The first printing of Deities and Demigods included The Melbornian, Grey Mouser, and Lovecraftian Mythos. I have that book. They removed all that in the later printings. Note that The Black Goat in the Woods with 1000 young was turned into a weird protoplasmic pool that did not match the books. The rest of the creatures were pretty good.

Actually, the Newhon stuff stayed in later printings.

(I have copies of both versions; the Gray Mouser himself is on p.97 in the one that includes the Cthulhu and Melnibonéan mythoi, p.82 of the one without Cthulhu or Melnibonéan mythoi.)

Not just asian style monsters but also creatures from the myths/legends of the Americas, Aaustralia, and Africa.

Some non-magical contructs would nice.

Monsters that use art, music, and/or dance as a weapon

Creatures that resemble or actually are toys, weapons, art objects, etc.

Which books? Shub-Niggurath never got a description in anything that Lovecraft wrote. He only ever invoked it's name, it never figured into any stories beyond that.

I bow to Kthulhu's greater, and mind shattering, understanding. :)

(Hoop Snakes and Jackalopes?)

(Robots? or gear driven wind up knights? There are technoCreep issues here)

Monsters that use art, music, and/or dance as a weapon
(My version of the Purple Dragon uses Bard spells. It has a sonic breath weapon and is very vain, even for a dragon.)

Creatures that resemble or actually are toys, weapons, art objects, etc.

I have a baby mimic in The Cleaves. It poses as a dagger, then sword, till it gets big enough to attack it's owner.

Spider Goblins.

I would also love more fey, since I like doing fey-oriented adventures.

Goatfolk would be nice.
Other than that...really, a lot of the best stuff was covered in the first one.

This thread is awesome.

Non-golem constructs

3. Vampire/Lich lords, to echo Kain Darkwind.

*Cracks open AD&D Monstrous Manual*

4. Deepspawn--how awesome? So awesome.

5. Death Knights

6. Gargantua (reptilian, humanoid, incectoid)

7. Ki-rin

10. Video game monsters!

Several of the OGL epic monsters would make really good Tanes.

EDIT: I seem to recall a three-headed chameleon cat, for example...

YESSSS!!!!

Also, the apsara, a dancing celestial maiden sent by the gods not just to battle evil, but to seduce high-level monks into abandoning their lawful ways. She's a perfect way to introduce conflict between Lawful party members and Chaotic Good outsiders. Plus she's a nymph, a succubus, and a valkyie, all rolled into one creature. You just can't lose.

Oh yeah I remember the Gargantua(humaniod, reptile, and insect) or as I like to call them, King kong, Godzilla and Mothra. I would like something like them at least or like I said before about the "Kaiju" template.

The Apsara would be cool, but I would like them to be fey.

Ki-rin would be awesome but it would have to be at least a CR 15.

More Tanes please.

Apsaras dwell in one of the heavens in Hindu mythology. The reason they seduce lawful sages is because their ascetic practices (read psionics given the specific powers gained) gather magic power. When the Hindu mythology was a closed system, this took power from the gods. Later this became less of a big deal when the creation opened up.

They also have a parallel in the Tantric Dakinis, but these creatures inspire enlightenment through their sensuality, instead of distracting from it.
Since both serve gods or philosophical principles they ought to be celestials. The Yakshinis (who are less exalted but similar) make better Fey, in my opinion.
I discuss this a little in my Vudra thread/pontifications...

The Wizard of Wor is a hovering construct that shoots a fireball every round. Fortunately it's move is 10. It didn't have very many hit points. Maybe 5D6.

There's a number of things I'd like to see. Note that I really enjoy custom monster creation (e.g. via templates, etc.), so by definition templates are great for me.

