Fine. I very nearly allowed it anyway I liked the idea of it so much.

Man that dice roller really hates your attack rolls. Someone kill it or I have to strain my brain working out what it will do when it gets to the illusionary wall.

I know it hates me...:( I wish I had 1/3 the luck AK seems to have with the damned thing.

Linah's blade catches the hyena in flight leaving a deep gash in the side that colors the ground crimson as the creature falls (AoO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21, damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5)

Round 3, initiative 10
Linah dances past the lifeless hyena to face the massive animal engaged with Sajan (5ft step to L23 if i can occupy the same square as the dead hyena without a problem, otherwise to K23) and releases another slash strong enough to pierce the skin ((standard action to attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19, damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5, it had 19AC right?)

Fine to share a space with a helpless creature. Yep AC19 is a hit.

I'd have to go back through the posts but from memory the reason you are the moldspeaker not Sajan is you failed your fort save while he made his.

I pay homage to the dice gods at a homemade shrine each morning. A timely miss indeed but that chump stood no chance of tripping me. So I guess I did share space with Grall in the end? I'm glad you decided to delay Grall, because...

Be ready Grall! Sajan hisses as he moves to HIJ24/25 and tries to grab onto the Hyenadon with both hands.

It didn't take an AOO on Khalid so I assume it doesn't have any left?

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26 CMB vs CMD

Now!

It can't take AOO's when i'm grappling it... Get up 5 foot and wail on it.

Edited, realised I don't want squeezing penalties on this check.

Yeah you didn't want to squeeze.

Sajan manages to get a firm grip on the creature although his face goes red and his muscles strain with the effort of keeping the beast's snapping jaws from his throat. Grappled.

Grall is up.

Your not squeezed with Sajan he moved to the north of the creature before grappling.

Grall regains his feet but not yet his full balance, his attacks are thwarted by the vigorous movements of the creature in Sajan's hands and he is forced away.

Felliped continues to mantain her illusion.

Linah's slash indeed penetrates the creatures side, doing minor damage against its tough hide.

The gnolls continue back around the corner and move out of sight.

Flanking attack!

Yeah that was my fault with the revised map. Thats what I get for not double checking your co-ords. Fixing that now but Grall's hit is still a miss. Edit: Revised map LINK

HP: 49/49 AC: 22 Init: +6 Kelishite Human Inquisitor 7

Khalid moves around to flank the beast with Grall...

Attack:1d20 + 6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 1 + 2 = 26 (bless, flank)
Damage:1d6 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (4) = 10 (solo tactics)

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Nuveril meets the hyena's growl with one of her own, showing her teeth as she quickly rolls to her feet. Rise from prone, provoking AoO Once she is upright again, she swings her hammer sideways in a savage backhand, hoping to connect with fur and bone. Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Khalid lands a series of solid hits to the creature's hindquarters and it yowls in Sajan's hands.

As she gets back to her feet, Nuveril's hyena again comes in low but this time the halfing is ready, dodging adroitly aside. Her swing connects solidly, staggering the animal and seemingly taking the fight from it. Whining it limps away from the fight. AOO for Nuveril.

Bite 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 miss
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Bleeding from multiple cuts, the hyenadon puts all of its mass into jerking backwards and breaking Sajan's grip. But enlarged the monk is the creature's match and maintains the hold.

Escape 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 fail

Quick check has Sajan's enlarged CMD as 26. Sajan, Grall and Linah.

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Seeing her opening, Nuveril swings again, looking to take this dog out of the fight. AoO 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Nuveril swats the last regular hyena from its feet.

OK recalculating in the light of day and I think Sajan's enlarged CMD for grapple breakage is 23. Base 22 + 1 size + 1 str - 1 dex. Don't think the +2 for improved grapple applies to the CMD for others breaking his grapples only him breaking another's grapple. Either way its a successful grapple break and the hyenadon takes a five foot step to the se.

Under my 'Defence' spoiler you can see base CMD is 22. Its 24 for grapples (Improved Grapple does contribute to grapple CMD which is why i've included a conditional grapple CMD in the first place). With a net +1 bonus from enlarge person CMD is 25 which it met, yup.

Round 4, initiative 10
Linah presses on after the hyenadon (5ft step as a move action to take me adjacent) but is unable to cut through it's defenses to land a solid blow (standard action to attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10, damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7).

Sajan risks a glance over his shoulder, expecting more trouble to arrive any second. Focusing on the task at hand, he steps to the east in an effort to begin the progress of flanking the beast and delivers two blows to the creature that broke out of his grasp.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Edit: Bah, i'm not hearing nothing...

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Edit: I think thats two hits which should set Grall up for the kill I expect.

Sajan's 36 plus contributions from Khalid and Linah are more than sufficient.

Sajan delivers a stunning blow to the hyenadon's face and follows that with a brutal uppercut to the heart that drops the beast in its tracks.

Behind you can hear something hit the roof timbers of the guildhall just below the slate roof with a WOOOMPH, a lazy trail of smoke spirals up into the sky from the other side of the building.

Trusting that the eastern gnoll group is out of sight Felliped drops her spell, her face pinched from concentration and scuttles over to the main group. I don't like the look of that.

Combat is over for now. Actions please. We're still in rounds given buffs will be expiring shortly.

Khalid moves over to retrieve his crossbow...

"How badly injured is everyone, can we continue or do we need to retreat?"

