Is there a limit on the number of players at a valid table? I have three friends who are interested in coming along on the 26th, with the possibility of one or two more to come, and I figure if that's likely to push Steel_Wind into two tables, I should give a heads-up with plenty of time to find another GM.

I'll get a pre-registration page up and we'll take stock later this week. I'll post the link here. Please note: I may decide to go with a custom webpage as I really am not a fan of Warhorn's design.
We should be okay with two tables on the 26th of July. The chances of that happening were anticipated and planned for... "just in case" :)

Looking ahead to the games I'm going to be organizing at Dueling Grounds in September, I was thinking the same thing. Were you going to be grabbing a template or something online, or coding it from scratch yourself?
If it's the latter, I'd be happy to help with some of the coding for the purely selfish reason that then I can use it too - since I'm probably going to end up coding something eventually. I know some basics, though I'm not a professional. You can contact me through the email address on my profile.

In related news, there's a plug-in for Wordpress that looks like it'll do exactly what you (and I) need, in terms of taking Reservations for events, called "Event Manager Extended."
I'm not exactly a Wordpress guru, but also not exactly a noob. I am currently fiddling with the templates and getting stuff to look decent, but it looks like the functionality is set up nicely. I'll see if I can throw up a rough draft on my webspace tonight when I get home from work.
The nice thing about Wordpress is that it takes user registrations, allows different users to create events, and also has space for anything else people might feel the need to share. It COULD serve as a calendar and/or registration site for PFS events all over Toronto and the GTA, were people so inclined.
Anyway, food for thought. At least, it's a little more formal than a Google Spreadsheet. :)
|
|
I'll check out the Event Manager. Azmyth might be interested in it too for his Bay Area Pathfinder Society page.
Have a functional yet basic Wordpress template up on my personal webspace. S_W, if you'd like a username/password that will enable you to experiment with it, drop me an email at the address in my profile and I'll get you set up.

So, I've been working with the Wordpress template for a while, and I've got it set up and functional. At the moment, it's largely finished, with the ability to advertise and take reservations for events. After some conversations with Neil, I chose to set up the site as the Southern Ontario PF Lodge, so that it's available for those outside of the GTA as well. The site is closely modeled after the Bay Area Pathfinder Site, with the main intent being to provide an online place for players to register for an event.
The website is now live at www.OntarioPathfinders.com
You can reserve a spot at a given event without registering at the website. If you register for the website, and send me a message (here or at the site) then I can set permissions to allow you to post an event there so that players can reserve spots.
Feedback on the website is welcome, from anyone inside or outside of Southern Ontario. If you think of something that's missing from the site, it's a simple matter to add it - just let me know and I can either take care of it, or set permissions so you can.

Just a reminder that the first Tuesday Night PFS at 401 Games begins this Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 401 Games on 401 Yonge St., in Toronto, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 pp.m.
We will be playing upstairs on the second level of the store.
I would ask those who can to confirm their registration at the Souther Ontario Pathfinder Society page at OntarioPathfinders.com if at all possible. While we will accommodate walk-in players whenever possible, the best way to ensure yourself a spot at the table(s) is to register ahead of time. It's better for you and it's better for those of us oragniazing this thing so we can make sure we have enough GMs to provide everybody with a great play experience. It only takes a minute to fill in the reservation at the above link. Please do so.
The scenario we will be running at the first session on July 26 is The Devil We Know, Part 1.
If more than enough players show up so that we can run multiple tables, we will go with either another session of The Devil We Know Pt 1 or some other low tier scenario.
It will be an "audible" call depending on the GMs present and the interests of those players looking to play.
If you do not already have a Pathfinder Society #, you can register by hitting the Pathfinder Society link in the upper left hand corner of the wepage. I will bring some pre-registered cards and #s to provide players who attend without a Society # and card.
Neil and I look forward to seeing you at 401 Games this coming Tuesday night!

