Special:
Osirions,
I am thinking of making a “simpler” druid for novice players. So I’m thinking of taking away the animal companion, and replacing it with a “Familier”. I’m also thinking of taking away the shape changing ability to remove complexity.
I’m not sure what to replace these things with.
What do you all think good idea bad idea? I know it needs work. Thanks.

The Druid is already a spontaneous caster... sorta. Summoning spells at least. :P
The limitation of spells-known would help in balancing against spontaneous spells, but not in addition to being able to cast more spells than Druids can by using the Sorcerer's per-day. You'd give little reason at all to play an actual Druid. Unlike the Arcane classes, Druid spell list is much shorter already, so picking and choosing what spells they know won't be a huge deal.
So this class would cast more spells per day, probably limit themselves to the spells they'd normally prepare anyways, and cast them all spontaneously. There's no reason to be a Druid.
Better idea might be a Druid Feat that lets' you change what spells are available to their Spontaneous Casting. Ie: Healing spells (Cure Light, Moderate, Serious, Critical, and mass versions of the spells, meaning no level 2 spell is spontaneous) -instead of- Summoning spells. Or if there's a theme, like a plant druid maybe a generated list like (Entangle, Tree Shape, Plant Growth, Command Plants, Wall of Thorns, Liveoak, Animate Plants, Control Plants, and Shambler)
I know from my own experience that the Druid in our party "prepares" all the healing spells, and uses the summoning spells as needed in place of them. (and goodberry on non-adventuring days). Not sure if that's a more universal method, or just her being a bit of a newb like myself. But if it is the way a lot of people work, than a system like the feat I suggested would cover pretty much every combination.

Thank you Sphynx. Perhasps a “spontaneous feat would be a good idea.
I have just thought that the druid is one of the most complicated character classes to play, with so many statistics to keep track of. For example, the different forms of wild shape, and the animal companion, and also all the summoned nature allies.
I am thinking of trying a “druid” that was simpler and easier to play.
Also I have been toying with the idea of in a home game, tieing spell casting to Hit dice to base attack bonus.
For example
Good Base attack bonus, d10 hit points: Spell casting as per ranger/ paladin
Medium Base attack bonus, d8 hit points : spell casting per Bard/ inquisitor/ magus etc
Poor base attack bonus, d6 hit points : spell casting per sorcerer/ wizard
I have been contemplating entirely cutting out the cleric and druid.
I was planning to replace the cleric with the Priest, from tome of secrets. I realized once I was planning to axe the cleric, I thought it would be a good idea to follow through with the druid as well. when compared to the fighter, rogue, and mage, the cleric has a few more goodies: hence the priest.
I am just toying with these ideas. I prefer a more monkish devine spellcaster, closer to a monk instead of a knight templar.
The paladin can then fit in as a “holy warrior” of a church.
For “holy warriror”s of other faiths, I have been contemplating using the “holy Warrior” by green roning
Its all just on the sketch pad so to speak. It needs more work.
Thanks

Well, just 1 idea that I came up with which might help out with keeping track of everything for the Druid...
I changed Wild Shape to At Will, if the druid shifts as if 2 levels lower than she is, and the form is a Natural Animal. This helps theme, as the Druid in my game likes Wolves so being able to shift to wolf form anytime at all, she doesn't even use her higher forms anymore, except maybe when the big boss is in view.
Similarly with Summoning spells, as long as she only has 1 summons going on at a time, and the spell used is cast as if she were 2 levels lower, and it is a "natural animal", the spell is not expended when cast and may be used again. So, typically, there's another wolf in the mix. :P
When things don't change, it's easier to keep track of things. ;)
