Except that the comic ditzy manservant is the only one in the movie, besides Portman's character, that has a working brain in his head.
This was probably the raunchiest thing I've seen in a while, but it was a lot of fun. High adventure + low humor = fun.
I have to admit, I expected more from it. It was a fun movie, don't get me wrong, but it seemed like all of the funniest bits were part of the trailer. My wife felt the same way.
I saw this yesterday and I laughed quite heartily. Although most of the best bits were already previewed in the R-rated trailer, the whole opening sequence and the titles were hilarious and could've been a whole 'nother movie.
In all, I think it was by far the filthiest fantasy movie I've ever seen. And that's a good thing.

I just saw it and I have to agree: Courtney looks and acts superficially like Percy from Black Adder, but is actually a lot more like Jeeves from Jeeves and Wooster, managing to keep Thadeous alive.
This movie was really marvelous fun.
Lord, I wanted to like this movie.
Good God, but it sucked.
I finally got round to seeing this..Handed my DVD over to a mate who has a far more scatalogical sense of humour than I do.

The only bits you want in your D&D is:
(a) The sprawling town where adventurers go hang out...its massive. Adventurers failed and victorious gather there, trade informattion and head off on adventures again.
(b) The nasty Warlock Lezaar who has issues about women who talk in a freaky voice while having sex. I guess he prefers communication in a relationship.
(c) The affair a certain Prince has with the Queen of the Highland Dwarves...which botches the Diplomatic job he was there for...and the bit in the Maze where he impresses a certain lady warrior with his ability to read Highland Dwarf.
Courtney (making it sound as bad as possible): "You are fluent in highland Dwarf are you not my lord?"
Natalie (suddenly impressed): "You're fluent in highland dwarf?"

I enjoyed it, not as funny as it could have been. I think that if it had a little less lowbrow humor it would have been funnier, there were good scenes, and there were scenes that would have been funnier if they had dropped the gag sooner. I liked it, but I will admit a shade of disappointment that it wasn't better.
I thought it was great, but I knew going into it that it was going to be a fantasy-esque version of Pineapple Express.
The director's (I forget his name) story is kind of interesting. When he first popped up (a decade or so ago), he made Terence Malick-style arthouse films that caused quite a critical stir but, of course, no commercial sales. He did that for a while and then decided to sell-out and hook up with Apatow and the boys. Since then, he's been making a bit more cash.