  • Templates, especially ones that grant cool, cinematic abilities or that are stackable - the swarm shifter from Libris Mortis is a good example of the former, and the evolved undead from the same book is an example of the latter.
  • Take a look at the Dicefreaks templates for things like ghosts, death knights, etc. They allow for a lot of variation by defining different power levels for such creatures, so that the quantity and capability of the creatures' abilities vary as the creature gets more powerful.
  • Races of creatures, with variations. Examples: the ethergaunts, the formians, etc. These allow for a great variety, both in encounter locations and in encounters themselves.
  • Daemons, demons and devils - never enough of these. Be nice to see qlippoths, too.
  • More creatures native to other planes such as shadow, positive and negative.
  • Lovecraftian creatures. They don't even have to be strictly from the canon materials - anything along those lines (the gibbering orb is an excellent example) is great.
  • More from the epic level SRD. I'd love to see colossi, umbral blots, uvuudaum, a devastation vermin template (rather than specific types), etc. But of course, everyone knows I'm partial to epic challenges :)

What I'm hoping not to see are unique creatures. If there's only one of something, that belongs in a setting book, not a bestiary.

A couple of new abilities I'd like to see show up are:

  • Creatures with a hit point pool (like the scouring stanchion)
  • Creatures with a synergy bonus to offense/defense (like shield devils)

Also, I'd like more creatures that can counter a druid's wild shape. Could very well be one out there other than the balhannoth, but I'm not aware of it.

I'm not sure if the bestiary would be the right place, but I would love to see some sort of cinematic "template" that raises a creature's CR a lot, but allows it to use more than one standard action. It would be great for scenarios in which you only want one enemy to challenge your party effectively, such as boss fights. Granting extra HP and a bonus to saves would also be great.

More kind of Ghosts. A replacement for Death Knight - and something freaking scary, maybe made to be the best with Antipaladin levels.

Templates (but avoid bloating)

Powerful Fey. Something on the line of the Hoary Hunter, Wild Hunt...

And.. never go wrong with Fiends!!!

I would like to see at least 8 new dragons. I really like the old crystal dragons (sapphire, amethyst, etc.) and the Mystara versions (ruby, onyx, etc). I know that they were not considered open game content. So how about versions of dragons that are inspired by them instead of being updated copies.

Also I would like to see some new undead monsters and some more monsters to add to the summon monster tables. It would be nice to be able to create a wizard who only summons one type of monster.

Not bad for a "feyfolk" (0-HD fey) monster, actually.

IIRC, 3.5 Frostburn had the Uldra, playable fey. Don't know if the two names are related, but I think is very likely.

Also, a fey version of Oread (in the same line of Nereid and Dryad), with fey HD and fey powers. Maybe called with the other Oread name, Orestiad.

Orestiads were associated with Artemis.. so it could be cool associate them with Wild Hunts, maybe, or at least hint some relation!

EDIT: BTW, apparently, there is a laundry list of nymphs:

Spoiler:

* Alseid
* Auloniad
* Crinaeae
* Dryads
* Hamadryads
* Hesperides
* Limnades
* Meliae
* Naiads
* Napaeae
* Nereids
* Oceanids
* Oreads
* Pegaeae

I second the huldra! (But I think it should be fey).

Here are some I would like to see:

  • Actual Awakened Animal template with help on running intelligent animals (armor/weapon/spell use)
  • Monopod
  • Hawk-Folk Race that can fly
  • Sidhe
  • Swanmaiden
  • Incubus
  • Changeling (mythological)
  • Erlking
  • Mantis-folk
  • Scorpion-folk
  • Jackalope
  • Bogey Man
  • Tatzelwurm
  • Cat-folk
  • Hoop Snake
  • Drop Bear
  • Sasquatch
  • Bonnacon (real folklore monster, you have to look this up to believe it)
  • Clockwork-folk (different types based on Platonic solids)
  • Mara
  • Cheshire Cat
  • Velociraptor Swarm (the small-sized ones)
  • More Linnorms
  • Golem, Bubble
  • Golem, Vegetable
  • Vampire Roses
  • Phooka
  • Squirrel-folk
  • Fox-Folk
  • Flumph
  • Sea Scorpion
  • The Wild Hunt
  • Fetch
  • Tin Cyborgs (like Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz)
  • More creatures from the Frank L. Baum’s Oz books
  • More creatures from Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass
  • More Tane! They sound interesting and I want to see more.
  • Elemental Weird (if not IP)
  • Really big giants (like gargantuan and colossal)
  • All 9 orders of angels (Seraphim, Cherubim, Ophanim, Dominions, Virtues, Powers, Principalities, Archangels, and Angels)
  • More True Dragons (i.e. Orange, Purple, Yellow, Nickel, Iron, Mercury)
  • Rules and templates for making even more advanced creatures
  • In general, I also want to see more mythological/folklore/cryptozoic monsters.

