Prestige Class for ex-paladins

Dabbler,

I'm fiddling with the concept of a prestige class designed for ex-paladins again, and request your permission to built from the knight errant class you made last years.

The way it is going, it will be a bit different but will focus around oaths/taboos, whose credits rightfully belong to you.

So if that's cool by you, I will have something to post by the end of the week. any comeback from you, as well as any others, would obviously be welcome.

If a prestige class were made for fallen paladins, I would say it would need to be similar to the low templar, with the two paths. At 1st level, there are two paths (for the sake of ease), the Righteous path, where the character made the wrong choice for all the right reasons, willfully did something that would force them to lose their powers but for good reasons, where the intent was entirely Good, but not in line with the Code.

The other path would be where the character willfully committed an evil act with the intent of doing evil. Both paths would give access to roughly equal things, and at 5th, you choose another path. Perhaps the character is on his way to true atonement, or has turned down a darker path. And finally, at 10th, the ultimate choice. Full atonement (and being allowed to progress as a paladin after that) or full damnation, going for a different class.

Just my two cents, and something I'd find very nice to have as a GM for a fallen but still Good paladin NPC.

The class is pretty much planned out already, but I'm waiting for dabbler's heads-up since the underlying ideas are clearly his.

At the moment, the class has four "path", but you could easily add others. None of which are inherently evil (there's the antipaladin for that) and although it is not stated as such, the class assumes that the character remains a hero, albeit a tarnished one.

More to come soon.
