Epic Morthos! Simply Epic!
Filios searches the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
After a few seconds, Solomon recovers his wits and looks at the cleanly sliced skeletal snake thing laying in two pieces on the floor. "Well, I dont know what that was, but it definitely wasnt undead."
You're in a hallway that shows minor signs of battle and rubble blocking both the eastern and western directions.
M Human Ftr3
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Darren shakes the daze off after a few seconds. "Ugh. Sorry, y'all." He looks at the skeleton neatly cut in half. "Who did this? Good job!"
No other bodies left from the prior battle in this hallway?
Surveying the blocked passages, Darren states the obvious: "I guess we'll have to use the elevator."
It looks like this may have been a bastion of sorts so injured came through here, but this particular section doesn't seem to have bore the brunt of the fighting.
Male Dwarf Empyreal Sorceror (Seeker) 1
Well, Morthos is really more of a Gish than a true wizard - all of his spells were selected to enhance his abilities in combat, or his staying power, and his stats scream 'Fighter' more than they do 'Wizard' ;-)
Morthos shrugs.
"Well, if that is all that is down here, perhaps we could look at the final crypt before we go for the elevator?"
Male Elf Rogue Swashbuckler/4; HP: 27/27; AC:20; T: 16; FF: 15; F: 1/R: 8/W: 1; CMD: 20; Init: 6; Perc: 7; Sense Motive: 0
I'm all for it...let's go.
As you enter the crypt, the temperature once more chills out very quickly.
Im sorry, I havent actually been paying attention to which way weve been going or anything like that, as I didnt want to even be tempted to metagame which direction, since Ive played through this before. Anyway...is this the room with the frozen fungus thing, again?
M Human Ftr3
Darren pulls out the alchemist's frost and offers it up. "Would someone with better aim like to throw it? My luck lately, it'll hit the doorjamb, bounce back, and break at our feet."
Male Elf Rogue Swashbuckler/4; HP: 27/27; AC:20; T: 16; FF: 15; F: 1/R: 8/W: 1; CMD: 20; Init: 6; Perc: 7; Sense Motive: 0
I am generally prety good at hitting things - what exactly is my target? I will give it a go!
M Human Ftr3
"The brown mold. It thrives on heat, so the frost might kill it. Hopefully, the treasure in there's worth it."
Male Elf Rogue Swashbuckler/4; HP: 27/27; AC:20; T: 16; FF: 15; F: 1/R: 8/W: 1; CMD: 20; Init: 6; Perc: 7; Sense Motive: 0
Filios throws the Alchemist's Frost at the Brown Mold!
Ranged ATT: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
That sucked balls!
As Filios makes a poor throw, he is saved by the lack of space for the flask to go accept where he wants it to land anyway. As it smashes against the wall above the mold, you can feel the temperature warm up rapidly as the mold withers away and dies. Underneath the mold you find a full wand of hide from undead along with 150 gp of jewelry.
After turning over the wand in his hands for a few moments and passing it on to Morthos to take a look at it he would like, Solomon comments, "Well, this would have come in handy earlier...Hmmph."
Male Dwarf Empyreal Sorceror (Seeker) 1
Morthos shrugs.
"'Twas the will of Torag, Solomon. We managed to pull through, anyway..."
He rubs his hands together in excitement.
"Now, let's take a look at that final shaft, and then get out of here..."
"Aye, that we did." Solomon says, nodding in agreement with Morthos, and falling in line behind the other dwarf.
Going to the elevator, you manage to get everyone down to the bottom after swapping out one of the ropes. You find a hallway that goes south with some rubble blocking it, but more importantly, a wall of stone has been cast across the hall. The signs of the fight that took place are much more visible here. The floor, walls, and ceilings of the hall are covered with blast marks, blood marks, and deep scars in the hard stone. The room itself has a fair number of scars as well, though the worst of them are focused around the hallway.
Male Dwarf Empyreal Sorceror (Seeker) 1
Morthos looks around cautiously...
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22.
"Well, that's that, then. It looks like it is time to go..."
You find some random debris, but nothing of interest. Whatever happened here is long since done, and it looks like forcing a breach in the wall across the hallway would take a considerable amount of doing.
Any way of telling if the stone spell or the blasts appear to be recent?
Male Dwarf Empyreal Sorceror (Seeker) 1
Morthos taps the wall experimentally with the haft of his axe, listening to the echo, before finally nodding, and turning to face the rest of the party.
"Well, whatever is beyond there, it seems to have been solidly walled-off. Shall we head back to the surface?"
Everything down here is covered in a thin layer of dust. It doesn't look like there has been recent activity except the occasional rodent scurrying about.
K
"I suppose so. We arent forgetting anything, are we?"
There's still the apparently bottomless 5 foot shaft going down.
