This is contingent upon him first checking for danger and feeling safe, but he is searching along the way to the chamber, as well as on the inside of it

Zachary will quietly mutter to the others, "Well, whatd'ya think? I could throw some light in that room, if you guys are up for that, but we don't know what's in there, and I'd rather get the jump on 'em if it's more of them crystal things."
Since everyone else is too, I'll roll initiative.

As you enter the mouth of the chamber you find that the light of the crystals dims - the cavern itself here stretches diagonally two hundred feet to both sides before it goes right out of view. It is the middle of the area that provides interest: a large crystal floats about three hundred feet away from you, almost thrice your size. It appears to glow but with no apparent colour. The surface of the floor has shifted from natural cavern to flat, smooth stone - it almost seems artificial.

Frum calls to the others to come into the room, but not to touch the big crystal.
Expect more crystal monsters in here fellas
Frum inspects the cavern walls for differences in the crystals in this room versus the others. Regardless, he will take samples from here and keep them in a separate pouch.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 perception
Frum is careful to watch for movement in the crystal walls prior to another attack as he collects his samples and continues to riddle out how everything fits together.

Zachary follows into the cavern, scowling at Rafael and Frum and saying, "C'mon, do ya really have to take more? Them crystal beasties are gonna tan our hides if ya keep it up."
After he says this, he looks around expectantly for more "crystal beasties."
Perception roll:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
He sighs anxiously and grumbles, "Can't stand these stupid caves. When're we gettin' outta here?"
| DM Patcher |
You find another minor cache of 'ripe' gems on the way up, though with only three samples this time. They also seem different - more alchemical than of value. As you appraise them all, you find that the earlier gems have some value - at least a hundred gold a piece, if not more - though they are rough.
From what you can tell, the enormous crystal ahead does seem tied with the crystal caverns - though why this is eludes you.
You find a small cache of gems - rough and hewn, they nonetheless appear to have some value. It does seem these caverns both supply alchemical ingredients and gems of value.
As you approach closer to the enormous gem, you find that it suffers from a large crack that almost splits it in half; there is a great mark upon it, almost like a claw or multiple blades in the middle, and from there the cracks trail in all directions. It floats upon a small podium, and it appears very brittle.

Frum inspects the large gem at the center of the room, careful to not touch it.
As far as I can tell, this was. . attacked? Frum frowns and looks for tracks and other signs of a struggle.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
I suspect the attack on the crystal caused the earthquake that trapped us in here. The question is, what made the attacker stop? And what would happen if this were destroyed completely? I don't expect anything good. Why would someone want to destroy it?

The floor is too smooth to truly find tracks - though what little dust there is seems to have been...swooped away? Then again, why would anything be flying in the caverns apart from bats?
From what you can tell, this crystal is irrepairable - though the question crosses your mind as of why it has to be repaired in the first place.
You see no exits from where you stand, though most of the cavern is enveloped in darkness.
You have little to no recollection of claw marks like these - not in the fields of the arcane. While you remember spell theories of spells that are quite capable of performing extraordinarily precise force like this, it's also implausible that anybody with such powers would be here.
While the theory of it being an egg would make sense, the claw marks are external, and peering inside the crack it is all solid.
You all huddle around the crystal, examining it properly - it floats maybe two inches from the ground, though is still motionless. There seems to be no right explanation for why it floats, though there is little time to muse as Darche reaches up to touch it.
A flash of light burns the Kincade as it trails up the crystal, to the very top - the entire cavern is illuminated in white as cracks trail down to the very bottom - and in an instant, it shatters with such force that you are all blown straight into the walls on the side. Stumbling up on your feet, there is an eerie silence - and then a roar.
The crystals around the entrance extend to close it off - the earth trembles as a giant, four-legged, winged creature emerges from the ground where the crystal stood. A long, scaled tail sways from side to side - its body is prismatic in colour. The dragon's eyes peer at you all with rage, and some sort of drool, as colourful as his scales, dribbles down his lips. He roars - and poises to attack!
Initiative rolls, please - also post your HP, AC values and your saves.
Map description: The area is a large circle - at least 500 feet in diameter. You don't have to depict the entirety of the room. The dragon is large - and in the middle of the room. You are all on the south side, by the walls, with around 200 feet between you and him. If you need more info for the map, do ask.

Map looks good. Thank you. It is a large dragon, yes - and I have no picture. A generic dragon image should work. And yes, the exit/entrance to this part of the cave has been closed shut.
While you have a good repertoire of dragons, a prismatic one such as this eludes you completely - while the crystals in the cavern were brittle, you don't think that trait has transferred over to this beast.
All you can tell from the nature of reptiles in general is that their bellies tend to be soft-scaled. If this applies to dragons, you can only hope.
This is a dragon. Definitely a dragon. Minor nitpick, it's 'shield', not 'sheild'.
Awaiting Skender and Lucca's actions.
| DM Patcher |
Skender and Lucca both deliver strong blows to the dragon's scaled body - it doesn't betray pain in expression, though the way its body shudders, it is clear that you are hurting it.
Clearly agitated, the dragon spreads its wings...and leaps off the ground. It soars towards you, fifty feet in a large leap, and crashes ten feet away from Coross. A strange liquid - or is it gas? - bubbles in its mouth...and with a roar it blasts a wave of this odd mixture in Coross' direction.
Rafael, dragon moved to JK89. Coross, Zachary and Rafael, please make a reflex save.
In this time of great danger, you feel a surge of power - and panic - run through your veins. You gain a +1 trait bonus to attack rolls for the duration of this fight.
If you succeed on a DC 12 reflex save, you only take half damage.
