How do you do your statblocks?

When you're statting up monsters or NPCs do you have a custom document style that you use? Do you use the Paizo statblock? Something much more superficial?

An example - here's the version I'm currently using for "pimped" monsters. I can usually find everything pretty quickly on it but I'm not happy yet. What about you folks?

Everything from CR down to Resistance to charms looks nice. I might have to steal that part.

Here is one of mine.

Unfortunately, one is denied access to that file. Would you mind making it public?

And - how do you do spell lists and crossing off spells? (if it's not in the example I'll see soon?) ;-)

It is public. I just looked at it while I did was not even logged in.

PS:The poster making the guide to witches document had similar issues. Google doc seemed to keep changing the permissions on it.

Try it now. If it does not work let me know.

Thank you - its working now - I was denied permission earlier.

Hmmmm, do you DM from a laptop? I waste ages trying to squeeze everything onto one side of A4 if remotely possible, with a picture (or a buffed statblock) on the back.

Since my reason for asking is to try to save time in the future, maybe I should stop being so anal and flick through a few pages for a change! :-)

I use a Word template with the 3.5 DMGII statblock (which, for the most part, is pretty close to the Paizo statblock).

Those that are famuliar with my stat blocks should recognize that they are highly bastardized versions of Paizo's format. Certain bits that are often missing I include - Feint and Intimidate DCs, incorporeal touch AC (when applicable) for example.

I tend to organize mine differently in some aspects, as I prefer certain bits "up top": senses (and sensory skill checks, including Spellcraft bonus for a rare few critters), speed/movement modes (and movement skill checks) tend to go on top beneath the name, CR and critter type (subtype) information. Then I generally do AC (lumping CMD in here really helps), save bonuses, hit points (along with any innate healing, DR, immunities, resistances, weaknesses / vulnerabilities and special thresholds), ability scores, attack/offensive goodies block, feats, skills breakdown, spells stuff and gear/loot dead last. Sometimes the gear gives stuff that is listed in the top portions, as are any dispellable "buffs" factored with some kind of formatting to let me quickly discern what is going on with a particular block.

I do them by hand on Word documents, printing out the ones I anticipate using if I am traveling for a given game session. Otherwise I haul the laptop with all the particulars on it.

During the massive project that my Kingmaker campaign has become, I found it VERY helpful to stuff the baddies for a particular Chapter within their own folder. Unique entities that crop up repeatedly I need to put in their own folder.

Spell-heavy stat blocks are often incredibly complicated, especially for ones that lean heavily on a sequence of "pre cast" spells. Once they're done though, they're done and ready to rumble. Feat-heavy stat blocks can suffer similarly as I try to incorporate all of those capabilities into the block.

Sometimes I use a laptop. I try to get everything on one page also, but sometime, such as with dragons it just does not happen.

I also have the buffed stat blocks also to save time.
A4 paper is that really small paper IIRC. It is better to use regular sized paper, IMO.

I do something similar.

It goes:
Campaign name-NPC Folder-Chapter X
The stat blocks are for an NPC are in that specific chapter.
I need to get around to making my generic NPC folder, but I always seem to find a reason to put it off.

I do the precast spells also in order of importance in case those sneaky PC's get past my defenses.
I also put the bonus each spell provides.
As an example:
Bulls Strength(assuming two handed weapon is being used:+2 to hit +3 to damage

Mine looks very similar to yours, with the exception that the abilities (STR, DEX etc) are way up at the top, below the "what it is" and "how big it is", and the AC is below with the saves and other "special defences". Basically, mine is an hybrid of 2E AD&D and 3.5

without formating, that's what it looks like:

MONSTER (CR X)
[Size] [Type] ([Subtype])

DESCRIPTION
Abilities: Str X Dex X Con X Int X Wis X Cha X
health / Vitality:
HD / BAB:
Speed:
Initiative:

OFFENCE
Space/Reach:
CMB:
Attack:
Attack Options:

DEFENCE
Armour Class: XX(+X size, +X Dex, +X natural etc)
[insert space] touch XX, flat-footed XX
Saving Throws: Fort +X Ref +X Will +X
Special Defences:

OTHER
Racial Traits: Low-light vision, scent etc
Skills:
Feats:
Notes:

I find that I often forget to take the creature's feats in consideration when they are somewhere in the middle of the block. First at the top was weird, last at the bottom was better. Spell-like abilities go in "racial traits" but are often duplicated in "attack options" or "special defences" as appropriate.