The 401 Games signup appears to have "eaten" the Dueling Grounds signup. Was this intentional?
thanks
K
It appears that way, you're right, but that isn't exactly what happened. The widget on the main page shows the next five events on the calendar. Because Dueling Grounds doesn't start until September, these next five are all at 401. Once we're into September, they should stagger back and forth.
All the events are visible in the calendar, though. If you go to the Events Calendar link in the Navigation menu, it'll actually show you a scrollable calendar by month, with all of the events in the database being visible.
I do admit that it's a bit confusing as-is. I'm in the process of reworking the Welcome page to ensure that it's a little more clear. In the meantime, I've changed the title of the main-page widget to "Next 5 PFS Games"

I posted a message on the Toronto Area Gamers (TAG) Meetup messageboard as well, FWIW.

It looks like there are ten people signed up at the moment. Should I drop out in order to make room for others?
You might also put in a request for a tier 1 scenario that you haven't played before (though it might be too late - depends on GMs preparedness with other scenarios) at the second table. If there are two tables, S_W has said they might run a different low-tier scenario at a different table. I know you've mentioned that you have played a lot of scenarios already, but you know, worst case scenario is that no one can run one that you can play for credit. 'Cause ten people is still only two tables, right?
And hey, if things go well, maybe there'll be THREE tables after walk-ins. :)

There will absolutely be AT LEAST two GMs. We planned for this -- that's why we put it off for a July 26 start so we could be certain to have enough GMs and players to fill out tables as necessary.
Neil Shackleton, the Venture-Captain for So. Ontario will be there and ready to run as needed basis (which at this stage certianly looks to be necessary) as well as me. I have drawn to Neil's attention that there are a few players who cannot play The Devil We know Pt 1 for credit, so Neil may decide to run a different scenario to accommodate those players. As I mentioned previously, it will be an "audible" at the time we start and muster tables.
Please don't drop. We would love to have you there and we can accommodate the extra players. Hell, at this point, it you want to come and be prepared to run a Tier 1 scenario? That might be a good idea too :) We may end up with enough players for three tables at this rate. (Hell, maybe more for all I know).
Which is a very nice way to start off Tuesday Night PFS @401 Games. These things tend to have their problems at the beginning, so this is a great response from the GTA Pathfinder community.
I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow night!

Point of information: At this moment, I believe that he's technically the Venture Captain for Canada. He has millions of Pathfinders at his beck and call! Tremble! Tremble at his power and influence!
:)
The fact that Neil was only named for Ontario perhaps indicates that there are not millions of Pathfinders in the rest of Canada... although we're building a decent following here in Winnipeg, and I think Edmonton is growing as well. He's too far away for me to do much trembling (yet). :)

Ahem. Perhaps I wasn't firm enough. Let's try again:
MILLIONS.

@Feegle
Thanks for the clarification.
This is my first PFS, so low-level sounds good.
I’m assuming that I’ll get a registration number at the session and I’ll enter it later online.
I’m really glad that PFS is picking up in Toronto, itself. My only concern is that there are no weekend sessions. I have one experienced player who works too far north to make a 6 o'clock session.

If he makes it by 6:30 he might be okay. Later than that? No.
Hey, I'm feeling you though. If I could run PFS on a Sunday afternoon, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
The reality is, Friday, Saturday and Sunday are not available for in-store play in almost any store as those days are dominated by the big money earners for organized play: Magic:The Gathering and whatever other game happens to be the card game or overpriced collectable minis based game de jour.
Those games have more fans in terms of organized play and, above all, makes scandalously more money for almost any hobby store in question. They get the prime time slots and we are left to pick among the remaining dates and times.
So we are left with Monday to Thursday nights. As it so happens, Tuesday is best for me for podcast recording purposes (any other night would create another conflict in the podcast hosts' overlapping schedules). As it also happened, the only night of the week which was available at 401 Games was Tuesdays. So the only night turned out to be the best possible night for me (that was not on a weekend).
I wish the store hours were such that 7:00-11:00 were available to us. If we marshal a large enough group of players on a regular basis, and the store sees a significant uptick in its Pathfinder books sales -- this might become possible in the future. I will certainly lobby for it. But it will cost them more money to keep the store open, etc..
Right now? Tuesdays, 6-10 was the best slot available. It's far from ideal, but I can roll with it.

