Our household has two legal hard copies of the core rule book, and one legal pdf copy of the core rulebook. We have three players. Until we needed two accounts for PaizoCon, we have always purchased using my account so the pdf is in my name. Does this mean that the other two players in my family cannot use a laptop with the pdf on it?

For the purposes of your private game at home, every single person could use a laptop with a copy of that pdf and you would still be totally fine. Just don't distribute it beyond your home for profit or not.

Distributing isn't very likely. My kids call me the Pirate Nazi when it comes to illegal downloads. I'm good at home; the books are there, and I've got the laptop behind the GM screen. But we have tickets to PaizoCon this year, and I'm looking at getting involved in some PF Society stuff before then. Lugging books can be a pain. Lugging books for two(for PC) or three(for PFS stuff) is a bigger pain.

I'd rather fly than drive so space is limited. So at PaizoCon, if we take one book and one laptop, can my husband use the pdf with my name on it? In California, I'm fairly sure that half of that download is his anyway.

Is this accurate? I thought Paizo's statements on this matter, and their interpretation of this was that the PDF is a license for the use of a single PDF, not a license to copy onto 5 machines in your home, allowing everyone simultaneous access.

Our official position is that we recognize the need for GMs to sometimes share portions of materials they've purchased from us with their gaming group, but they need to do that responsibly, since they're ultimately responsible for the security of their own files, and are liable for potential issues that may result. Generally, we'd suggest that GMs print out relevant portions and share those, and avoid sharing actual digital files.

Our lawyer would probably suggest that we not state exceptions to that general policy.
