Greyhound bus line

Looks like $58 will get you a Greyhound bus round-trip ticket from Toledo to Dayton (the bus station is in Trotwood, 21 minutes NW of the University of Dayton proper) if you schedule it and pay in advance.

You're going in the opposite direction from me so I won't be able to assist.

Thanks Doug. I will research that.

And Pain you picked one of my favorite mods to run lol

Color me excited. I get really happy when the judge is excited about running the mod and likes it. I look forward to the pain.

Yes. I am quite upset that I can't be there to properly smash your face in. If I were, I would be expecting a "Painlord's Guide to Surviving Kyle's Table." ;-)

Have fun, and don't let intimidate you. He's a big softy, Thea's the real killer.

Ah crickey. A post for that? I accept thy challenge.

=======Painlord's Guide to Surviving Kyle's Table=======

So, you poor poor sucker, you've been assigned to Kyle's table in a PFS module. You're probably wondering how to survive? The way I see it, you have two options:

1) Tear up your character sheet now and start building that awesome melee gnome sorce/druid that you've been dreaming up, OR
2) Use one of my handy-dandy, time-tested methods to suck up the pain like a true Pathfinder and live.

Your choice, choose your trix:

Dwarven War Strategy:

Also known as the Cayden Cailean Gambit, this one involves lots and lots of your favorite booze.
Step 1) Drink.
Step 2) Drink again.
Step 3) Drink again.
Step 4) Roll a die. If you can read the number, drink again and go to step 2. Otherwise go to step 5.
Step 5) Assuming you can no longer read the numbers on your dice, nor walk in a straight line, nor likely to remember the next 4 hours, you are ready to sit at Kyle's table, go to war, and/or test to ascend to godhood. After all, if you don't remember it, anything you wanted to have happen probably did...and it's all good!

Outrunning a Dire Bear strategy:

Much like any predator, Kyle is only out for a quick meal. Sometimes you need to bring your gaming experience into real life use...like when being chased by a dire bear, all you need to do is outrun the lame Oracle and you'll get away.

Play with other players who are more annoying than you. Sure, just stack your table with whiners and crybabies and make yourself look less like a target.

This also applies to playing with characters that are weaker than you...stack your table with 8 con wizards and melee rogues. Watch as Kyle's bloodlust is satiated on your fallen comrades while you weasel your way to your chronicle!

Wargames strategy:

What makes this strategy work so well is that a computer thought of it *and* it was in a movie. The strategy simply is this: "The only way to win is not to play."

Yep, go to another table or maybe take this slot to make sure all your paperwork is in order. You never know when the next judge will do a full audit...

Awesomely Bad Play strategy:

This strategy is difficult to master, as just the attempt to master is usually disqualifies you from using it. But don't worry, it's been used successfully by bad players for years...so it could work for you!

All you have to do is harness the amazing luck that bad players get when they manage to get someone else killed, usually due to their bad play. Feel free to blunder into traps, avoid accidentally being useful by flanking enemies, and demand healing from others because you're too lazy to get your own.

This strategy is enhanced if you have other good players at your table (especially if they are playing Paladins) who will sacrifice their characters to save you.

Somehow, despite all your bad play and bad decisions, you'll win, much to the disgust of your fellow players.

Anyone else have a strategy to share?

Is it wrong that I'm looking forward to this? (probably)

That gives me an awesome costume idea for Gen Con. I wonder what players will think when they get assigned to a table with a GM holding a scythe?

Looks like I may be able to make it friday night after all.

Doug any scenarios from that slot still need a GM?

And do you still have me down to run Master of the Fallen Fortress and Darkest vengeance? If not I'd gladly play them. Ive GMed both before but never played them.

the warhorn site -- BASHCon stuffs.

Thea is correct, all slots have been covered save for two of the last Sunday slots. You are welcome to come play, and if there's any overflow I can always use some volunteer GMs for back-up. If you do GM I'll give you a badge refund.

14 days *bounce bounce bounce*

The Exchange 3/5

BashCon is one week away and already the nightmares have started.

I am too old and too weak for this. I will inscribe my nightmares here in hopes that this action will help purge their memory from my mind and allow me peace. Sadly, I do not expect this to work, for my visions have taken to a life of their own.

I also hope those of this board will hear of my tale and help me interpret these nightmares so that I may find a cure.

Nightmare the First:

The flail has 5 stars. And the monster, nay...the *demon*, who wields it shows no mercy nor any sign of slowing in his desire to maul me. The demon chases me without remorse, the 5 stars in his flail matching the 5 stars that decorate his unholy symbol.

The demon is madness, born to judge and cast verdicts on others. Relentless it comes at the stroke of midnight, a maniacal mauler of me, the innocent.

I run, but I cannot outrun 5 stars. No words would slow it, no voice could halt it. It has 5 stars. I am caught. I am beaten. I scream and no one cares.

As the demon dines upon my flesh, a gnomess and a man in dusky armor look on, laughing.

Then I awake, screaming.

The Exchange 5/5

5 days away ... massive con recovery/con prep mode after Gamicon, but super excited about BASHCon

*pops NyQuil and heads to bed*

The Exchange 3/5

Nightmare the Second:

I brought this accursed vision upon myself. For it was I, in my dreams, who opened the safe that reeked of brimstone. I unleashed the horrors within and the devilish inhabitants seem happy to dine upon my bones.

I had thought to find safety and succor within the vault, but I had taken madness upon myself. And now the vault was open and the monsters within did pour out.

Gnomes. And more gnomes. And yet more copies of the same gnome. And endless army of gnomes. Repeated and repeating gnomes spew forth, chanting endless:

I'm a Gnome! with a *rawrrrrrrr* and a *nose wiggle*.
I'm a Gnome! with a *rawrrrrrrr* and a *nose wiggle*.
I'm a Gnome! with a *rawrrrrrrr* and a *nose wiggle*.
I'm a Gnome! with a *rawrrrrrrr* and a *nose wiggle*.