My contact at Dueling Grounds has said that, while closing time is technically 10 pm, he usually hangs around until whatever game that's running is done. Combining this with the fact that Thursday nights are a MtG draft night as well there, it shouldn't be a big deal to run a little overtime. I'd like to build up some goodwill before taking full advantage of that fact, but when we start at DG in the fall, we may also see a slightly later timeframe.

Oh, I forgot: Steel_Wind, you were using your iPad to track initiative and stuff last night and I was curious what app you were using. Care to share? What else does it track?
I was using Tabletop Initiative Tracker. It's like 0.99 for the iPhone/iPod Touch and FREE for the iPad.
For all that? I wasn't very impressed with it. I'll use it again just to be sure (I might not have been using it as well as I should have been) but I wasn't terrible enamored with it, tbh.
There is a sore and pressing need for a clone of the GameMastery Combat Pad made as an app for the iPad. I had hoped that TiT (*ahem*) would serve that function, but right now? I don't think so.

Thanks so much to all the people who turned out last night for the inaugural Tuesday PFS Night at 401 Games.
The event was not advertised with any in-store poster or on 401’s own website. We have not released Episode #015 of the podcast where we also discuss the event. We have not advertised the event at UofT or Ryerson. The only place the event was really discussed was in this thread and on one post on the ENWorld Pathfinder forum that I think went up there five days ago.
We wanted to keep the advertising of the event relatively restrained and under control in the beginning as it is very difficult to estimate interest and potentially even harder to accommodate the interest of all players by providing enough GMs to run tables. The part of me that just wants to “go for broke” was kicking the ass of the part of me that was urging a more conservative two toes-in-the water approach.
Well, as it turns out, the conservative approach was the correct one to take. We had two full tables of six players each and had enough players to run three tables. With further advertising both in-store, on the store’s website, on the podcast and at UofT and Ryerson, it looks to me that we can probably completely fill all of 401’s organized play space with a bit of effort to get the word out. So that’s excellent news.
The downside to this is that the demand of players for PFS scenarios is clearly outstripping our ability to provide those tables with GMs. I really – REALLY – need the help of GMs within the Toronto Pathfinder community to step up and assist in running Tuesday PFS Night events as a GM. If you aren’t able to commit to every Tuesday, that’s fine. Every other and ad hoc assistance would be great. Make no mistake, the need is pressing, real and critical.
It would be a shame for interest of players to initially be so high that we have to turn players away for lack of GMs to run events. What’s worse is that it becomes increasingly difficult to drum up player interest when they turn out for an event and are then turned away for lack of a GM. As you can appreciate, that sort of letdown is not the sort of occurrence which tends to breed warm and happy thoughts – and just crushes and deflates interest. So please, if you are able to run a table on Tuesday night, or know another GM who can, please contact me at steelwind at d20radio dot com and we can discuss it. The need is both genuine and urgent.
A reminder that there will NOT be a PFS Tuesday on August 2, 2011 due to GenCon. (The ontariopathfinders.com webpage is currently wrong in that regard and we will soon correct it.) We will resume PFS Tuesday Night @ 401 Games on Tuesday, August 9, 2011.
Lastly, for those players at my table last night – thanks for the great session! I’ll get your PFS character data keyed in tonight as I didn’t have a chance to do it last night!

I've removed that event from the calendar. No worries, and we'll see you in two weeks.

I might be able to GM a session one week, although I was rather hoping to play Devil You Know, part II (since I've played parts 1, 3 and 4).

If you want to play Devil We Know Pt II, then confirm your attendance and you will be playing it on the 9th. :) There is no rule that says GMs can't play. I would rather GMs also played and took turns, tbh. It makes for a better overall vibe at the table and GMs are less likely to burn out that way.
I have another GM lined up for the 9th, but frankly I can use a third GM for the 9th, too, if you know anybody. As for the balance of the month of August -- I need as many as GMs as I can get at this stage. :)
If you could GM on the 16th? That would be awesome. Perhaps running First Steps Pt 1 might be of interest to you?
