I am a fan of FR but I care not for the books. I will ignore them and twist the canon as I see fit, even going so far as mixing things from different periods or replacing some things with others... Like cutting off any references of Ao (it started with Shar and Selune), reworking reasons and events of Time Of Trouble, replacing sarrukh with serpentfolk, making Mulhorand and Unther gone during Time Of Troubles or earlier or possibly rewriting their backstory to erase any reference to Egypt.
For a CSI-like series I'll probably go with CSI: Waterdeep or CSI: Skullport... Maybe I could consider CSI: Calimport or CSI: Raven Bluff but I don't think so.

While I played in various areas of Faerun I have never played in Cormyr.
The closest relation to Cormyr we had was a Cormyr-born Fighter PC in Pathfinder campaign (who got retired and replaced by local Moonsea region-born Ranger around level three).
Oh, and my Fighter/Wizard/Eldritch Knight/Spellfire Channeler aglarondian sailor was living on Dragon Coast prior to his adventuring career.
Our Realms games have always been centered on the Dales and Cormyr except for one brief Silver Marches Game.

Well just going off what I know from reading a few books on the city, I actually see a 'CSI:Waterdeep' as working very well.
For Skullport, I see it more as a 'Skullport Vice' show. ;P
I LOVE the NWN games. I have played the original NWN (And the expansions) more than once. (Actually the ONLY video game I have ever done so with!)
Now if I could JUST find the time to actually play NWN2 beyond the opening scenario or two! ;P (Actually, Now that I have a laptop that might actually run it without crashing,...)
Hey Ferb! I know what I'm gonna do this three-day weekend! :)

Oh, sh**... Being naked in CSI-related post? That does not bode well. Now FaWtLies will have to make a long investigation to discover who killed me and left naked.
Warning - opera post...
For some reason, this reminded me of the way I was helping a friend understand "realism" in late 19th century opera. I mentioned that it tends to be violent, and he said earlier operas could be violent too. So I explained it thus:
"When someone dies in a Verdi opera, it is like an Agatha Christie mystery, where some posh dinner guests find a still body on the floor. There is no blood or grittiness and there is a general nobility about everything. When someone dies in a Puccini opera, it is like an episode of Law and Order where they find a naked, dismembered corpse in a dumpster."
Then it all made sense.

I've beaten Shadows of Undrentide a couple of times and Hordes of the Underdark twice, but never managed to finish the first game. The vast majority of my experience with NWN has been on various online servers: Realms of the Dragon Reach, Sojourney, Myth Drannor, Cormyr and the Dalelands, and World Serpent Inn. CD was the one I spent the most time on - helped found it, served as a DM for a long time and an Admin for several years - and RDR is where I got my start and may be returning to soon if it comes back up.

still love opera, although you certainly know far , far more aboutit than I do. Still hate alphabet soup cop shows. As an aside, I could never get into les miserable due to being surrounded by fanatic fans - i almost met the same fate with Sweeny Todd, but I saw it in high school long before meeting my first rabid fan.

What are those different days of week everyone else is speaking about?

I dunno. Time passes when people come online and go offline and the ball of fire in the sky comes and goes.

THAT'S what I'm talking about!
When you work every bleedin' day, there are no weekends! ;(

Gunnery Sergent/Magical firepower coordinator (Or similar)
I don't want to be the captain (too big a target!) But I can run the gun/lightning bolt crews like nobodys business! And then I still get to give orders! :)

Damn FPP...I always just keep the view in third person, and only switch to first person when I'm using ranged attacks or need to pick something up. I usually have wicked bad motion sickness from games, and that seems to get rid of most of it.
I get vertigo when my character is falling a long distance in game. I had a rogue in WOW with that ability to fall long distances without dying...but I couldn't use it because I'd get so dizzy.

This was pages and pages ago. You weren't looking, so I summoned a solar with cleric levels that owed me a favor and blammo, we're hitched. Don't feel bad. I married a few other people who were equally distracted. I'm surprised more people don't do this.
Wait, there's BACON?
Of course!

Thing about FR is that it's really diverged into a bewildering mass of DIFFERENT settings all on its own. The core Realms is what Ed wrote, basically the western and eastern Heartlands, really a quite points-of-lightish setting which to my thinking is still awesome. Then various supplements, expansions, books, events and so on have added stuff to this core, not all of them fitting in very well or being very good, AND MANY OR MOST OF THESE HAVE CONTINUED INDEPENDENTLY OF EACH OTHER. For example, once Netheril was defined beyond "ancient magical empire", Netherese details have absorbed more and more stuff to itself.
It's like London, it's easier to understand if you manage to see it as several vaguely connected pieces than try to make a picture containing all of it at once.
Or just ignore the parts you don't like.
Like Smelminster for example.

You know that with Kajehase as our vessel you will be mostly a figurehead who talks to suppliers and customers?

No, Solnes will be the figurehead as soon as we get her shirt off and have her ride the prow like a drunken coed at a rodeo.

And my players mostly know the Faerun from Baldur's Gate and, to a lesser degree, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale and a few other games.
Current group, has a female Paladin of Triad from Icewinddale and a half elf who is a former city guard from Baldur's Gate who firmly belives that his family name from the mother side is Avariel... Which might start interesting discussion when another's half elf grandfather (high elf mage from Myth Drannor) will appear in the city.

No, but I'm not likely to for a while yet. They said 2 to 3 weeks to get the answer about their budget. If their budget process is like every other corporation in the world, 2 to 3 weeks is more like 4 to 6.
