Two slots left for a Cthulhu D20 Campaign

Gamer Connection

Subject says it all :)

We got two slots left for a Cthulhu D20 campaign with some minor Pathfinder changes.

Four slots have already been taken by very active players.

The campaign has just started and takes place in Massachusetts in 1927. All PCs have taken the bus ride from Boston to NYC, but eventually they had a minor accident.

Here is the newborn ingame thread Heart of Madness

Character creation goes like this:

You roll 4D6, drop the lowest and that seven times and in the end also drop the lowest sum. If the result does not exceed 70, reroll.
Since all characters are humans you don't gain racial benefits.
The game knows no classes, they are just defined by choosing 12 core skills (which will work like Pathfinder class skills) and a defensive or offensive character (rule stuff can also be clarified later)

For those of you interested, this is the Core Rulebook:

Cthulhu D20

To apply, you don't need a finished sheet, I would like to read an intriguing background, motivations, aspirations, beliefs etc. and a reason why your character is on the bus^^

I tend to choose players whose posting history shows that they are active and whose style of writing I like.

Questions left? I bet there are some :)

Dotting for interest and stat rolls

4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 3) = 164d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 4) = 184d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 4, 6) = 194d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 6, 5) = 194d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 1, 5) = 144d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 6) = 154d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 2) = 15

14, 14, 16, 15, 14, 13

Scarab Sages

I'd love to play in a Cthulhu PbP game. I visit these boards nearly every day and I will make it every day when I'm playing. My posts may appear at uncommon times (I live in Germany and therefore abide to WET), but one or two posts a day might well be possible.

I'm a long time CoC player (I own Cthulhu d20, yet haven't used it much) and I would apply a character tomorrow (I work nightshift today, starting in two hours and I will certainly have enough time to come up with a concept to post when I return).
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 2) = 19
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 3, 4) = 9
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 2) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3, 6) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 5) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 6, 2) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 2) = 7
17, 8, 10, 15, 14, 14

I wouldn't worry about "uncommon times", feytharn, half of us are CET as well, and some are in Australia (I think?).

I'm one of the players (Oscar Pine).

Hiya Patcher!

What sort of concepts do you guys have so far? Just seeing where a potential player could fit in.

Scarab Sages

Thank you for the Information. It was less worrying and more being informative so Zyren may base his decision on whom to invite into the game on as much information as possible ;-)

Character Brainstorming (more details tomorrow)

Spoiler:

- Doctor MD from NYC, wife and daughter were killed
-> lost his grip on the world, started drifting and drinking, endet in Boston
-> got caught in the web of the salvation army, sobered up, regained his wits
-> determined to return to NYC to finish his journey and hopefully start a new one.

I was thinking about going for a WW1 veteran who came became a police officer after the war.

Hello, imimrtl!

I play a psychologically damaged copywriter.

The other players play a stuntman, an ex-policeman and a mad scientist (by Zyren's notes). I'm not too sure about the personality the others possess, though.

I'm also from Germany, so that won't be much of a "problem"^^

Yeah, we have mostly all things covered, but we could still need a "face" and another "muscle".

Mad scientist type here. Pesonality is in the profile but high function sociopath would sum it up nicely. Charming but feels very little empathy toward others and will think of himself before others in pretty much any situation. Not really sure what roll he is going to have in the group, could be a "face" and could be a gearhead type person or a little of both.

With that moustache he has to be the face^^

Character spoiler

Spoiler:
Face would be easiest, either I could change my characters profession to actor or I could make him a psychiatrist instead of a medical doctor

Looking at the group I think I am going to go with a former soldier in the British army who emigrated to the US after WWI. Immediately after the war he attended Oxford University where he studied archaeology. He emigrated to the US to accept a teaching position at Harvard University. He would be heading to New York to attend a conference at the American Museum of Natural History.

The raw concepts already sound interesting, but since e just started the recruiting yesterday, there is still plenty of time to refine and wait for other applications.

