Anyone have any idea when this map pack will be released in South Korea? I wanted to buy it today, didn't have enough points, bought points, then got the "sucks you're not in one of the privileged countries" message.
I've looked at the immensely-unnavigable COD website, and even made a profile so I could ask the question. Of course, I got a dozen responses from 12 year olds who didn't answer the question but were quick with racist wit. Google has been worthless, as well.

This page link (Korean) says May 3rd on xbox live...
Thanks!
edit:
Hmm... I just tried to buy it again, and got the unfortunate, sorry, this title is not available in your region."
Maybe I've got a network issue.

They also have a free weekend it seems, which just started 1,5 hours ago and lasting till Wednesday.
Maybe see if you can get play it for free first? (Don't know how other than following the button at the bottom...no xbox and my Korean isn't good enough.)

Ah that's too bad.
Getting a new one seems to be the only way then, or get a used one if you really want those maps. :)

The problem is that they locked the add ons to the disc region to the machine region to the IP address. I can only buy and use an add on that agrees with my machine, the disc and the IP. If I bought a Korean version of Black Ops, it wouldn't work in my machine, and I couldn't download the maps, because the machine would disagree with the disc (which wouldn't play anyway) and IP.
Luckily, Black Isle and EA haven't done this, so I'll be able to get the Fallout NV add ons later this summer. MS doesn't do this either--I bought and played the Halo Reach add ons, no problem.
Very irritating. I'm still trying to figure out how this policy curbs piracy.

The Escalation Map pack is SWEET! Call of the Dead is of course my favorite (come on Robert Englund and Sarah Michelle Gellar). Oh and the hidden music track isn't to bad.
The maps seem to have A LOT more cover and sniper positions (again yay), and just seem bigger compared to the Ascension and the orignal maps.
As for the bad of it. I really haven't seen any. Unless you count the random modder.

From Activision:
"Finally while the game itself is not region locked any DLC for the game may be. If you purchase DLC for a game from another region it may not show up due to geofencing. Geofencing is the practice of locking DLC based on your IP address. For instance if you live in the UK and have a US version of the game you may end up with the US DLC. Since your IP address would be a UK IP address the DLC would be locked to you even though you have a US verison of the game. There is no way around this."
So I replied, "These kinds of blanket policies do far more to promote piracy than curb it: I, for example, have spent literally a couple hours just trying to figure out why I couldn't legally buy a copy of the map packs.
I own a legally purchased Xbox 360. I own a legally purchased copy of Black Ops. I have a legitimate Live account. I'm not trying to buy a Korean version of the map packs--or, as in your example, a UK version.
No, indeed, I'm trying to buy a US version for my US game. Nonetheless, since the map packs have now been released in both affected regions--the US and Korea--, and since the only substantial difference between the two packs is language support, I fail to see how me getting a US version at a South Korean IP address has any bearing at all on licensing and anti-piracy. If anything, this policy, poorly thought-out--or poorly explained, at least, to the consumer, is actually making me think of less reputable ways to get the data."

From the marketing director at Treyarch:
___________________________________________________________________________ _______
"With Map Pack 2 now released, I wanted to address a question circulating the forums regarding certain regions of the world that are not able to download any of the [COD] DLCs.
Microsoft has a "geo-fencing" policy with games like Call of Duty: World at War. This means that you may only purchase the Map Packs if your internet connection is physically located in the country where your LIVE account exists. The policy exists to ensure that you can't download content that is not allowed in your region.
For example:
If you are an US serviceman living abroad with a US Xbox 360, you can not purchase the Map Packs until you are back in the US.
If you are a German, living in Italy with a German Xbox LIVE account, you can not purchase the Map Packs unless your IP address is located in Germany
If you are living in any country which does not have it's own Xbox LIVE marketplace, like Poland, you are probably part of the UK Marketplace. You can not purchase the Map Packs, unless you are physically located in the UK.
I'd like to be clear that this restriction is nothing we have control over at Treyarch or Activision and there is unfortunately nothing we can do about it. If you have purchased Microsoft Points with the intent to download Map Pack 2, and realize you are unable to due to this “geo-fencing” (as it’s referred to), the best you can do is contact Xbox LIVE customer support and tell them that you had intended to purchase the Map Pack and are unable to do so.
It’s important to note that the vast majority of players will be unaffected by this so shouldn’t worry – but for the small percentage of players in non-supported regions, we sympathize with your frustration.
Regards,
-JD"
OK, so not Treyarch/Activision's policy. I understand the idea behind what MS has done, but it fails to make any sense once the map packs have been released in the country of IP origin: now that Escalation is available in Korea, it shouldn't matter that I want an English language version and I want to purchase it with my US LIVE account. Sounds like a sensible policy for initial non-simultaneous releases, but why not turn off the geofencing at this point? I'm not holding my breath for Escalation, since the First Strike map pack is still blocked months after release.
Oh well, thanks to all who responded in this thread.
