Great to see the Lodge this past Saturday. I'm DEFINITELY looking forward to update from the APLers at GenCon this past weekend.

*hint hint*

Cheers, y'all!

Scarab Sages 1/5

The Asheville Comic Expo (ACE) is soon upon us! Once again its a great opportunity to play RPGs and increase the lodge's visibility to the public. Also, if you've got a costume of your favorite superhero or LARP gear its a great time to get dressed up! (I'm looking at you, Hellboy!)

I'm working on getting a warhorn setup for the event. Run a game, get in free! I'll likely be running DCC and maybe Edge of the Empire, and I'd love to get a volunteer to run the Pathfinder beginner box for a kids table like Paul did last year. Let me know!

Warhorn site is live! Let me know what you want to run when, and let's represent the best in WNC gaming!

Silver Crusade 5/5

Games posted for the 31st... go take a look, if you're not coming to DragonCon then come to the WT to fill tables!!!

Congratulations!

On the same note, I'm up one too.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

What's going on this weekend? I hope ya'll enjoy while many of us are down in ATL!

Sovereign Court

Or Carrion Hill and a slew of scenarios! Those not going to DragonCon, c'mon down to the WT!

Dark Archive

Hey Asheville pathfinders! Steven here--been playing for a dew months now, and interested in helping GM! What do I need to do to start?

Sovereign Court

Hey Stephen. If you have not joined it yet, do join the APL facebook page, let one of the GMs (Andy, Luth or myself woud lbe pretty safe) know what scenario you would like to run and we can post it up on warhorn for the 9/14/13 session. You may want to pick a few possibles, just to be on the safe side (unless it's a season 5) to avoid picking a scenario that has gotten recent play.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

DragonCon was awesome. I played no Pathfinder, but I did hear all sorts of neat stuff from Jason Bulmahn. He threatened to kill me! It was fun.

Sovereign Court

And you posted some impressive Hellboy pics. The costume turned out great. :)

Finalizing the ACE Gaming schedule. LAST CALL FOR GMs! Run a session, get in free! Also, sign up for games at our awesome warhorn v2 site!!!

Thanks guys, see you at the in-town con!

Sovereign Court

Alright all you APL folks, we do have games listed on warhorn for this Saturday.

Sign up and let's get to some gaming!

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Alright y'all. This Saturday is the last official APL before your former VC shoves off for shores more hobbit-infested. I will be in the house gaming in the early session. Come on by and say 'Aloha', or better yet, sit and roll some dice with me once more with feeling.

And yes, this is the exact same post I put on the Facebook APL page. Recycling is big in New Zealand.

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

We are now needing another AM game for tomorrow.

Sovereign Court

And the module looks like it may get cancelled ... Again. :(

I'll prep a scenario to be on the safe side if needed.

I've played Carrion Hill before, and unfortunately, I cannot stay for an entire module, or I'd totally storm your module table.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Hullo folks, new to both Pathfinder and Asheville, but ran into you guys at ACE. I was told meetings go on Fridays and alternate Saturdays, but not when, and my work schedule is a bit prohibitive. Pretty excited to get involved, hope to get started soon!

Hello and welcome Berenices. We do list our games on warhorn (http://v1.warhorn.net/asheville-pfs/). You can sign up for games there.

But for quick glance, this Friday (and most Fridays) the games are 1230p-430p/5p and 530p-10p.

This Saturday (9/28/13) is a game weekend, so there will be games running at 1230p-430p/5p and 530p-10p.

Thank you for the welcome and the info! I'll check out warhorn right away, but I can only make the late game on Saturday. I have a character concept and would love to get it ironed out before then; do you think anyone would be able to answer questions if I showed up late on Friday (~8:30-9:00)?

Sovereign Court

Why thank you Paul. :)

@Berenices: It's quite possible you may find someone who could help you with that on Friday evening. 830-900pm would be during the games though, so it may be a waiting game for folks to finish playing unless someone is not in a game.

You can also post any questions here or over on the APL Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/AshevillePathfinderLodge/) ... folks respond pretty quickly there.

Ah, very cool, thank you again. I don't have an active facebook atm, so perhaps questions here are best.

I'm thinking of making a half-orc druid/monk, focusing on avoidance and defense with WIS and DEX as primary abilities. Was planning on going Druid from 1st to 4th levels to get Wild Shape and 2nd level spells and taking the Air domain as my Nature Bond, then multiclassing monk and just progressing in that. Skill wise, I was looking at Climb, Perception, Survival, and Swim, then switching from Survival to Acrobatics with Monk. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Sovereign Court

For PFS, don't underestimate Knowledge skills, primarily Knowledge (local) and Knowledge (planes) (really for the current season 5).