Male Elf Rogue Swashbuckler/4; HP: 27/27; AC:20; T: 16; FF: 15; F: 1/R: 8/W: 1; CMD: 20; Init: 6; Perc: 7; Sense Motive: 0
Well then, are we ready to head topside?
Which set of stairs do you want to go up?
Male Dwarf Empyreal Sorceror (Seeker) 1
Well, I doubt that the Pharasmans are going to react particularly well to our... umm... 'guest', so I would suggest that we go up via the stairs we did not come down...
She does (or did anyway) have the ability to become invisible. If she thinks she can escape detection, we may as well go the way we came in, so as not to attract any undue attention for reasons why we didnt exit the same door we entered through. Either way is fine with me, though.
Going back to meetup with Esme, you find her ready, and after a quick query, she tells you that she does have the ability to go invisible again if that is needed. Going back up the stairs you originally came down, you use the chime to open the door, and find a lower level adept waiting for you who leads you back through the catacombs to the cliff face where you are left to head back up to the cathedral. The early morning sun takes a second to get used to after several days down in the old ossuary.
Male Elf Rogue Swashbuckler/4; HP: 27/27; AC:20; T: 16; FF: 15; F: 1/R: 8/W: 1; CMD: 20; Init: 6; Perc: 7; Sense Motive: 0
Ahhhh...good to be above-ground again!
"Out of the crypt? Yes. Above ground? Not so much."
Male Dwarf Empyreal Sorceror (Seeker) 1
Morthos nod in agreement, before turning to Filios with a twinkle in his eye.
"I could not have put it better myself, Solomon!"
"I'm not sure above ground is a distinction that matters much in Kaer Maga, to quite honest. Where do I need to go to meet your friends? I don't think the church really wants to talk to one of Tripe's old pals." You hear Esme say from around you.
Male Human Urban Ranger/1
Well, once we get out of the church, we'll head to my friends.
You're not in the church, you're on the cliff face on the path that leads from the church to the ossuary.
Male Dwarf Empyreal Sorceror (Seeker) 1
Morthos shrugs.
"Not being from around here, I cannot direct you myself. Petvar? Can you provide directions?"
Male Human Urban Ranger/1
Does anyone remember if we were to be paid by the Pharsman's?
If there is nothing further needed form the church, Petvar will lead the way to the Duskwarden's main buidling.
They did promise pay, yes.
Male Elf Rogue Swashbuckler/4; HP: 27/27; AC:20; T: 16; FF: 15; F: 1/R: 8/W: 1; CMD: 20; Init: 6; Perc: 7; Sense Motive: 0
We definitely need to collect payment from the Pharasmans.
M Human Ftr3
How about Petvar excuses himself to report to the guard (but really to take Esme to the Duskwardens) and the rest of us remain to collect payment and let the Pharasmans know what we found.
Male Elf Rogue Swashbuckler/4; HP: 27/27; AC:20; T: 16; FF: 15; F: 1/R: 8/W: 1; CMD: 20; Init: 6; Perc: 7; Sense Motive: 0
Petvar and Esme split off from the group to report to the Dusk Wardens as the others move up to the cathedral to collect their pay and report their findings. A service is just finishing as they step into the nave and it takes a few minutes to get noticed by the clergy, but after only a short wait, you are led into the high priestess' office where she and Mistriss Valanthe await your report.
"Well, we're back. Killed everything down there, includin the alchemist."
Male Elf Rogue Swashbuckler/4; HP: 27/27; AC:20; T: 16; FF: 15; F: 1/R: 8/W: 1; CMD: 20; Init: 6; Perc: 7; Sense Motive: 0
Indeed...I believe that some compensation is in order?
Male Dwarf Empyreal Sorceror (Seeker) 1
Morthos nods.
"We also have a collection of religious artefacts, which I believe the Church might be interested in..."
After a bit of prodding to get the details out of you, they seem satisfied. The various religious artifacts they are willing to pay extra for, but it will take a few days to process their proper value, and they have your promised pay of 100 gp each plus 50 gp more each for clearing out the monsters. The Sihedron door brings both great interest and slight concern to their faces, but they say nothing further about it
Do you mention the presence of the various other orders or the tengu tomb raiders that you came across, the Iridian Fold armor, or the Sihedron amulet?
Solomon does not, though he does make sure that he and Darren both don their original armor before they exited the ossuary...dont want to forget to turn over that stuff, or for Darren to get jumped for wearing it cause its special or something else that I might be remembering wrong.
Edit: Also, if we didnt already get our hearts switched back ot the right sides of our chests, then I suggested we do that also, before we left the ossuary, lol.
That pretty much wraps up the adventure. It's been fun playing with you guys. I hope you enjoyed it as well.