I run, but the gnomes give chase. I cannot escape. They are gnomes.

As the gnomes rip my flesh from my body with fingers and teeth, a demon and a man in dusky armor look on, laughing.

Then I awake, screaming.

Hrmm .. nothing says you can't blow off the UP cause it'll be cold, and you said you'll have to learn how to skate again .. you could be inside all nice and warm and happy killing characters in rebals again.

The Exchange 3/5

Nightmare the Third:

I am told to seek haven in the city chapel, but this city has naught but strangers. I look for a friendly face, but find none. The sun is going down.

I find the chapel at dusk, seeking safety with the knight who resides there. I hear him, but cannot find him...his armor shadows against the darkening night sky and see only stars where he would be.

I call for him, looking for safety before the night becomes full. He mocks me, mocks my need for safety. Yet again, I call for him...now twofold in my desperation. He finally responds...with his greatsword. And it leads to my demise.

As the knight beheads me, a demon and gnomess dance upon what will be my grave.

Then I awake, screaming.

I do not sleep.

LOL...yes there have been a few players that skipped over 3E/4E. Prior to playing Pathfinder this weekend, the last time they played "D&D" was then it still had TSR on the binding.

Dark Archive

Thank you everyone at BashCon! I had a great time playing this weekend.

I had the honor of playing at Painlord's table. I loved the setting. We slogged through many webs and our boots were covered in mire. In the end...the "good guys" were found to be treacherous scoundrels. They were shown no mercy.

I like the blurb that you wrote on my chronicle sheet too. I'm sure that will make it easier to recall details about the scenario down the road. Sometimes when I look back at my chronicle sheets I think, "Which one was that??"

Dark Archive

Also, I must apologize to Bob for summoning that Mirror Image the round before the crit was confirmed. I would have been honored to be your first PC kill. :) Calistria was looking after Tarn that night.

The Exchange

Wanted to say thanks to all the great Judges that ran at Bash-Con this year. My first time playing in the society and I had a blast, literally my alchemist had a grand time blowing everything up. Doug I have another friend up here in Mi interested in getting involved. I'm going to help him with his character and than we will try to coordinated a time to get together with the rest of the people up here. Thanks again all.

The Exchange 3/5

Ah yeah!

I had a great time...and barely hardly died at all (just my soul a little bit).

Met and talked to both Thea Peters and Twi-Li-Night...two wonderful and fun people to know and good to hang out with. It was a pleasure.

Was judged twice by 5-star, aka DougBot5000, and enjoyed both modules. It's good to step away from one's usual environments and see how things are done by others. Yeah, I took notes.

I met MoFiddy and Kobywan79 and realize that there are good, fun, quality Pathfinders everywhere. It made me happy to see such astute and balanced players in the Society.

Good times. Really worth the trip.

Made it home at 11 last night -- long west drive home, but a fun con for sure. Great to meet all the new people... Pain is a hoot and a fun fun person to have sitting at your table... my "Kyle Baird Dice of Doom" didn't wreck much havoc over the weekend so it was all good.

The Exchange 5/5

I would like to thank all the GM volunteers who helped out at BASHCON this weekend. As usual they make me look good and cover for my mistakes. I would like to recognize my volunteers here; Nancy Ludden, Thea Peters, Painlord, Twilight Knight, Ted Fletcher, Jeff Zabel and Chris Kaiser. We ran a total of 26 tables, which was double what Dennis Wheelock & I ran last year. Everyone had a good time and then we had to drive home in a sleet storm :(

We made it home at 11PM also, which was the earliest I got to bed all weekend. They closed I-75 north through Detroit due to all the spin-outs. Fortunately I had company while poor Thea only had her iPod.

Lol my Ipod rawks .. it sings to me and I sing back ...

about 1/2 way thru Ohio we drove out of the snow and it was just rain so it wasn't horrible .. Tho about 2 minutes on the expressway and we saw the first accident -- had just happend as EMTs weren't there yet .. SUV flipped upside down in the median. I'm glad Bob was driving and not I -- I got to gawk at all the accidents lol.

Then as I was leaving Bob's, about a mile onto the expresssay (or HUGE freaking interstate sheesh) it was stop and go while they worked on cleaning up an accident and condensing the left to lanes into the right two lanes lol... I was actually happy to see the toll booth

My mantra for the weekend was "out of state plates I can get away with it"

On behalf of the players and GM's (can I take that stance?), Doug did a great job...again! There were some complications with double-booked slots, but he managed to make room for all the players and maximize the resources available. The GM's usually receive the lion's share of thanks from the players, but without a great coordinator, it could be a disaster. As usual, Doug spent a lot of time (and lost sleep) and a chunk of his own money to ensure that we have all the supplies, printed sheets, etc. to provide a fun experience for players. We all love to borrow his superb maps. He deserves a huge "HUZZAH" for his efforts.

on the serious side :P ... Doug needs a raise from Paizo

What I liked most about this convention was the new players. At nearly every table I ran, there was at least one person who was playing PFS for the first time, and a couple playing PF (or any RPG for that matter) for the first. Some GM's hate having new players because they don't know what to do, what dice to roll, what a lot of the terminology means, etc, but I welcome it. Yes, it slows the game down, and you likely will not be able to use the same "killer GM tactics" as normal, but IT's MORE PLAYERS FOR THE COMMUNITY, and that's always a good thing.

Thanks to the players who made this a particularly fun con for me. I look forward to seeing you all again in the future.

And it was great to finally meet Painlord (wish I could make it to your local con) and see some old faces again.
