A bit weird feeling, being the only lone person without either a partner or a kid, with some folks having already two kids. Oh, and I realistically could have been the oldest person present (not sure about three ladies present, though they didn't look 40+, which of course means little). Also, I learned got confirmation that the woman that was the (unrequited) love of my life is pregnant.

well.

I'm sorry, Drejk.

We have a back-up in form of our German cousin.

Brother and sister both here. Which thankfully was enough to get my parents off my back about the subject, not so much every other adult I apparently have to talk about this with.

Apparently the idea that I myself am not interested and never will be interested in children is anathema to some people.

My SO doesn't have anyone else continuing her "family line" at this time, though that may or may not change in the future.

When I was a kid, my parents would always say "Pardon my French" after they swore. It certainly led to an interesting day when my 5th grade teacher asked the class if we knew any French and I raised my hand.

I have 6 more arrivals. A group of some sort that's supposed to arrive in about 90 minutes. And there are still a handful of drunks in the lobby.

Just tell them that you’re a fervent believer in zero population growth, so once they personally kill someone you’ll work on having a kid...

Funniest trip moment so far: Yesterday at dinner, Impus Major was doing his not-so-great Yoda impression. GothBard told him he was banned from doing it until he’d memorized all the words to Seagulls Stop It Now.

We left dinner and walked up the hill to catch a taxi. For reasons unknown, a seagull flew down and hovered right in Impus Major’s face. In his best Yoda voice he cried out, “Ah! Seagull! Stop it now!”

We all completely lost it.

Given they are all firmly religious and highly conservative folks, this would probably cause me more harm and frustration that it would any level of help.

There's a reason I don't talk politics with my family. I like having a place to live.

Whenever I tell the high school laborers at work to do anything they say "Aye Captain!"

The thing is, no one else at work knows about my Paizo Identity (they think RPG stands for rocket propelled grenades, which might also add to my legend ("dude, i heard he plays with RPGs on the weekend" "Is... Is that legal?").

Happy little coincidences are fun.

After my family tried twisting plans I'd spent all week painstakingly planning into something terrible, the General had a realization.

"Oh my god, your family is like the DMV!"

"Now, imagine growing up at the DMV"

She gave a long heartfelt hug after that.

We had a big annual Longears Clan Gathering over the weekend, up in North Yorkshire. All my Dad's four brothers came, as did all but one of their kids, and their kids' kids, so that was a lotta Longears in one place. ALL (DE) and her kids came too.

We had a good time, staying in a sort of hobbit hole, eating a good deal, and going to a lake and an old quarry for lake and old quarry laughs.

My tiny scythe has come, which is good; the part I need to repair the washing machine has not, which is bloody annoying, especially as I got an email yesterday saying it had arrived.

I've been watching a lot of history lately, and Joe Rogan the comedian has really helped me put dates and timeframes in an understandable context. I wish I could find the clip of this bit of his, because in it he's talking about the U.S. founders and how they lives 300 years ago. That seems like a long time, but Rogan pointed out that people can live for a century so really George Washington was only three people ago!

Ever since seeing that bit, history has been so much more relatable. Oh, the first empire the world ever knew began in ~2,300 BCE? Well let's see, that's 4,300 years ago...that's only 43 people ago!

There might be chateaus in France and monasteries in Italy for sale... You could try those...

If you get Shiro to buy a castle in Scotland... I think I could get my parents to move there to work as ground-keepers/caretakers for him...

Though Italy might be the easiest (and cheapest) for me to come for a visit.

Now that I am closer to 40 than 30, people who know my age assume I have a kid with my ex wife or such I don't have near me in college or something.

Those who don't know my age think I AM a kid in college. I literally got asked if I was a student...an hour and a half ago. My old pic online was shitty. I photograph horribly. I'm quite youthful in appearance, even if my mind is cynical enough to make me 87.

I avoid the sun due to my ginger dhampir heritage, don't smoke tobacco, drink alcohol, and was a vegetarian for 8 years. So I have this faerie glamour around people over 40 - but the actual 20 year olds see it. I'm "that kinda cool old guy with all the sweet tattoos" to my weed guy. I'm pretty sure he doesn't know my real name after 6 months.

(Hey, I AM helping pay for a younger person's college! Who needs a scholarship when you know a guy with a girlfriend who has PTSD and needs a steady supply of green for her?)

But I digress - my point I was getting to was before that I was in the Orthos/Djrek/Scint/etc boat. No kids on purpose, and everyone wants to know why. ...and then gets offended when you have the gall to answer "because I'm selfish "
