Pesky man!

Good to hear that he's not in danger or whatsoever, but sorry to hear he's sick.

Interesting. My teriyaki is essentially 50% mirin, 50% soy sauce, with a little garlic and chili pepper thrown in. Sounds like yours is waaaaaay sweeter than mine!

Well I am in the south and those southerns sure do love there sweet. I have actually used mirin in the past and it was good garlic too.

And I'd buy mine off the shelf so I wouldn't even know what's in there.

Oh - Update about Tala's mom! She's starting to get better! She's no longer on a respirator. Her oxygen levels are getting better. She was talking fully today on the phone instead of in gasps like when we video-chatted her yesterday! Apparently the hospital she was in for the infection (before the one she got transferred to yesterday) had a humidifier near her and didn't drain her, or something like that. She's planning on suing them (and possibly the insurance company for denying her at-home care when she clearly needed it).

That's awesome. Here's hoping her recovery continues.

I'm definitely the more domestic one in Scint and my relationship. Which is probably for the best, as she has the superior job.

We have a fairly long and involved history: We used to both just leave everything lying around, with GothBard being slightly cleaner than I was. Then at some point in grad school, she asked that I at least pick up my shoes and not leave them wherever they were lying. For some reason, my memory tells me that at that point I started hearing Spirited Away's "Finish what you started," line, and started obsessively cleaning up after myself, but it looks like Spirited Away didn't come out until 2002, and I know I was cleaning obsessively before then.

But we did mostly split things pretty evenly until we moved in with my mother in 2008. At that point GothBard went into hiding, my mother took care of everything, and so when we finally fled back to our own home, GothBard was completely out of the habit of doing chores, so I've been doing everything since 2013. And I'm finally tired of it, and pushing hard to get everyone else to do something every day.

Maybe 2019 will be my year...

Yeah. Shiro tells us legends of how "proper" sweet tea must be a supersaturated sugar concentrate. (You have to get it hot enough that it can absorb all the sugar, THEN let it cool, because it won't absorb enough sugar when it's cool.)

I cannot fathom drinking such a substance. Heck, even pure fruit juice is too sweet for my tastes these days.

Went to a Lego store with the Homunculi on Saturday, to buy them gifts and relive my childhood. I was disappointed to find that most Legos nowadays seem to be IP themed. Lots of Star Wars and Marvel Legos, but no Ice Planet and whatnot.

WTH, Lego.

On the plus side, I got a kick out of the Lego wind turbine IPed to a real company that makes real wind turbines.

Oh, you want to talk IP themed? Disneyland might as well be renamed, "Star Wars and Marvel"land, and they're raising prices to match.

I don't know which saddens me more:

(1) Since we are neither Marvel nor Star Wars fans, we no longer feel any desire to go to Disneyland, in spite of both kids pretty much growing up there.

(2) Our 8-day trip to Hawaii in 2017, including everything (airfare, staying at a luxury resort, doing a daylong trip to the big island, ziplining, and so forth), was all of $2000 more expensive than driving to Disneyland for a 7-day trip. I suspect our 3-week European tour is going to be cheaper than going to Disneyland for a week. And we live in California!

And if sweet tea no longer does it for you, all you're left with is drinking molasses by the pint.

I can't take it QUITE that sweet anymore - tho I sure did as a kid - but my tea is still pretty on the sweet side. A full glass for me - approximately 32 fl.oz. - requires about six packets of pink packet sweetener, for example. Preferably also with a shot of lime juice or a slice added.

Sweetener gets it just as sweet with significantly less volume than sugar, and absorbs just fine into cold drinks where sugar does not.

Oh, GothBard declared that she was going to make her mother's lamb stew, but she's very busy at work right now and she doesn't have the recipe.

So I bought a giant lamb shoulder at Costco and figure I'll take a stab at it.

Anyone have a good Irish Lamb Stew recipe?

Dark Archive

Never had a taste for iced tea. It's not really a thing in Ireland. But I did use to put three lumped spoons of sugar in tea. Tasty goodness.

Don't take any now mind. Taste changed. Still love sugary things, just not tea. Don't drink much tea at all these days either.

The General and I made a pact years ago to NEVER talk about housework.

Our marriage has never been better.

When I was visiting Aruba for work, I went to Hooters. It was fun sharing all the looks with the female staff, and I was curious about the food. I got a glass of cranberry juice, and it was so sweet that I had to have half poured out and water added.

Forgive me for playing Mr. Skeptic, but we didn't talk about housework, and the split ended up being 100/0:

- Shopping
- Cooking
- Dishes
- Putting away dishes
- Laundry
- Folding laundry
- Home repairs
- Kids' homework
- Kids' performances
- Parent-teacher conferences
- etc.

