Sidhe="Shee"

I mostly grumble because those kinds of names are really common among Fey, and since I'm running Kingmaker there's a lot of that. Just off the top of my head, recently we've had "Baobhan Sidhe" [Baw-vhawn shee] and "Leanaí-dubh" [Lani-duhv]/"Leanbh-dubh" [Lanuv-duhv]. And there's certain to be more.

Plus reading a fey-heavy book series with a lot of those kinds of names as well.

Naked Sidhe? That could be dangerous... They are capricious an could do things to the peepers.

Yeah... Which requires resisting ensuing hilarity among Polish gamers when meeting it. ("Bałwan")

At least it has a pronunciation guide. Unfortunately it's at the front rather than the back, meaning I see new species listed and start wondering how terrible things are going to get rather than just flipping to the back as needed.

And I am now certified to teach in three states. I remain certifiably insane but undocumented thereof in all fifty.

Sigh. Why must people/things be so difficult?!

Because I like to be. :P

"Saoirse."

You pronounce it.

*SEER-she*, with a short e at the end. Irish. I've got a second cousin named Saoirse.

Nervous for my friend who has just discovered her love of gaming and sci-fi geekdom. Too much "fake geek girl" backlash of late, and it makes it hard for girls to get involved in the various geeky communities. Luckily, she hasn't run into that yet... and when we were talking about it she shrugged it off.

I hope she doesn't run into that.

I've got a 16 year old daughter who goes with me to gaming conventions, or with her friends to anime conventions, and I worry that she is going to run into the people that made me cringe when I went to conventions earlier on.

I didn't mean to kill the thread...

You totally did. Admit it.

Thread-killer!

If it's any help, I definitely won't be attending any cons.

Me neither. Although I might get to a couple of music festivals and beer festivals this year.

Busy day ahead of me...

Going to participate in some psychological research. Two hours of walking, hour of answering questions and two hours of walking back. With a library visit somewhere in between. At least they are paying small amount of cash for that.

Scarab Sages

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Friday!!!

Scarab Sages

It's looking to be another gloriously warm day here in the northeast!

Scarab Sages

Highlights from last night's PF FR game:

- The PCs hoping beyond hope they would be facing a were-cow.

- The warrior Harld, jumping over a fallen tree and straight into the random trap I put on the other side of it - a 30 ft deep pit.

- The same warrior Harld falling into a second pit inside the BBEG's cave lair.

- The same warrior Harld getting nailed by a CR 1 arrow trap for full damage.

- The same warrior Harld getting charged, bull rushed, and knocked back 15 feet into a cave wall by the minotaur elder they were facing.

- Dropping the two big damage dealers to 4 hit points each, with one round of full attacks directed at each.

- Making up the minotaur elder's cave/maze lair as I went along.

Scarab Sages

I could have killed at least two of them, but I always have mercy. It's my weakness as a DM.

Scarab Sages

Although I did almost kill Jess' character in my Crypt of Illusions game at last year's PaizoCon. If only we had kept going a bit longer......

Scarab Sages

Next up for the PCs - they get to investigate where the minotaur might have come from. This will take them to the quiet little town of Liam's Hold - a town which hids a terrible secret.

More Moo, amongst other terrors.

Scarab Sages

The wife stayed home today, meaning I got to come in early. Which further means I get to leave early!

Scarab Sages

Of course, my leaving early will be so I can get home and cut the grass.

Scarab Sages

All right people. Time for me to do some engineering stuff.

cool. I recently took my niece to a con. Her smart assery kept the obnoxious at a distance.

Finnish bureaucracy sucks ass. All I want is some social support in cash, especially when I actually deserve it and am allowed to get it -.-

hi everyone

Generally that's how my daughter deals with obnoxious people too.

Good luck with your research visit, Drejk.

Sorry to hear about your bureaucratic woes, Icyshadow.

Today's monster is a new kaida!

I might run out of ideas for these little dragons, but I haven't yet. :)

Silver Crusade

Morning, all. What did I miss?

Silver Crusade

Yesterday was a long day. I specifically scheduled my client meeting in New Jersey to end early enough in the afternoon to avoid traffic, and it worked - in New Jersey. I managed to hit Brooklyn right as rush hour was getting under way and sat in stop-and-go traffic the rest of the way home. It took 4 hours.

*shakes fist at Brooklyn*

I hope you had an audiobook or something.

Fixed. Thanks!

And thanks to the meeting this morning, getting a much later start to today, so getting off Paizo for a while. Be back later, probably after I finish the journal to last night's KM session on lunch.

And back.

I listened to a short story and had to retell how much of it I recalled. Then I filled a few forms (I must later ask friend if they were there just as a method of passing time) and later I had to retell the story through video-conference and answer the same questions about the story a few times.

After the questions started the second time I suspected that the whole point of experiment is checking if I will succumb to subtle suggestions of the interviewer through the repeated questioning (like "the family in the story had dog or cat?"*). I was right about that - after the fact the interviewer told me that they are comparing how much people succumb to such suggestions on video conference interviews and during live interviews.

*:
There wasn't any information about either. There were more questions suggesting answers that weren't provided in the first place.

Fun times. More proof we've got a terribly dysfunctional party.

I'm tired.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

I'm off to Charlotte for a convention, and I don't know how often I'll be back around these parts. :)

Stay safe badger-man.

And with that, journal is done, and I should get back to work.

You not planning on coming back?
