I disagree.
Eating your own venison burgers, from a deer you killed, butchered, then cooked, while drinking a beer you brewed yourself, using hops you grew yourself. All while watching football or a John Wayne movie marathon.
Indeed, these are all less manly than watching cartoons with your daughter. But not as manly as having a tea party with her or letting her paint your nails.

Or dressing as Red Riding Hood because you daughter want to be Big Bad Wolf on Halloween.

Yeah. Nothing wrong with original romantic/erotic fiction regardless of gender combination or configuration. But there is strain of yaoi fanfiction commited by underaged girls that have little knowledge of love or sexuality that are quite aggressive in pushing for it, going as far as to complain on non-yaoi works.

You have very strange ideas of manliness. But with your love of the evil snow, I guess I should not be surprised.
It's all good though, I forgive you your imperfections.

Neil Gaiman has written fanfiction AND original stories, both well. Where would that place him?
I just don't get the hate on fanfiction you seem to have. Mind you, I do prefer original works myself and such.

I've somehow managed to avoid the glut of terrible fanfiction out there and the small handful of the stuff I've read has come highly recommended and been mostly very good.
And a great deal of people start out with fanfiction before they come up with an original concept of their own. It's an excellent starting point.
Let people write what they want to write. As long as they aren't breaking laws by trying to make money off someone else's stuff, and as long as it's good to read, I don't care.
It beats no writing at all.

Fanfiction? Never tried it. Then again, it's difficult for me to get into a book by someone I've need read before. Never been big on non-established writers or folks I've never heard of (unless the recommendation comes from a trusted source or sources).
I wasn't always that way, but have gotten more like that as I've gotten older. But a large part of that is the lessening of time to sit and read, so I pick and choose carefully.

Good luck AZ! Hope all goes smoothly.
Looking forward to welcoming the new(est) Paizo Princess! :)
Re: Fanfic, I tend to avoid it myself. Not because I disapprove per se', (I MIGHT have committed one such act myself. Long ago. Or two.) But because there is just SO much gosh-awful out there, it makes it hard if not impossible to find the few rare gems that might be worth reading.
Heck, due to money and time issues, I am even careful about what published books I buy. At one point, I could buy any Star Trek or Star Wars novel off the shelf and know I would be happy. But now, More than one stinker has snuck through the well-intentioned but over whelmed screeners. (DARKSABER anyone?!?) :P

Hence why I tend to stick to recommended links. TVTropes (if you dare) has a list of recommendations from the membership - I think it's hidden somewhere under "Sturgeon's Law", or in their Fanfic subsection, if not both - that for the most part I've found greatly entertaining - particularly a couple of Evangelion fics that I found much, much more entertaining than the actual show (Shinji and Warhammer 40k and Nobody Dies).

nonsense! Fan fiction is where most purple get their start in writing, and there are some Damn good ones out there. It also serves as a community for under appreciated fare.

From what I can gather he does not have that spell, he is one of those secretive people about his character. I blame myself mostly for not purchasing "life insurance" i.e resurrection scroll.