At a certain point, when you find that you've been doing 100% of all housework for several years, and the rest of the family has taken to dropping whatever they have (mugs, dishes, clothes, and even garbage) on the floor wherever they might happen to be, you've reached a point that not talking about it is no longer an option.

So the audiobook narrator who I thought was mispronouncing words, but I wasn't sure because they were all religious words that I'm no expert on.

He's mispronouncing even English words now. 'Advocate' is either a noun or a verb depending on emphasis, and he definitely used the wrong one.

Maybe it's just I'm reading non-best-seller audiobooks, but there don't seem to be any standards for narration beyond "speak clearly."

I think gloomy weather in winter just makes people depressed. And I'm not allowed to drink these days because alcohol is 7 calories per gram so that's sad as well. Sigh. All this stuff about clean living...

Kitty shouldn't be too worried about her waistline…there's being healthy (Gods know I'm not ^^') but there also should be room for a bit of junk in kitty's hindquarters ;p

WTH, Lego.

Think it's a bit of a general surrender to the time.

Lego's being themed was a thing when we where young…but even back then it was more generalized - ie. Lego pirates and 'navy' pieces.
Today, I guess, generalized just doesn't cut in term of marketing.
If you make a generic Lego starship and a Lego Star Wars starship, the latter simply hands you a ton more exposure to your product...
Eh but what do I know...I'm not an expert at marketing ^^'

Generally though Lego then to market to three somewhat distinct (but with some overlap) groups
-> The kidly-widlies/fanboys(girls) with their branded products.
-> And the mechanically inclined and engineering enthusiasts with their complex (generic) motor/computer/technic kind of kits.
-> Last the model kitting community.
Or at least, that my 30 sec take on it...might be more to it of cause.

Hi, Kjel!

Hot tea, two spoon of sugar per glass for me.

I dont put sugar in my hot tea, and prefer my iced tea very lightly sweetened.

I do not put sugar in tea at all, ever - spoils the taste for me.

Today we did more Bartitsu (Edwardian British Mixed Martial Arts)

My braces - US folks would call them suspenders - snapped.

Sad reacts only.

Edit:

Also sorry for the poor editing of my bigger post, a few posts up...

Wish I could be there to help you. If I can, I'd like to visit and bring along some choice anime.

My dad recently inherited a chunk of money from his mother, and he passed a huge chunk of it to me as retro child support, and today I used it to wipe out my biggest student loan with the highest interest rate.

It feels sooo good.

And if everything goes well, I'll only be paying off the rest until I turn 40.

'Grats on that, TS! Great move!

Hey Cover Turtle, sorry about your stress and depression. If you need someone to talk to, I'm all ears. I went through a really bad patch for quite a while, and getting to the other side was heavily influenced by great FaWtL folks on my side.

About to clock out. Good night, everyone.

Already clocked in. Good evening, everyone.

Turtle needs a good wax. I know just the kind of wax to use too. (come on take a guess.)

Yes the tea is Too sweet here I usually have to split it half sweet and half unsweet. Or if lemonade is an option ill Arnold it.

Now green tea I like honey with.

Is it bikini wax? And I still don't drink tea.

Some friends invited me over to play Mansions of Madness earlier tonight. We weren't doing great, and then I went insane and was given a secret objective of "You win if the team loses", so I pretty much stopped helping and let the bad guys win. Which means I won. So, YAY! I won!!

At the end of the day as long as your not working in a restaurant as long as you like it its all good.

Reminds me of shadows over Camelot. So much funner when your the traitor and your way more likely to win as well.

IS it weird That I feel like I have more life experiences then most people and can handle greater challenges because of D&D? Like if a monster invasion happened I feel I could adapt.

I'm not saying I want the plot of Sword Art Online to happen, but I kinda want a Sword Art Tabletop to happen...

...not in the "let's make a tabletop adaptation of SAO" but as in the "we get sucked into a tabletop game and it's real life kinda like how they get sucked into the MMO in SAO" way.

And so very much less 80s. (In response to cartoon show - stupid boards swapped our posts)

Couldn't get into sword art online.

So more like the D&D cartoon series? except probably not the actual personification of the DM telling you to go fight tiamet first thing?

I couldn't get into SAO either, but I know the premise of it. Like My Hero Academia, which I saw a few episodes of but just didn't really love. I think it's because that show was so freaking hyped up by all my friends, and it turned out to be...I guess like a solid B. It seems pretty good, but not nearly as epic as everyone claims. I'll probably watch it eventually, but for now I have other priorities, like catching up on Archer!
