It has probably been asked and answered before but, does the Paladin Smite Evil ability allow the Paladin to hurt an Incorporal Undead?
Only if she uses a magic weapon to smite it. And even then, the incorporeal undead takes half damage.

So it's not that useful/powerful.

Haunting of Harrowstone is a physical attack classes bane.

(rolls eyes)

Count up the number of incorporeal undead in all three bestiaries. Write that number down.

Now count up all the evil monsters who aren't incorporeal undead (and make special note of evil outsiders and evil dragons who are particularly hurt by smite). Write THAT number down.

One of those numbers will be significantly larger than the other.

And that tells me that paladin smite evil ability is pretty dang useful. And after seeing it in play over the course of a few years in my game, I'm also willing to say that it's really rather powerful instead.

It could work like some other ability; "does half damage to Incorporal Undeads like a magic weapon would, if the weapon is a magic weapon it does full damage.".

my problem isn't comparative numbers in bestiaries, but comparative numbers in modules, hence why I mentioned CC Haunting of (or is it for) Harrowstone.

As someone who is running that adventure for a paladin, one of the high trust rewards, from the villagers is a magician rapier. Another has a morningstar. If you can get your trust up, there is no reason that you need to tackle the undead poorly equipped. Now, if you choose to rush in without aid, that,is the plyer's choice,

I think he meant "Worldwound".

Ah.

Well... in that case, since there are scales on both the maps of the Inner Sea and of the United States... that's hardly a question that I'm the only one capable of answering.

According to my handy ruler, the Worldwound is about 500 miles by 350 miles in size. Texas looks like it's about the same size, more or less. Maybe a little bigger.

Cue some helpful internet dweller to do a Worldwound/Texas overlay. And perhaps a Varisia/USA overlay while we're at it.

The Inner Sea map covers enough distance north to south that it's unlikely that a horizontal scale of miles will be accurate at every point.

Where would you figure that the given scale is most accurate? (Have you worked this stuff out on your legendary beachball-map of the world?)

I haven't taken enough classes in geology or the like to be able to say, and don't have the time or energy to teach myself how to estimate that right now. The beachball map is at work now anyway... and even then, the shape of the continents I drew on it is still in alpha mode.

AKA: The measurement you'd get from measuring on the map itself is fine.

All righty then, thanks.

They're in the bestiary, under "Herd Animal, Aurochs" And in fact, they've been part of Golarion since the start.

Liberty's Edge

James, I would like your advice on a unusual situation that will arise in my campaign.
One of the player in my campaign decided, for his background, to have a older brother that was kidnapped by bandits before she was born and that searching for her brother was one of the reasons why she became and adventurer.

She has discovered that he was sold as a slave and that later his owner and his family were slain in a slave revolt and that probably the brother survived and fled. Currently she is tracking him to his new home.
The most recent informations she has is that someone that can be her brother has studied as a bard in Pitax.

What she don't know is that his brother had a splendid singing voice as a small boy and that his owner has castrated him to preserve and enhance it (something that was really done up to the late XIX century).

I am fairly sure that she will want to get regenerate cast on him and he will agree as he hate his late owner and everything he has done.
The problem is what will happen after that.

1) the spell will restore his manhood but his voice will remain the same as he is 28 years old and the puberty changes to his body have already (not)happened?

2) or he will have to pass through puberty at his current age as his body adapt to the new situation?

3) or the spell will change him "as if" he was never castrated?

and

4) if his voice change, what kind of modifier would you apply to his perform (sing) skill until he learn to sue his new voice?

I see interesting possibilities in scenarios 1 and 2, while scenario 3 is the easiest to manage. so I would like to hear your suggestions and comments if you have the time.

James, have you ever been to Las Vegas?

If so which casino would you stay?

Do you have a preferred card or dice game outside the RPG community.

Do you like cool humid climates or the dry climates found out here in the Southwest.

Is it really that green in Seattle?

That's up to you as the GM. Go with the result that works best for the story—lacking any other input, having him be physically restored but not "instantly putting him through puberty" (option #1) seems like the most interesting option. ESPECIALLY if that means having to seek out some sort of harder to find solution to fix that gives you an adventure hook!

First off...

There aren't really "Deities of the Dark Tapestry." If you're talking about the Great Old Ones or Outer Gods, though (AKA the Lovecraftian mythos)... Dagon's relationship is one of coincidence, mostly. Just as in Lovecraft's stories, he's based on a real-world mythology, and while he has a lot of similarities to the 100% made-up creatures like Cthulhu, he's not one of them.

Nope.

Dunno. I'd probably roll dice to randomly determine it, but if there was one that had a particularly compelling hook, I'd go there. Are there any dinosaur-themed casinos?

