Someplace that had extensive, intriguing dungeons...

with a complex, conveniently located city nearby.

We have to trust Paizo will come up with something.

Except you have to remember to chop that 588 pages in (roughly) half. 294 of those pages will be fiction, bestiary, and other support articles.

If this is done as an AP, I think they either need to revise the format for this AP (making it mostly adventure) or extend it to a minimum of 9 volumes.

Not if the support articles are written to be directly used in the AP.

That's the most common complaint against the material in the back of the books; that it doesn't relate directly to the running of the AP it appears with. (The other complaint is that the material is valuable for general use, but the GM/player can't access it, because they're a player in that AP).

E.g. You may not care for the fiction, but if the fiction pages were used to present excerpts from the diaries of those who came before the PCs, and other things that would normally be essential clues and player handouts, that would be far more relevant, and save space that would other wise be taken up in the pages of the adventure.
Same with the Bestiary, the Region guides, the religion essays, etc.
Make sure everything that is in the AP bundle is relevant to the AP, and you'll please far more buyers, and use space far more efficiently.

The problem with comparing Kaer Maga with The Spire of Nex is that since we have so much stuff on Kaer Maga -- a Gamemastery Module, some fiction in an AP, a Chronicles Campaign Setting book and probably some other stuff, maybe some PFS Scenarios, OF COURSE people know it, like it and want more.

Since we have, what, a paragraph on what The Spire of Nex might be and a paragraph saying that Mona came up with the concept, we can't compare them. If we actually had stuff on The Spire of Nex there'd be as many or more people asking for it. But we have nothing.

We can not compare the two.

And we sure as heck can't "vote" based on how many people like Kaer Maga more than The Spire of Nex!

It's not even like "apples" vs "oranges."

It's like "apples, oranges & strawberries" vs "?"

Duh, more people will vote for Kaer Maga; they've gotten a taste.

The Spire of Nex is still a better choice than any of the other dungeons, despite not having a taste of it yet.

NOTE:

That is, The Spire of Nex is the only choice IF The Spire of Nex has been designed as the "Castle Greyhawk" or "Undermountain" of Golarion.

(Absalom the "Flagship" city, like Greyhawk -- Spire of Nex the "MegaDungeon" adjacent)

Others have mentioned The Starstone Cathedral and The Red Redoubt, neither of which I see as being MegaDungeons but that's just one person's perception.

If the designers see little difference between Nex, Red and Starstone then The Spire of Nex would not be an obvious choice. It would be merely equal to all the other dungeons (including Kaer Maga).

Liberty's Edge

Red Redoubt is boring, and it would be a horrible choice. I was really disappointed by Red Redoubt. While the Numerian superscience is cool, the dungeon itself would be dreadfully dull for many players.

It's a giant robot factory where you fight a lot of the same robot over and over and over again. It could be a really tedious slog with very little chances for role-playing or anything that isn't robot bashing.

Of all the dungeons in DoG, Red Redoubt was the one I was most disappointed in by far. It reminded me of the kind of dungeons I designed when I was 13, what with the robot factories and random monsters held in statis. It seems strictly for the combat grinders, and wouldn't make a good AP.

Your reverse psychology isn't going to work. I'm still not running it.

I have to agree with what someone said somewhere above, leave the Spire of Nex to Eric and let him show what he can do with it. As a dungeon that is already out there with an established outline to provide a common framework, Kaer Maga is a better choice for an AP written by 6 different people.
