Human from waist up, snake from waist down. Sometimes with snaky bits on the human half, like forked tongue, etc. Basically, land-mermaids. Contrast with Nagas, which are only human on face. Also contrast with the Nagaji and Vishkanya, which have legs and a human shape, but various amounts of scaleyness.
I do not at all see them as the cat-taurs of the bestiary.
Still disapointed that they don't have a version as a playable race. Actually, I did find a version online, from before the ARG... hmmm... might have to look into this.

Actually, the Kobold Quarterly article I mentioned earlier (on my phone again or I'd link to it) HAS a playable lamia race, along with feats, a prestige class, a new domain and all kinds of other lamia-goodness!

I had a look around, and it appears that the snake-tailed lamia is a mostly a modern invention. There are instances of old drawings of a lamia as a lion-like creature.
Lion woman is what comes to mind, and wis drain via claws, which pf though runelords allowed to go through a weapon. Total ******* b***.

My first thought is the lion-centaur-woman.
There's enough snake peeps, so I never really got into the Lamia Noble.
Plus the lion-centaur thing suggests a possible relationship to the Sphinxes, which could be funky, the Lamia being a degenerate sub-breed or half-human hybrid of Sphinxes, or perhaps even the freakish result of un-picky Sphinxes mating with mundane lions?
On the other hand, if both lion and snake-Lamia exist, perhaps they are instead like Rakshasa (perhaps even related to them?), and have other possible configurations, such as the lower bodies of vultures or sharks or giant centipedes or whatever.

Well they are both sadistic and hate the divine. So if you wanted to relate the two they aren't too far off. I haven't seen either in pathfinder before myself.
There are other types of Lamia such as Harridan. Harridan is actually a vulture, but I think its from the bottom up.

Kobold Quarterly - Slithering in MoonlightQuote from a review:
“Slithering in Moonlight” is a guide to using Lamia as player characters. In addition, ....also explores lamias in a way that recalls the excellent “Ecology Of…” articles from back in the print-edition days of Dragon Magazine. Whether as prospective PC’s or just as better-developed foes, this article improves the usefulness of lamias. Also, I thought the story fragment used to introduce this article was particularly effective.

Both the quasi-tauric beings and half-snakes come to mind, though those with big cat lower torsos tend to conflict with and war against wemics.
Also, in my take, they're always the most eager and enthusiastic supporters of Lammashtu-type deities, having been created by curses for acts involving things with creatures often of the type their lower half resembles, their wisdom-draining power developed so they might be able to indulge their rampant base desires on the physical front, but growing so frustrated by the the results that they eventually devour their paramours, and the cycle begins again.

I think of the lion lady. I think of the snaky lamia that have arms as "naga". The human-head-on-a-snake naga from dnd is just weird to me.
These will always be naga to me.

"Rael stands astonished doubting his sight, struck by beauty, gripped in fright;
Three vermilion snakes of female face, the smallest motion, filled with grace.
Muted melodies fill the echoing hall, but there is no sign of warning in the siren's call: "Rael, welcome! We are the Lamia of the pool.
We have been waiting for our waters to bring you cool.”

Listen and be amazed.
Yeah, my immediate answer was going to be "Peter Gabriel," but you beat me to it.
