Does Ustalav make sense?

I haven't read the whole thread, so maybe it's been said before, but there is a really basic strategic reason to why Ustalav wouldn't probably be pounded even if it hadn't Liches, haunts and stuff (which I don't think Demons would be so afraid of), and wardstones.

It's the fact that each of the bordering hostile forces is itself threatened on one or more sides.
Demons move their forces to Ustalav, and Mendev (and maybe Mammoth Lords) exploit the situation to make a tabula rasa of the Worldwound.
Orcs try it, and they get crushed from behind by Lastwall (and, again, maybe Mammoth Lords too).
Numeria would have the better chance at it, but it doesn't look like it's so prone to invasions, to me. And if it was, it has literally greener pastures on the River Kingdoms, before turning to more troublesome places (both pragmatically and politically) like Ustalav.

I can't remember if it was exactly stated why, but I think it be because mortals opened the Worldwound, and so mortals have to deal with it?

I'd really like to know the actual reason why the Abyss has a foothold there, as I will need this info for a homecampaign I'm about to start. If some of you know the exact AP Chapter that details the properties / reasons of the Worldwound I would greatly appreciate if you point me in that direction...

I'd recommend the actual Worldwound setting book. Though I think City of Locusts also has a lot of details.

Areelu Vorlesh opened the Worldwound back while Aroden was still alive. It just wasn't that big back then.

After Aroden died, Deskari widened the Worldwound into the massive chasm it is now.