If you run with Acrobatics, keep the ranks maxed for your level. Using it to avoid attacks from movement or to move through an enemy square can be tricky at best without a decent bonus. Skill Focus (acrobatics) could also be a decent feat if you are wanting to run with the avoiding attacks when getting into preferred attack position.

There are a few other folks in the APL who have put together some really good druids and monks (though not that combo that I can recall). Hopefully they will chime in with some class specific advice (I've not played druids or monks as much as I probably should ;) ).

Excellent! I hadn't considered the knowledge skills much. You mentioned a few others got into druids and monks, do you happen to know who they are?

I had originally planned to play a mostly social character, avoiding the min-maxing that can force a choice between flair and rigid adherence to a build. However, I was speaking with a friend of mine who said that monks are the least useful class, their MADness makes ability allotment a challenge, and their damage is generally subpar compared to other melee classes. I looked it up on various forums and most 3.5e and PF players I read just dismissed the class completely. This will be my last question here, I promise! Have you ever seen a monk that was a solid contributor to combat in any way? If so, how?

Dark Archive 3/5

Maxed acrobatics is a really good thing for a monk, especially if he is more mobile in combat. I do have a low level monk that hasn't seen much action yet. If you want good damage output, consider the Brother of the Seal prestige class from the Paths of Prestige book. Those monks are eventually considered one size category larger for unarmed damage and get Awesome blow. With awesome blow, they can affect enemies larger than themselves.

Mobile monks can help take up opponents' attack of opportunity. If you go that route, consider the dodge and mobility feats.

Sovereign Court

I saw a monk take out a succubus in a single round last APL Saturday. Monks are NOT useless. Saved my Rogue PC from getting teleported up into air (which would not have been an issue as she had a ring of feather fall, but still ...).

Bottom line is once you get to level where your attacks can start overcoming various DR types, the flurry of blows can be a pretty major damage dealer.

You will want to look into the various Style feats (crane, etc.). Stu was the one with the demon killing monk.

Thank you kindly! I'll have to look into prestige classes and style feats. Hope to see you folks this weekend :)

Concerning signing up for events on warhorn: If I haven't made my character yet, but am nearly certain of what its first level class will be, would it be a good idea to register as that class at first level? Looking at Before the Dawn, Pt. 1 on Saturday 9/28.

Sovereign Court

Yep. :)

Cool beans, I guess that about covers it. See you on the weekend!

Silver Crusade 4/5

I play a rogue/monk, He is very frustrating to most GMs w/ deflect arrows and Crane wing (deflect 1 ranged and 1 melee att) my AC is pretty awesome with no armor as well. It takes a bit of patience and lots of nail biting to get thew the first few lvls then you turn into a combat god (a squishy one).

My faith in monks is returning, hope to see that character some time!

Sorry for the spam. Virginal session this evening was a great amount of fun, looking forward to playing more in the future!

Sovereign Court

Great! Welcome and we look forward to seeing you next session. :)

Silver Crusade 5/5

Hey, I'm glad to see The Elven Entanglement on there, since I'm running it the very next weekend at CharCon. However, since I'm signed up to play The Stolen Heir at CharCon, I don't have anything I can play in the evening slot. If we're looking for another game in that second slot, I'd recommend "The Secrets Stones Keep" or "The Devil We Know, Part IV". I still need to finish both those series, and I especially want to finish "The Devil We Know", because I plan on starting that for my local group, and would prefer playing it first.

Sovereign Court

I'll be posting somethingin the evening slot ... probably either a 5-9 or a 7-11 ... scenario TBD ... keep your eyes open over the next few days

I know Michael is wanting to run the full Devil We Know series (I think Cassomir's Locker is the next on he's running).

Checked the warhorn and noticed there aren't any Friday sessions scheduled until the 25th of October. Is that true or have events not been listed yet?

If Michael keeps up with it, he should get to Part IV before I do.

Dain, is that "Golemworks Incident" game that showed up yours? Because I'd be all over that if only it were in the morning slot...

That is Justin's and I'll move it to morning, I think he was down for GMing either slot

Sovereign Court

Nope, I think that was Justin's.

EDIT: Ninja'd due to check my web comic feeds before checking the thread I opened. ;)
