So I often have little sympathy, but mostly it’s because I’m standing there trying to wrap my head around the idea of not experiencing those problems. Like, there was a time when y’all got out of bed and didn’t hurt all over? For really? I don’t get it. That can’t be real. *shrug* Life with chronic illness. :P

Also we are all still very sick. Kiddo can’t stop shaking and my husband and I spent a lot of time last night in between coughing fits debating how sick we need to be before we go to the ER. We got as far as realizing we were too sick to drive ourselves, not sick enough to forget how expensive an ambulance is. These antibiotics need to work faster dammit!

And unfortunately, aside from running extra tests to confirm whatever bug it is that you have, the ER would only be able to try to break a fever and put you on IV fluids. You can make an ice bath at home if there's that bad of a fever involved and you can drink a ton of water and juice, all for far less than an ambulance and ER visit.
Unfortunately, most diseases are really still at the "sit through it and suffer" even if you're on the correct medication.

You were saying?
But dark chocolate is good for health!
Rubbish, I'm just trying to find justification to eat it.

The health insurance industry, and the industry lobbyists and conservative think tanks that work against the public interest, can take a long walk off a short pier.
It's topics like this that highlight the downside of being a Humanist -- there's no awful afterlife awaiting these scumbags, just the dreamless sleep that awaits us all. >:(
To be fair, if you read the book, Christians don't believe they have a punishment for it either. There's really only one punished crime on the list these days. Very few religions actually use the good vs bad result Hollywood spoon feeds us. Mostly polytheistic ones really.

*SIGH* Some afternoons I really do despise my job.
Could the UI design team please report to my office and explain to me, in detail, why I must write an instruction such as, "Click the Add button in the upper right, not the identical Add button in the upper center, since that one does something different."

I'm confident. I will always admit when I know I'm wrong, but...I don't mean this offensively but I'm rarely wrong with fact recall. I don't have a totally eidedic memory, but if I'm actually paying attention I just can't forget things. It's a blessing and a curse. I can remember weird quirky useless facts, but I've also caught my parents goin at it as a kid. Some things never die no matter how much pot you smoke to kill the memory.
I've caught you misquoting facts before, like saying chewing gum in Singapore gets you caned. I too have one of those better then normal memories and misquoted facts get my goat. I have to correct stuff like that when I see it.

Mine is more hi, I have these conditions that can be successfully managed with medication, thereby saving you money in the long run by keeping me out of the emergency room and preventing the need for these other expensive procedures

Unfortunately, it's not just that insurance company. It's every health insurance company in the US. Health insurance in the US was started under Richard Nixon. All the thoughts you have that combine Nixon and criminal acts also generally apply to how this mess got started.

OK anyway on the flight to the States I was busy adding alcohols to my have drunk before list.
On the trip to Japan to transit, I had a sake and 2 plum wines. Plum wines is awesome!
From Japan to US, I had a rum, a brandy and a scotch. I asked the air steward what was on the alcoholic beverage menu, he said anything I could think off. Probably a mistake on his part as I started getting creative.
I asked him for:
Limoncello
Mead
Plum wine
Which he didn't have.
Was even tempted to ask for Absinthe but that's probably a little too much. Also not sure if it would have flouted US regulations.

Sake and rum taste rather similar though I think rum has higher alcohol content then sake. And rum isn't sweet =(
And of course drinking a rum, a scotch and a whisky in succession after dinner knocked me out(which was sorta the point since I don't sleep very well on flights), though I managed to stay awake long enough to finish watching the second half of Sherlock Gnomes.

OMG! Now I HAVE to have you meet Impus Major!
I think you two are the only people I know who've watched any part of that movie willingly!

What? I like cartoons and funny stuff!
The person next to me was a nice Thai lady who helped me open up the bottle containing the scotch. And helped me keep the snacks they gave while I was asleep.
I usually don't have problems opening up stuff. In fact among my friends I'm sort of their anything opener if they don't want to trouble a guy for it.
That epic fail might be because I was intoxicated.

Voted for (nationally) the Danish Social Liberal Party aka The Radical Left the last couple of years.
Which is a center party in Denmark...Yes really…
Without proper historical context the above might sound bonkers, but it
goes to show another tiny corner of what I was trying to say with my last post...about historical context.

Please get well Lyn and family…
I worry for you, and loath that you're even in a position were you have to debate going to the ER.
If there's anything you think I can do to help, please ask away.

Oh sweet Mort.
*Wipes tears from his eyes*
What I wouldn't give to be with you on that flight! I would love sampling alcohols, trading stories and laughs with such a party cat! :P
There's allmost as many shades of sweetness to Rum as there are brands of Rum ^^ (if you get to place with a wide selection, ask for a 'El Dorado' brand Rum, then tend to the sweeter side of Rums)
What about the scotch and brandy? was any of that to you're taste?

It doesn't help that our market-based insurance industry naturally favors short-sightedness and immediate profit.
With single payer or universal insurance, the government insures virtually everyone for life, so paying a bit of money now to save a lot of money later makes sense. But in the U.S., people are constantly switching insurers for one reason or another, so from an insurer's PoV there's not much payoff to long-term treatment, as each of us could be flushing our premium down some other toilet by the time those long-term savings are reaped.
A good social worker can make an insurer see sense on a case-by-case basis, but otherwise good luck.

The brandy was too harsh but the scotch was fine. Rather smooth and light if I might say myself. Though because of my sweet tooth ill still vote the best drink as plum wine.
I mean they offered white wines as well, but if it ain't a muscato or some sweet desert wine highly likely I'll find it not sweet enough. And I drank more then my fair share in one day. I mean 3 servings of alcohol after lunch and another 3 after dinner?!
Yeah I know better then to exceed 3 in a single sitting.

(1) Plum Wine is awesome.
(2) At Forbidden Island Shiro was doing their "100 rum" challenge where you had to drink a shot of 100 different rums and you'd get your name on a plaque on the wall. They gave you a sheet to keep track of each rum, and some of his comments were hilarious, especially as he got more and more inebriated:
"Girls like this one"
"Makes NobodysHome go away".
"Makes NobodysHome come back".
"Hate in a glass".
Yeah, we never ordered any more of the last one. It was truly one of the foulest alcohols I've ever tasted.
And I was an alcoholic for 10+ years.
EDIT: And for clarity, it's 100 rums EVER, not 100 rums at one sitting.

... The last time some heavy drinker I know took 12 shots of vodka, he lost track of the entire night and was a wreck the next day.
Back when I was in college and used to drink a friend of mine was having a going away party. He was in the Marine reserves and was being activated to go to Iraq. He decided that it was "vitally important" that I get drunk, as I had never been drunk despite my drinking. So, over the course of 4 or 5 hours, I consumed 4 hard lemonades (similar alcohol content to beer), ~6 shots of tequila, ~6 shots of whiskey, ~6 shots of rum (some kind of Brazilian rum that was about 90 proof), ~10 shots of vodka, and so many mixed drinks that I couldn't begin to guess (my friend liked to mix a whole bunch of random liquors with assorted fruits and then walk around with the blender giving everyone a small taste of it). At the end of the night, I felt fine so I drove home, slept for 12 hours, and woke up with a bit of dry mouth but no hangover. That was the most I have ever drank, and it didn't really bother me.

I did say rarely. But you're right there. That was old as hell data I was recalling but it doesn't make it less wrong. As I said I'll freely admit when I know I'm wrong. I was wrong. I appreciate correction. A wise man learns from correction and a fool disdains it. Paraphrased but you get the point.