Favorite Card Game: Magic the Gathering or Poker (tie).
Favorite Dice Game: None come to mind.

Never been to the southwest really... but I prefer cool climates that aren't humid but that aren't dry. Pacific northwest climates, in other words! :P

Yes. It's not accidentally called the Emerald City. The color green is everywhere. To the extent that when I go to Gen Con in Indianapolis, I kind of start feeling weirded out due to the lack of the color green.

James is the Bab Yaga AP coming up at all inspired by late night Hellboy reading? The Rasputin must die title immediately made me think of Wake the Devil.

While Hellboy's take on Baba Yaga is indeed interesting... the primary influence of doing Baba Yaga in Pathfinder (and thus in this AP) is more from the fact that Baba Yaga's Dancing Hut has been in D&D since the first edition of D&D, and because an adventure about her dancing hut (and her as well, of course) that was in Dragon #84 or thereabouts was and remains the best adventure ever published in Dragon.

Rasputin's role in the AP is pretty... unusual. We'll be saying more about that later, but for now, the fact that his name is in the title of the penultimate Reign of Winter AP is something that we don't want to say much more about. We want folks to think and wonder and speculate for a bit! :-)

Woah, woah, woah, woah. What's this about an adventure path featuring Rasputin? We're talking about Rasputin, Rasputin?

Must... speculate...

Stick to any casino on the south end of the strip, Sorry, no stone age themed casinos or eateries. Excalibur is medieval themed so that may be for you. Luxor, egyptian themed is de-branding so again...,

Indiana is greener anywhere in the southwest, it's just I'm so used to mountains, not flat terrain. I was at Gen Con last year and didn't get a chance to bump into you and get an autograph, I will be their again this year so chances are....7

I guess a bonus set of hit points?

Ok, I started off watching videos of BF3 clips. Somehow I ended up here. If you can't watch it, it's the scene from Beetlejuice when they all start singing The Bannana Boat Song, commonly referred to as Day-O.

My question is, do you think such a scene could be built using the Haunting mechanics?

The haunt mechanics are really pretty flexible. You can do a lot with them!

where would you put SEoni and Merisiel being born in what city??

Curious question, does your jobs at Paizo prevent you (or anyone else) from viewing all the custom content submitted via the forums? For example, there are dozens of proposed Monk 'fixes' (this is not a nag to work on the Monk). I was curious if you guys are allowed to look ad said proposals, or if you guys can't so no one can claim you stole ideas or anything like that?

I enjoy Epic Meepo's Archetypess thread, for example, but are you, as employees of Paizo, allowed to view the Archetypes?

There's also Rogue Fixes, Magus Fixes, Oracle Fixes etc, but I use Monk because it's the most numerous.

JJ,

One of my players wants to use the broad arrow from Mongoose Publishing, which increases arrow damage by one die-type while only decreasing range by 10 feet... I find this rather broken since as far as I can tell, only weapons modify damage by die-type, not ammo. Am I being too inflexible as a GM or should I stick to my guns? Is it possible to make this not broken by either reducing the range further, adding a penalty on attacks, or both?

I don't actually work on the books that would incorporate "fixes" to things like classes, so I don't really have much of a reason to go looking there.

But I did look through all the feedback threads on the boards for Rise of the Runelords when I was working on the revision to that Adventure Path, and incorporated a LOT of feedback and suggestions from those into the new book.

You're not being too inflexible at all. You ARE the GM after all. Your opinion on what is and isn't appropriate for the game is the one that matters.

Dear OCD-Rex, I mentioned to F. Was it a good idea or should I mind my own business?

James, my faovorite books for 3.5 were Stormwrack, Forstburn, and Sandstorm. Cityscape and Dungeonscape to lesser extent. My favorite article in PF so far has been your article on realm building in Pathfinder #32 (I have used the idea in 3 campaigns since then) and the GMG as a distant second. Any upcoming articles and books in the same vein as those?

i'm making a dwarven character so i started wondering...

1) i've been looking through paizo books for dwarf ideas and noticed in the npc guide there isn't a single dwarf npc...is the lack of dwarven material paizo puts out directly related to your dislike of them?

2) if you could redesign dwarves from the ground up including everything from stats to flavour...how would you design them to make them more agreeable to you?

3) (unrelated to dwarves) do you (or whoever is running games for paizo staff) allow 3rd party material in your office or home games?...i'm curious about how developers treat 3rd-party content since they aren't necessarily designed with the same eye towards balance or power level as those developed in-house...

Not yet. I've got a lot in my head about many of the iconcis, particularly Merisiel (who as many may know is my favorite of our iconics). The closest we've come to saying where she was born is in the entry for her homeland in the pregens we once printed in the backs of Pathfinder Adventure Path volumes.

But yeah... haven't yet said in print where they were born.
