Portsmouth, Ohio - Pathfinder PbP

Me and some pals from Portsmouth Ohio are trying to get a PbP game together. We're all pretty new to this style of play, but I'd like to jump in, test the waters, and run a short scenario to give everyone a chance to learn.

The introductory scenario will be a premade adventure, starting level 2, any pathfinder-compatible race or class will be allowed. The setting is a magically rich urban environment, social interaction and knowledge skills will be helpful, but any class/race will be a benefit for the party. Everyone will have 1,000 gold pieces to spend on gear, hit points for your first and second level will be maxed. 2 traits from any source can be used. Use 22 points to purchase ability scores. Submit character ideas below, but don't worry about posting a full character sheet. Just post what you'd like to play. I'll be selecting players using my best judgement, and I'd like to keep the group to 4-6 players. If this short scenario goes well, I'd like to build onto it and progress into a longer campaign, players are welcome to continue playing if that happens.

You can email me at coppoldm@mail.uc.edu.

I'm in, Obviously... I'll dream up a character soon... I'm thinking Inquisitor or Magus though....

I would like to play either a death mage or a fighter who would proceed into an armor bonded.

Can I play the Playtest Gunslinger? I think I'd very much like to try it out.

Here?

Rough Concept:

Spoiler:
Roderick VonDiablo, Professional Mercenary, and problem solver. Hailing from a "frontier" town, he grew up in a desperate location. When he was younger a horde of Gnolls assaulted his village, and the only reason he survived was due to a stranger who was passing through. The stranger wielded what he later learned was a "pistol" and was from a secret group of "Gunslingers" Since Roderick's family didn't make it, he tagged along with the old man and learned what he could teach him, with the intent to never be saved again. From now on, he was doing the saving, and if necessary the killing. when the old man passed away years later (he never said his name, so he was just "old man") Roderick buried him, everything except his guns and his hat. Now he travels, looking for his next bit of work, and his next meal.

I'd like to play a CN Human Barbarian with your permission.

Alrighty, I think I've settled with CG Half-Elf Verdant Sorcerer.
As far as story goes, I'll start working on a background, 'n such.

Playtest classes are fine, and so are 3rd party classes, but I'd like to avoid 3rd party classes and races once we move past the introductory scenario. There won't be any alignment restrictions either, but don't expect to get very far if you're playing a CE jackass.

i am thinking maybe oracle

- Elishor Yggdras
- Lives in a small house in the city.
- Survives by selling fruit and vegetables he grows in the market.
- The garden that he raises is on the edge of the forest where he grew up.
- He greatly misses his father who vanished less than a year ago.
- His father raised him alone and always told him stories of his ancestors and their connection with nature.

(So yeah, his main drive in life is to learn about his heritage and figure out what happened to his dad.)

Traits:
- Devotee of the Green
- Child of Nature (Gozreh)

(I realize that it may seem like I'm best fit for a more.. I dunno, wilderness type setting, but these are just small parts of his background that I think he'd have due to being raised in the forest. If you think I should change anything to better fit into the urban setting please let me know.)

I really like what you have so far. Playing a fish out of water can be fun. :)

i found out that my family has lied to me my whole life about who i was
i wasnt even their child, they were raising me as their own on request of
the the local church. it wounded me deeply that the family i loved and known
has lied to me for my entire life, the church discovered when i was a baby that
the gods have already laid claim to me...and wanted me raise by ppl the church
trusted, and the realization of that was proven when i was about 5 when a dear
friend was gored and near dying by one of the farmers bulls, i touch her and she
automatically stabilized....and so i have always wondered and determined to find
out just what i am

traits, suspiciou, and sacred touch

If it is ok, I'd like to throw my concept into the mix. I've been toying with using a bard for some time now. The new Ultimate Magic book had a neat archetype for bard called celebrity. I wanted to make something revolving around that.
Here's my idea.

Richie Royallis is an Aasimar with an outstanding voice and a true gift for performance. These gifts led him to become a very well known bard in the the region and everyone knew the lad. He had lost his mother at an early age and his father was a no show. He spent his early years in an orphanage. He would often sing songs to help sooth the other children. He spent much time studying books and learning the lore of the land. The rest of that time he spent socializing and hanging out with the others kids as well as townsfolk. Soon people began to hear of his musical talents and came to the orphanage to listen. Soon Richie was preforming in concerts. He taught music and preforming arts to other kids in the orphanage. The concerts that followed really helped the orphanage and the children found homes quickly. Richie's gift had helped many people. Once he came of age, he decided to take a more active role in the land around him.

If there is anything you'd like me to change, let me know. I've been wanting to run this character for a good while now and this sounds like the right place to do it.

Since you ok'd the gunslinger I have a few more things to get old/shot down :p

I'm taking the two pistols option of the gunslinger, I was thinking since they were the old mans guns they would have the heirloom weapon trait. I'd be willing to spend both traits to get them both heirloom, or would you be ok with me applying it to both as a set?

Also I've been thinking him over, and he's going to be a mix of doc holiday and mal Reynolds from firefly. Kind of good natured hero overall, but definitely a little cocky and rough around the edges, and somewhat disillusioned with the world at large. He's also kind of sickly, which is why the old man took him in and taught him in the first place (8 constitution I think). He also doesn't believe in resurrection, and will say no to it unless there's some earth shattering need to defy the fates. (or if someone he truly cared for was in danger). That's kind of where I'm at with him right now.

Victor Dakmoor

As a young boy Victor was, as most children are, carefree and happy living in his small farming village with his mother, father, and younger brother Erik. As Victor and Erik grew it became obvious that Erik showed a great aptitude for the magical arts, despite being fairly sickly all through his childhood. Rather than the normal jealousy that most siblings felt Victor was immensely proud and fiercely protective of his physically weaker brother.

A few years later, a few nights before Erik was set to depart for more advanced training in the magical arts, Victor was on his way home he saw a plume of smoke in the distance. He raced home to find his childhood home ablaze with magical fire, conjured by his brother with a botched spell. Victor burst through the door into the blaze to find Erik. Flames licked at him from all sides but he pressed his way into the bedroom they both shared as children only to see his brother being dragged into a fiery portal. He rushed toward his brother and reached out only to be consumed by the fire himself. Up his arms and over part of his face the flames crawled, the brothers screamed in unison as they were pulled apart by an unnatural strength. The flames died almost immedately after the portal closed and Victor lay writing on the floor. After weeks of rest he finally recovered to find himself horribly scarred both physically and emotionally. Hair wouldn't return to the right half of his head and face and his right arm was a disfigured mess. His old strength returned but most of him died that night.

Unable to remain living in his hometown he set out to find something to fill the vast chasm in his soul and perhaps one day to seek revenge on whatever forces took his family.

- Victor is slow to trust but not completely unreasonable, he craves human connection but fears it as well.
- Victor's horrible scars remain to this day and he has sworn never to rid himself of them.
- Victor has very little regard for his own life and charges into conflict when it presents itself but he does not seek it above all other things.
- Victor is often compelled to stand up for spellcasters of any sort if he sees that they are being bullied or picked on or treated unfairly.
- Victor has an abiding fear of fire.

Hope this is alright Dave.
