I was thinking of going Diabolist for my Oracle. Although, it looks like that only increases spells per day. It's on page 44 of Book of the Damned, Vol. 1: Princes of Darkness.
Spells per Day: At the indicated levels, a [P Class] gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a divine spellcasting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. He does not, however, gain other benefits a character of that class would have gained, except for additional spells per day, spells known (if he is a spontaneous caster), and an increased effective level of spellcasting. If he had more than one divine spellcasting class before becoming a [P Class], he must decide to which class he adds the new level for the purpose of determining spells per day.
All the prestige classes read the same for this class feature, so the answer is yes you get the cure spells sense it is a "Spell Known" gained threw class spell advancement.
What's being run on Friday?
as soon as I have an answer I'll change the Warhorn to reflect it.

T minus 4 days and counting....
Blood Under Absalom will be this coming Saturday, December 15th. Hard start for the game is at 4PM. Get here at 3PM if you need any character work. There will be a PARTY going on as well! Feel free to bring festive gear, and save room for cake! The BUA t-shirts will be available, so make sure you bring check/cash for Thorynn or you will not be decked out in blood red for the bloodiest of scenarios...
"What do I need to bring?" might you ask. And am I glad you asked that question! I will answer that question by suggesting what you should NOT bring: lots of stuff. There will be over 30 people (probably closer to 40) crammed into our upstairs space. Please don't bring all of your books/miniatures/bookbags/jackets/portable refrigerators into the gaming space. We'll make certain that you can leave stuff downstairs at the WT, but due to simple physics, it's going to be impossible for everyone to have their gaming libraries on hand during the game. Thanks for your consideration. Bring your pencil, gaming sheet, dice, and joie de vivre. And if your joie de vivre takes up a lot of space, check it at the door!
The Shadow Lodge will be gaming this coming Friday at the WT. Keep a look-see at the Warhorn page in order to sign-up! And while you're there, consider signing up a friend for BUA!!!
That is all for now, my silly sihedrons.

And also as a footnote to the boss man's prep list of do's and don't of things to bring. Because of the 1st law of Thermodynamics... Look it up ;) please bring a personal defunking device i.e. deodorant... Because with 30-40+ people in the upstairs of our FLGS it is sure to get funky even with windows open in December.
Love ya (even when ya'll is funky)
Luth out....
And I will spray you down with Axe body spray like it's mace if I have too. ;)
Questioncontent |
Question, is "force" magic considered an energy type within society rules? Every time I try to look it up all I get are theoretical arguments. X.x;
Depends on the context. But yes it is usually considered another energy type like acid, fire, or sonic. An example would be the attunement ability of the Bladebound Magus, since one of the listings is for force damage.
StrangePackage |
Force is a spell descriptor, and a damage type, but not an energy type, so far as I know.
The spell Resist Energy and Protection from Energy specifically lists cold, fire, electricity, acid, and sonic. Not force.
Positive and Negative Energy also aren't energy types in the traditional sense.
Force bypasses DR and affect incorporeal creatures, and there is no resistance to it by spell that I am aware of. Hence why the alchemist force bomb discovery does less damage (d4) than the other bombs (d6) and required a higher level to utilize.

Come on people, let's get people playing their level 4 or 5 characters in Shades of Ice part 2 on Friday. I have an oracle that will be able to greatly increase his channeling ability for Blood Under Absalom after playing the 4-5 subtier on Friday. He will be about 850 gold away from greatly increased channeling going into Shades of Ice part 2. He needs a Phylactery of Positive Channeling out of Ultimate Equipment on page 252.

Just as a reminder to all GM-folks....Pathfinder Society games require a minimum of 3 players at a table PLUS an NPC run by the GM. If you have 4 players, no GM NPC is required.
A table cannot be declared valid with 3 players and no GM NPC.
And, on the flip side, absolute maximum PCs allowable at a table at any given scenario is 7.
No go out there and roll some dice! You crazy bunyips....
Oooh! Did you hear? BLOOD UNDER ABSALOM IN JUST TWO DAYS!!!!
(incoherent screaming and hooting)
Also, I will be going to see The Hobbit tonite at midnite. Yay, me!
That is all,
Paul (Dink)

I've played a number of home-based PFS sessions, but I haven't played at Wyvern's Tale yet. Can y'all answer a few dumb newbie questions?
- Is there a charge for people to play at the store?
- How does food and drink work? (I won't survive 'til midnight without caffeine and munchies)
- Can I bring my dog to bite the GM if he crits my PC? (just kidding - he doesn't like the taste of most GMs)

Chris Ballard wrote:If a GM runs an NPC, does that have to be listed on the scenario sign up?I would think not ... aside from a note that the 4th PC slot was filled by an NPC.
Correct!
Can I play my level 2 Druid at the big game on Saturday? Didn't see it on Warhorn
Yes yes yes! We were wondering what you were going to play!!! Luthril will get you the hook-up.