Bestiary 1 was well done, Bestiary 2 was fantastic! Keep up the good work.

Please no oriental monsters. I would rather see them all in their own book with a campaign setting.

Yay Hoopsnake!
By the way, I found the tiny version of Oriental Adventures and it had no Kitsune in it. It had foxfolk in with the other spirit folk but that's it..

Can I put my hand up and say that rather than a whole slew of anthropomorphic animal races, could we instead just get a template we could apply to animals to anthropomorphise them (I'm aware that's not a verb, but you get the gist).

I actually would like to see Oriental monsters in with other monsters in the Bestiary, monks are part of the core game and having the occasional oriental monster can help further anchor such a character into the game. (We already have Ogre Mages after all).

Well, since the developers are apparently watching this thread VERY CLOSELY, I'll just point out that my wish, along with a discussion on it and various implementations, can be found here.

I know that I have already posted my official wish list, but I have to chime in again and throw in another vote for the linnorms.

Primordial dragons favored perhaps by ancient powers = awesome.

Good idea, but I don't see how a template like that would work. So you have elephant-folk and mouse-folk using the same template? It seems like there would be too many variables to consider.

Quote:

A necessary carry-over from the d20 SRD. Some monsters are just too tied into their culture to be separated without looking like a fish-out-water. Monks do not have to be oriental themed. A greco-roman wrestler could use the monk class without changing a single thing.

I really want to see an oriental campaign with its own bestiary separate from the "western" campaign world.

Fully awakened animals are also known as Ferrals.
They can talk, stand up straight, and have thumbs so they can use tools.
They retain most animal traits. Four legged speed will go down. Flying will go down one maneuverability class. Foreclaws become a smaller dice. Minimum one point. Although intelligence becomes 3D6, Cats and Foxes retain their high stealth.
That's right, I am ok with Foxes having high stealth even though their intelligence is restricted now. That's called a compromise.

Has anyone said Living Wall yet?

I'm saying it. Living wall!

Basically it is an undead wall that absorbs every creature it kills, and gains all their abilities. Imagine a huge wall of dozens of mangeled bodies all attacking and casting spells at you simultaneously

More animals- Moose, Jaguar, Roe Deer,

Cryptos- the Nandi Bear, Sasquatch, Wild Men,

Extinct Mega Fauna- Unitherium (what a war beast!) Smilodon, etc.

Honestly, the template system makes it pretty easy to home-brew anything one would want...

Shadow Lodge

Byakhee
Chthonians
Colours Out of Space
Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath
Deep Ones
Dholes
Dimensional Shamblers
Elder Things
Flying Polyps
Great Race of Yith
Insects from Shaggai
Mi-Go
Moon-Beasts
Nightgaunts
Star Spawn of Cthulhu

Also....

Abominations
Demilich (template, not the demilich construct)
Lavawight
Paragon Template
Pseudonatural Template
Shadow of the Void
Shape of Fire
Umbral Blot

Hazard: Flux Slime

Some might need to wait on your take on epic rules.

I think they already have something like this in the Advanced Bestiary from Green Ronin? A 'Bipedal' template for, well, magical beasts gone bipedal (like worgs and manticores) and a 'Manimal' template for anthropomorphic beasts.

What about Cerberus the giant three headed dog from Greek mythology. that would be sweet

Scarab Sages

Monsters I would like to see include:

Cerberus, the three-headed hound of greek mythology and his get
Typhon and Echidna

Robots -- I would love to see these. An entire line of robots (security, medical, war, death machine, recon, aquatic, etc.) would be great -- everything you need to trick out a crashed transdimensional starship.

