Anyone got any reccomendations of places where I could get in contact with aspiring fantasy writers? I figured actual talk with peers could help me on my way to the goal I've set for myself.

*Tosses his clothes aside* NEKKID!!

I would avoid places where getting in contact with aspiring fantasy writers involves undressing. Unless you are into such sort of things.

I did not expect him to be brave enough to run around naked...

Also, be warned that aspiring fantasy writers tend to be perverts and decadent lot. Or worse...

*shrug*

Fanfic writers!

I've actually written Touhou and Disgaea fanfiction. No, I am not proud of it.

*sigh* As long as those weren't yaoi fics...

Nope!

Maybe she can watch ponies with FHDM. :)
nothing more manly than a man watching cartoons with his daughter.

I disagree.

Eating your own venison burgers, from a deer you killed, butchered, then cooked, while drinking a beer you brewed yourself, using hops you grew yourself. All while watching football or a John Wayne movie marathon.

Indeed, these are all less manly than watching cartoons with your daughter. But not as manly as having a tea party with her or letting her paint your nails.

Ech, and another thread about sexism diverted with there is sexism against men too to the point where SKR closed the thread.

Or dressing as Red Riding Hood because you daughter want to be Big Bad Wolf on Halloween.

Yeah. Nothing wrong with original romantic/erotic fiction regardless of gender combination or configuration. But there is strain of yaoi fanfiction commited by underaged girls that have little knowledge of love or sexuality that are quite aggressive in pushing for it, going as far as to complain on non-yaoi works.

Either one writes well and should write original stories or one writes badly and should not blemish works of others.

You have very strange ideas of manliness. But with your love of the evil snow, I guess I should not be surprised.

It's all good though, I forgive you your imperfections.

Neil Gaiman has written fanfiction AND original stories, both well. Where would that place him?

I just don't get the hate on fanfiction you seem to have. Mind you, I do prefer original works myself and such.

Because of his tentacles? :)

Yeearghh! How much longer is this frakking butt-coldness supposed to continue? My poor little calico girl no longer has any white fur left; it's all turned a gorgeous shade of Babe-the-Blue-Ox blue.

Pokes head into thread

Yup.

Mergh.

Coldish. Not-working.
Father's work is starting to exhaust him too fast to rest between the days.

Meh.

I've somehow managed to avoid the glut of terrible fanfiction out there and the small handful of the stuff I've read has come highly recommended and been mostly very good.

And a great deal of people start out with fanfiction before they come up with an original concept of their own. It's an excellent starting point.

Let people write what they want to write. As long as they aren't breaking laws by trying to make money off someone else's stuff, and as long as it's good to read, I don't care.

It beats no writing at all.

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Monday! This time tomorrow, the wife and I will be on our way to the hospital! Woohoo!!!!

Almost princess time!

Good luck

Fanfiction? Never tried it. Then again, it's difficult for me to get into a book by someone I've need read before. Never been big on non-established writers or folks I've never heard of (unless the recommendation comes from a trusted source or sources).

I wasn't always that way, but have gotten more like that as I've gotten older. But a large part of that is the lessening of time to sit and read, so I pick and choose carefully.

Scarab Sages

Decorated the house some more yesterday. Borrowed some extra strings of lights from my brother and wrapped them around the two oaks on my front lawn. Tied it all into a solar switch that'll turn it on when the sun goes down.

Scarab Sages

That's nothing compared to my brother's house, though. His stuff is set to music.

Scarab Sages

Another guy in our neighborhood was putting his stuff up last night. He had his garage door open and a big ass TV on with the football game showing.

Scarab Sages

My in-laws arrived yesterday. They're pretty cool.

Scarab Sages

And my supervisor is in New Orleans today and tomorrow. So I won't be seeing him until Thursday, most likely.

Scarab Sages

That's one of the sucky parts about having left government service - I don't have the time to take off three weeks like I did with Charlie. And the policy here at my company won't let me use my sick leave to take off for my wife's recovery. Which is pretty f$$!ing stupid.

Scarab Sages

Luckily, we've got family to help.

Scarab Sages

That reminds me. I've gotta get the car seat installed.

Scarab Sages

And thank the gods I didn't go to the company Christmas party on Saturday. From what everyone tells me, it sucked ass.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, that's all for me this morning. I expect this day to drag very slowly. Y'all try to have good one. Peace and chicken grease.

Good luck AZ! Hope all goes smoothly.
Looking forward to welcoming the new(est) Paizo Princess! :)

Re: Fanfic, I tend to avoid it myself. Not because I disapprove per se', (I MIGHT have committed one such act myself. Long ago. Or two.) But because there is just SO much gosh-awful out there, it makes it hard if not impossible to find the few rare gems that might be worth reading.

Heck, due to money and time issues, I am even careful about what published books I buy. At one point, I could buy any Star Trek or Star Wars novel off the shelf and know I would be happy. But now, More than one stinker has snuck through the well-intentioned but over whelmed screeners. (DARKSABER anyone?!?) :P

So last night's D&D game was eventful.

  • My (multi-classed) Wizard opened a book & got hit with a permanent feeblemind, unless I saved - a 2 didn't cut it. Cue some wag retorting "Oh that wasn't feeblemind, but a Dispel Magic."
  • We managed to distribute some of our potions, after finally getting 6 months XP.
  • The paladin got hit by a clay golem so he's 40HP down which magical healing cannot fix.
  • 1 player send a note/prayer to the GM wanting 'a fancy hat' or some-such, thus rather than us getting teleported home we got dropped in a random cave/dungeon complex.

    Anyway happy monday all.

Hence why I tend to stick to recommended links. TVTropes (if you dare) has a list of recommendations from the membership - I think it's hidden somewhere under "Sturgeon's Law", or in their Fanfic subsection, if not both - that for the most part I've found greatly entertaining - particularly a couple of Evangelion fics that I found much, much more entertaining than the actual show (Shinji and Warhammer 40k and Nobody Dies).

nonsense! Fan fiction is where most purple get their start in writing, and there are some Damn good ones out there. It also serves as a community for under appreciated fare.

From what I can gather he does not have that spell, he is one of those secretive people about his character. I blame myself mostly for not purchasing "life insurance" i.e resurrection scroll.

Hmm... that last pbp-post I made was a bit meh.