We would LOVE to have you, Pat. We would LOVE to have your charges as well, if you can get them to come as well. I'll speak more about it when I see y'all tonite!
Y'all will note that I'm consolidating my posts. Why???? Because we're nearing Magical Post #3000, which, if you'll remember, will result in someone winning VERY BIG SUPER EXTRA SPECIAL NICE NICE PRIZE.
So post. And YAY if I win.

The t-shirts are in hand, and they are awesome. I'll be showing up early on saturday (2ish) to help setup and take your money for your shirts. Also, since those fortunate few who pre-ordered will be looking so awesome, I'll be taking orders both before and after for a 2nd run of the blood under shirts. This will be your last opportunity to get one, if you didn't get in on the original order. S-XL are $10 XXL-5XL are $11.
Be sure and bring money, or buy me a map that I don't have. Either is legal tender for shirts!
SO looking forward to this, pathfinders. I hope this is the beginning of an awesome December tradition for the APL!

Its going to be the coolest/craziest/hectic-est/awesome-est event so far. For those of you unfamiliar, all tables will be playing the same scenario at the same time, for different tiers. Bring your A-game, as when we played it at SCARAB it was at an absolutely frenetic pace. Know your character, plan your turn during everyone else's, and ROLL HIGH!

I'll put the TL:DR at the top here.
Any advice on multi-classing? General "don't do this" or "avoid this" type of advice? Or is it best to stick with the hedonistic approach - if it feels good I'm on the right track?
My inner geek is overflowing so I just thought I'd share (and bump the thread count!) my recent discovery of (what I believe to be) awesome...
Many of you know Alcons the Thuvian throat singing bard. He will level to 5 on Saturday and I'll need a new character for when there is no game available for him. I built a dwarven Zen Archer, a female human Witch (based on the Terry Pratchett series Wee Free Men), and have been trying to figure out what to do with my nagaji boon (currently a barbarian) and wayang boon (a summoner, then a ninja, then a fighter, then...) from GenCon.
And then I made a wayang arcane duelist shadow puppet oracle of lore!. And my brain exploded. Then I made a nagaji archaeologist. Then I realized... I might be that guy. That guy that only plays bards. I might have wasted those GM credits I put on my witch... Really? Now I want to make a songhealer... Someone send help!

Generally, you don't want to multi-class with casters. Getting higher-level spells is the biggest thing that makes them more powerful, and you don't want to slow that down.
For your situation, since you've got a total support character already, I'd recommend switching to a face-smashing character for your next one, just for the variety. Either a martial character like a barbarian, or a blaster caster like an oracle of flames.

As a guy who recently played a Ranger4/Rogue4, pure classing is usually the way to go, unless you take a dip in another class for a particular feat/feature that makes your character unique. Otherwise you'll find yourself underpowered in some very dangerous encounters later on.
Yes but on the flip side i have a Barbarian/fighter/oracle/ranger, it is my absolute favorite PC (as far as under powered goes it depends on the classed you multi-class with) and he is not underpowered at all.
enaudible |
Thanks for the advice! I still may make my Nagaji into a Invulnerable Rager barbarian with a death wish.
The Arcane Duelist/Shadow Puppeteer is an unusual case where the archetypes combine without canceling each other out. The level of oracle allows using your charisma modifier as a bonus to AC instead of dex and using charisma for knowledge checks. I think I'll keep this one to a one level dip. I really like the flavor combination with the 2 archetypes though - neither of which really got my interest on their own.
zylphryx |
On the multi-classing front, honestly, build what you want to build. The PC may be underpowered in the long run, but then again a traditionally underpowered PC can force one to think outside the box when it comes to encounters (remind me to tell you about fighting a ceiling walking bad guy some time). You will be reduced in your casting ability if you run with caster classes only, but it's not the end of the world.
I have honestly toyed with taking one level in every class just for the hell of it ...
