Kingdom Building Questions

How many buildings can you build in a single improvement phase?

I will ask other related questions in this thread as I come up with them. Our group is finally starting to break into the Kingmaker stuff and we are dreadfully confused about a number of things.

Also, to promote better understanding of Pathfinder's Kingdom Building rules, I have started a Kingdom Building Walkthrough thread over on the Kingmaker Product boards. I urge you to participate, as it may help future "Kingmakers" better understand how everything is supposed to work.

Roads cost double when built over rivers because you have to build a bridge.

Is this always the case when you build a road on a river hex? Or does it only apply when you want the road to actually CROSS the river?

I may not always want a bride across the water, so I shouldn't have to pay the extra cost, right?

If I can do this, and I later decide to build a bridge in that hex (with the road alongside the river), do I just pay the difference in BP costs?

The rules don't specifically answer that one, its whatever you and your DM choose to say.

Personally, as a DM, i don't have a problem with allowing the option for my group.

Thanks!

There's a chart in RRR, with the information on buildings per improvement phase. If you have access to it, it's there - otherwise, ask your GM.

NEW QUESTION: During step 3 of the Improvement phase, it says you can destroy buildings to make space.

Does destroying a building and replacing it with a different building count against the "new buildings per month" limitation?

I believe you can destroy as many buildings as you want. However, replacing it with a new building would be building a new building, which counts against your limitations.

Could you maybe lower that past your avatar and add some commas, semicolons, or other divider so it is more readily readable?

You may want to check out the Book of the River Kingdoms products from Jon Brazer Enterprises. One is a re-packaged compilation of the Exploration and Kingdom Building rules from the Kingmaker AP, with flowcharts. If your GM doesn't want to hand his books around for fear of spoilers in the adventures, these may be good alternatives. The second volume gets into the Mass Combat rules that come up later.

I do not know if there are any plot spoilers in them, though I expect there should not be as they are the extracted rules. Check the reviews, though, first.

I bought them a few hours ago.

There are no spoilers (unless you count random event descriptions as spoilers), however, the product designer took some liberties with the phrasing of the rules in some places.

NEXT QUESTION: If my edicts show that I have only one festival per year, thereby gaining 1 Loyalty and 1 Consumption, does building an Arena in my city actually reduce the consumption for the Festivals edict to 0? Or is it a minimum of 1?

I'm thinking it rounds down to 0, as that is the default rule in Pathfinder, but I'm not sure.

Good question. I'd say the minimum is 1, since it makes no sense that you would never spend any money to throw a party. But there is no hard and fast rule.
