioned move by empire itself. Qadira sees itself as a frontier nation near threats wanting to conquer them.

(lost omen legends article on Satrap Xerbystes II also demonstrates that. Empire has forbidden Xerbystes from invading Taldor and has told him instead to further diplomatic relationship with Taldor's new ruler, but Xerbystes believes that Qadira is surrounded by existential threat that could be solved definitely if empire allowed Qadira to invade Taldor.)

But that is off topic, so I'll be posting this in Casmaron tread, read it here

Indeed. But AFAIK Avistan has not been conquered, or even targeted, by an empire from another continent since Azlant/Thassilon.

Whereas Garund, Arcadia, Tian Xia have seen would be Avistani colonists.

Agreed completely.

Aroden, Taldor and Cheliax are not western Terran society though.

Qadira has invaded multiple times, no?

And we know Garund has Chauxen and Tirakawhan, two colonies from powers in Casmaron - three, if we count Jalmeray. I concede that none of the three canonically have the same blood on their hands as Sargavan (in that we know almost nothing about the first two and that third seems to mainly oppress planar beings, not their fellow mortals), but it's not nothing.

The Jistka Imperium controlled part of southwestern Avistan and Qadira took over part of southern Taldor during their war. Also if I recall correctly, Iobaria had settlements in modern Brevoy and Mendev. So maybe not conquered as much as others, but there's been some stuff.

Associated with the execution of Louis Antoine, Duke of Enghien in 1804, France. The actual person who said it is disputed.

It's from ReBoot. Enzo would say it all the time when he was young (so at least the first two seasons, possibly three) whenever he was excited about something.