Human Cleric 7 | hp 36/51 | channel 6/7

"We need to end the animals before i can close your wounds.", Linah says and drives her scimitar through the hyena at her feet. "Quickly, i think that might be the flame witch the gnolls spoke of", she says and points towards the smoke before releasing two waves of healing energy.

Round 1 action: Coup de grace on the hyena - damage 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3) + 4 = 11
Round 2 action: channel positive energy - 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
Round 3 action: channel positive energy - 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3

That is if we don't retreat at once. I don't think we have much of a choice than to retreat to the monestary eventually and spend the night anticipating a counter attack, then move against Kardswann the following night after sleeping during the day.

Considering how much of the Kulldis that is still left (going by Undrella's estimate):

Kardswann
12-15 of Kardswanns gnoll guards
Flind sub-chief
Flame witch
Ugdruk
8 human slavers
3 bugbears
1 ogre wrestler
10-12 Kulldis gnolls

I have two spells left and 2 channels. Veronica/Felliped has one spell left.

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Nuveril watches the hyenadon fall without her contribution, a sour look on her face, and then moves to retrieve her javelin, her mauled thigh soaking her leg with blood. down 17, about halfway "They look to be burning the building you wanted to make a stand in," she remarks to Sajan. "The smoke might help cover our retreat." She looks to Khalid, not having read Undrella's list of forces and unsure how many might be remaining.

EDIT: Make that down 10, after Linah's ninja channels. :)

Grall was planning to make sure the big Hyena was dead so that you could save a round to heal us right away. I am down 8 after your healing so only a small wound left.

That was a risk I had considered. Sajan replies simply.

Allow me to investigate the force that was coming to flank us- if its a small one it will be worth eliminating them too before falling back.

Perception/Stealth-1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20/1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 (size penalty + lower dex included)

OK that seems like two votes for staying from Sajan and Linah and 3 iffy votes from the remainder.

Assuming your staying (and there are no interruptions) thats bottom end of round 4, Grall finishes the hyenadon, Linah channels. Round 5, Linah channels, Sajan moves over to the corner of the building (the only available concealement to stealth). Round 6 Sajan stealths and looks up the path.

Can we firm up the iffys and get any actions from them please.

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Nuveril retrieves her javelin the first chance she gets. After that, she votes to withdraw fighting: moving down the road at the pace of the slowest party members and fighting as we go.

Sajans simply seeking to inform the decision and make the others aware he is fit and able to fight on. Assume his vote is Khalids unless I specify otherwise, will make things easier.

Felliped looks like she is struggling mightily to keep her fear in check as she reloads her crossbow.

I've exhausted all of my most powerful spells. Won't be able to do much other than use this.

Recounted and she is out of first level spells (enlarge, 3 burning disarm, spray and image). Unless your retreating she will be taking cover in the western buildings and sniping from cover.

*Waves hand* These aren't the droids your looking for.... By the power of DM fiat I decided not to count that one.

Fighting retreat pulling a reluctant Linah carries.

Botton of round 4. Grall brings his falchion down on the hyenadon's neck with a meaty thunk and Linah emits a healing burst.

A hurried discussion later and you are on you way west back toward the cover of the buildings lining the western path back to the lower town, Linah stopping briefly for a further channel. You hear the sound of further impacts against the guild hall, one every five seconds or so, and the dry wood seems to be catching fire.

You pass the guildhall, looking up the path.

The gnolls have crested the slope. The veiled figure, the flame witch, stands at the top. Slender hands are wreathed in roiling flame. It tilts its head down to regard you.

There are a dozen gnolls on the path, four with axes and bows arrayed around the witch, stationary, while another eight are making their way down in a sold phalanx of spears, axes and shields.

They roar at the sight of you, bursting into a trot.

Fighting Retreat!

I had that as part of the stand and fight plan. That would have ended with Sajan closer to the gnolls and everyone else further away so I don't think you were disadvantaged. If you'd like to move Sajan around thats fine. You had double Linah's movement but I assumed you were retreating in a group.

I think he'd be leading the way as a scout rather than at the back, thats all.

Sajan and Grall effectively have a round over Linah and Victoria. If you wanted to be in front, we can dial the start of the combat (ie when people see each other) back 1 round (ie main party will be 1 round east, gnolls will be one round further up the round). I don't mind either way.

I meant that if you wanted to use your greater movement to move ahead of the main group (which is what I thought you were suggesting) you would have been in essence a round ahead. You would have crossed the path a round earlier which would have started the fight a round earlier and everyone else would have been back a rounds move.

Or AA335/36 is fine.

This would be much less confusing and hassle for you re: the map, so lets go with it. FYI I was essentially hoping to scout while the group discussed to INFORM the decision, rather than as part of the 'stand and fight' decision- but I guess I didn't have sufficient time to scout anyway.

Not really. If it makes anyone feel better I decided exactly what was going to happen and when at the point the alarm went off so
the gnolls were running on a timed script.

OK people Sajan's positioning has changed as above. We're up with Linah.

Linah runs up forward then readies her shield to meet the gnolls charge (Move action to Y35, standard action to total defense (AC21 for one round, can't make AoO)).

Retconned the move. Running towards a burning building didn't feel like the wise thing to do.

Well Linah is acting before the rest of the PCs so noone really has a chance to speak before she takes her move. She is going the opposite direction as Felliped though who was heading west. The guild hall is also starting to burn although its only been a few rounds so far.

I'll post my update in a few hours when I get home. Linah has until then to change or I'll go with it.