I came up with this character, I hope he fits your expectations:

Spoiler:

Daniel Tauber (Danilo Giordani)
STR 14 +2
DEX 8 -1
CON 14 +2
INT 15 +2
WIS 10 0
CHA 17 +3

Offensive Option (Daniel enjoys the physical aspect of acting more then anything else. This and his flamboyant personality do make the offensive option the obvious choice)

Reflex +2/-1 (+1) (The good reflex save is what is leftover of his nimbleness – unfortunately his natural dexterity fell victim to alcohol)
Fortitude +0/+2 (+2)
Will +0/+0 (+0)
Base Attack +1
Languages: English, Italian, German

Core Skills:
Bluff 3 +3 (6)
Craft (Carpentry) 1 +2 (3)
Diplomacy 2 +3 +2(7)
Innuendo 1 +0 (1)
Knowledge (Art) 1 +2 (3)
Listen 2 +0 (2)
Performance (acting) 4 +3 (7)
Performance (singing) 2 +3 (5)
Sense Motive 2+0 (2)
Spot 2 +0 (2)
Disguise 3 +3 (6)
Tumble 4 -1 +2 (5)
None Core Skills
Performance (dancing) 1 +3 (4)
Climb 0 +2 (2)
Drive 1 -1 (0)
Gather Information 1 +3 +2(6)
Hide 1 -1 (0)
Swim 1+2 (3)
Sleight of Hand 1 -1 (0)
Jump 0 +2 +2 (+4)

Feats: Acrobatics, Trustworthy

Possessions: Pocket Knife, Brass Knuckles, (ab)used but good smoking, suit (x2), Shirt (x2), Underwear (x2), leather shoes, suitcase, a little money, cigarette case, matches

• Born 1892 in NYC, Father Jakob Tauber, protestant priest, Mother Ruth Tauber
• Left home with 15, joined a travelling Theatrical Company, parents more or less deny his existence
• Returns to New York in 1914, quickly becomes one of the stars of the NY Theatre and later Movie Scene, regular guest in the best clubs (like the Harvard club), starts travelling between NY and LA to grace Hollywood with his dashing performances and good looks, Hotels become his home
• Marries the setgirl and wannabe actress Judy Hiller in1918, marriage is kept a secret as not to endanger his image as dashing adventurer and playboy. Nevertheless, the relationship is a happy one, daughter Janet is born in 1919
• Daniel cannot decide between the stage and the movie set. The constant travel between NY and LA combined with his family life and the act he puts on for the public start to take a heavy toll on his body and psych. He starts drinking, though he has it under control for now. His Wife and Daughter move to NY, because there he has a more “regular” life then he has when filming in LA
• 1924 While Daniel is on set in LA, his Family gets killed during a battle of syndicate bootleggers after they visited friends in Greenwich. This loss hits Daniel hard enough to loose his hold on life. Within month, his drinking becomes a full blown addiction and his career crashes badly.
• Daniel becomes a drifter. The years he spends on the railways pass in a constant blur. In Boston, he is finally picked up by the salvation army. They help him to sober, though the alcohol took its toll on his body, mainly his coordination (he sometimes has pretty bad tremors). Interestingly he kept his good looks (although he looks a good five years older then he really is) and his charm.
• Daniel decides he needs to return to NYC to bring his journey to an end before he can try to get a new life.

After looking over FeytharN's caharcter I have to clarify that we don't use the normal D20 skill points but the PF version. So you get a +3 bonus to all core skills you have a rank in but you don't get the X4 multiplier on first level.

Besides that, the character looks very promising.

OK, I will rework him later, I'm too tired right now (nightshift...), so I'm afraid I would mess things up.

Did you keep spot + listen as two different skills or is it perception like it is in PF?

Hide and move silently=stealth
Listen, spot and search=perception
Jump, tumble and balance=acrobatics

all others remain as separate skills.

Ok, why wait long-I accept both of you :)

Grats and welcome.

looks good, you may both just jump right into action.

Up again!

Campaign is running very smoothly, however, we have one slot open if someone is interested.

Sounds interesting. Would an artist fit? I have purposely not looked at the thread so as not to spoil myself.

stats:

Rolls
1.4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 5, 4) = 16
2.4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 3) = 9
3.4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 1, 1) = 10
4.4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 5) = 14
5.4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 1) = 14
6.4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 6) = 20
7.4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 3) = 13

Final
14, 8, 9, 13, 13, 17, 10

Total 76 just over the line!

Martin Fenwick:

Martin comes from a lower-upperclass family in boston. He was studing at the Bauhaus school as a painter and archetect but recently returned to Boston due to a family emergency.

He is travelling to NY both to continue his studies and to deal with some legal issues.

He would normally take the train but there was a problem on the line and Martin does not want to miss the opening of the new show at the Brummer Gallery. So the bus it is. He is enjoying and sketching the way the hard horizontal lines of the bus interact with the rounded organic lines of the passangers and countryside.

Oh yeah surely, we have a stuntman and an actor, we surely have place for an artist ;)

Feel free to take a look at the IC thread and check if you would like to join.
