Got news today that one of the two coworkers that went home a little over two weeks ago (due to concerns about COVID) just tested positive for it. (She lives in a house with two of her daughters who are medical professionals who both also got it.)
To say I'm worried is an understatement, said coworker has beaten cancer (two different types), and was experiencing lung difficulties earlier in the year.
She's a tough Muslim grandmother, who helped me break a two-decade addiction to OTC painkillers.
That sucks for you and your coworkers. Hopefully she gets through this safely.
Also for those of you who are on DaWtL (the FaWtL group on Discord) - or those who want to be (Drejk and I, at least, have been known to give invite codes via PM), I’m planning on a run-it-until-we-fade* PbP loosely based on Final Fantasy conceits. Orthos and TVE are in (Blue Mage and Mimic, respectively), and others here are, of course invited.

Still waiting for this migraine to go away. It's lessened, but not far enough.
Drejk...I never received a service ticket so I'm just going to let you suffer. Besides, since it didn't just start working from Woran's presence (this really does happen - it's no different than taking your car to a mechanic for a mystery noise that suddenly COMPLETELY F*%@ING DISAPPEARS the instant the mechanic is within earshot), or driver reinstalls, then I'm guessing it really is a hardware problem and the camera - or the circuitry leading to the camera - is just shot.
Aeglos - I hope for the best for your wife.
And going back to bed.
The car noise is an example I always use when people's brains go on meltdown because things suddenly work when I look at them.

I keep kicking myself, but it's not like I have a super long commute. Its misunderstanding and my first time working from home. Learning curve, etc. Just trying to recover.

To give everyone an idea of how bad my sense of smell is, I smelled a smell walking into the kitchen and I couldn't figure out until I got back by the laundry room whether I was smelling natural gas or dryer sheets.
It turns out the dryer sheets box fell on the floor in the laundry room and spilled.

Hang in there. Kicking yourself may make you feel better in the short term, but it can be overdone and get in the way of helping others. Even if they are jerk face bosses.
I have to remind myself frequently in my job that there is no pride of authorship - at the end of the day, it is about serving the clients.
Make a note, do better next time and put it behind you.
I probably can pull out a few more cliches, but these seem relevant.
Things could be worse, you could be a varsity collegiate swimmer who has to do laps in a 28 foot pool.

I've read many, many, many articles on face masks, and the general scientific consensus is that properly-worn masks can prevent you from passing the disease on to others, but are nearly useless in protecting you, especially because they cause you to touch your face more, not less. The only time they help is when an infected person coughs or sneezes near you.
There was also a statement that loose-fitting cloth masks are "useless".
And so now we have a county-wide recommendation that we wear cloths such as bandanas over our faces when we go outside because it "can't hurt".
Uh, did you read all the health experts' concerns about people touching their faces more often because they're wearing uncomfortable, ineffective cloth masks?
Yes, it can hurt!
Please don't make recommendations that make things worse. Please!

Howdy FaWtLanteans! Finally managed to catch up on all the posts. My heart goes out to all my fellows here having hard times at the moment. I hope things can improve for everyone soon. Potentially doubtful given the current pandemic, but I'll still be hoping for the best for ye all.

The Emerald Isles are in full lockdown currently, advised not to leave the house unless for essential services. The pubs have all been closed, which should give some indication of how seriously we're taking this. :P The family are all bunkered down in place, and while I am currently under the weather, the symptoms thankfully bear no resemblance to the covid-19 ones. Working from home currently, which isn't really working all that well, but it's better than having to go to the office, or being laid off.

For us, we're now entering the, "Oh, holy carp! You're so well-prepared you need to help other people," phase.
As I mentioned, GothBard's mother has been unable to get toilet paper. Her neighbors have dropped some off, but we may have to make an emergency trip to Half Moon Bay to drop off more.
Of even greater concern is Shiro. His cancer has moved into his lungs, so he is at the highest-possible risk for the virus; it would very likely kill him. Thus, he can't leave the house at all. And he is neither a shopper nor a storer; he's one of those people who always eats out. (He made a funny comment about accumulating way too much money in his bank account because he's not buying hundreds of dollars of restaurant food a week any more.)
So we're likely going to have to make a significant shopping trip for him, do the whole, "Disinfect every item" spiel (and gee, I have a bunch of disinfectant because I haven't been using it), drive down to Fremont, and drop off "emergency food supplies for a friend".
Ah, well, it least it'll give the car some mileage; we haven't driven since the lockdown began, so I suspect the cars could use it.

Thanks man. :) It's been hella busy, between working from home, the new baby suffering from colic, teething, and having to get his first vaccinations, and the mouser being home from school. Also, the wife's scoliosis is acting up, which ain't helping either. So it's been hard to sit down at the computer and catch up on FaWtL. :P Glad I got the opportunity to today though. :)

KS isn't under official lockdown; it's a county-wide patchwork. Governor moved to close schools immediately, but there's been a lot of pushback over it, so there hasn't been a statewide order.