We have only one directly Aztec mythological monster so far (the couatl) and its a good guy. Some others like the ahuizotl and the civatateo would be welcome.

Another orphaned monster, the rakshasa, also has some interesting cultural cousins -- the vetala and the pisacha.

More cryptids and prehistorics are always cool. In particular the megalania, dimetrodon, and the paraceratherium seem interesting and iconic.

Regardless, keep up the great work,
Gary

Well... Lets see....

* More Elementals (I love those things and a Paizo Weird would be awesome)

* I would like to see something like Draconic Centaur's

* More true dragons

* More of the Daemons... Love those little guys

* More Proteans!!!! they make excellent Side Lines, what the heck are these guys doing here, Bad Guys

* All the still unconverted AP Beasties

* More Undead (High CR and Low)

* More Fey (So many to choose from)

* and finally some more aberrations, can't get enough of em

* and maybe... just maybe... monster Prestige classes (or templates like them...)

Ahuizotl is in Pathfinder 34. Cerebrei (3 headed hounds of Hell) are in Pathfinder 28.

Typhon and Echidna would be cool, but would more than likely be epic level. love creatures from mythology, something Wizards lacked in there beastairies, well one of them anyway.

Vetala and Pisacha sound interesting, but if I had to pick, I would much rather have more types of rakshasa.

More fey, dragons, giants, etc.

Silver Crusade

Would still love to see Oroboros touched on, but I can't imagine quantifying THE Oroboros. Maybe some sort of echo/avatar/aspect/etc....

There's a valley named after it in either Elysium or Nirvana, so I would love to see a celestial connection there, but it would work great as an Aeon-related being too. Or the keketars....

Silver Crusade

On alien celestials:

Azrael - "In one of his forms, he has four faces and four thousand wings, and his whole body consists of eyes and tongues, the number of which corresponds to the number of people inhabiting the Earth. "

Merkabah - Well I was going to copy paste the description but it's too huge and I honestly got dizzy taking it all in. They appear like people with four faces but they also appear as interlocking wheels with four wings each.

Dragon78 wrote:

That was the purpose of the Parragon template or, at least, one of the purposes). You can play with Chimeras all around, but if you want THE chimera, slap on in the Parragon template.

Of course, the real question is, overall:

"is better have low CR stats for monster, because is easy make them stronger advancing them, or the other way around?"

Dark Archive

My current general list of what I'd like to see, going from most downwards-

More Inevitables
Asuras
Oni
More Kytons
I like the inhuman angels / celestials suggestion from this thread
Formians
Kami
Yokai
Tien Dragons
Other Asian monsters in general
Graveknight
Gigases
Divs
Robots
Clockworks
I like the life / time / positive / negative elemental suggestion
More Tane
More Golems
More Devils
Templates
Assorted LN Outsiders
Creatures from the Elemental Plane of Earth
More Aquatic Monsters
More Fey
More Oozes
More Plants

Dark Archive

If the Ettin, Cyclops and Athach didn't have such different base stats, it would be amusing to make a template for giants called 'Formorian' and sweep them all under it.

Making them all default to a Hill (Stone, Frost, Fire, Cloud, Troll, Annis) Giant 'chassis,' and then add the extra abilities that come with being cyclopean or two-headed or extra-armed would be funky.

me want :
div (many)
The Monsters From Dieties and Demigods are OGC? ( if. then the greater Cyclops if not your own spin on it).
Fomorians (with balors eye as artfact.)
More fey(never enough)
Maybe if you can get WotC to let you have them : the ethergaunts and the gigant
More linnrom
Giant vultures(Huge CG Mountain/desert guardian with a dry Laconic wit)
More Dinosaus
Giant sloth
nightgaunts

The Giant sloth(Megatherium) is in the beastairy II.

The Greater cyclops is in one of the kingmaker aps.

Yes, I agree, can never have too many Fey
