Elemental weapon asplode! Requesting thoughts on expanding elemental damage.

If you could take the elemental damage weapon enhancements multiple times (say to a maximum of +5 equivalent bonus in energy damage), would that break things? Would it turn out fine?

What do you think?

I allow it without any problems.

Most people don't want a longsword that does 5d6 fire damage each hit because of the prevalence of stuff that stops elemental damage and that's +5 worth of bonus spent into it.

5d6 fire seems equal to vorpal to me.

Quick! Find the old force--damage and sonic-damage bonuses! No one's resistant to those! Stack away!!

... >.> j/k. Yeah, I don't really see an issue with this. Heck, I could see letting most of the extra effects stack within a single weapon, as long as the limits on total bonus still apply... 10d6 vicious damage in return for 5d6 to the wielder? Sounds painful.

Stack a Burst with its own element (I would limit to 1 burst, though I really don't know if the extra crit damage would break anything, either), get 4d6 + whatever.

Sovereign Court

Why would you want to put all your eggs in one basket though? If you want 5d6 of elemental damage, why not space it out so you've got some fire, acid, cold and electric damage instead of all of one?

Seems really just inefficient to want them to stack to start with. :/

The Exchange

I think it has more to do with flavor than anything. Currently, if you want to add a bunch of d6's to your weapon you have to make it into a acid/fire/ice/shock weapon, which doesn't appeal to everyone. Having a sword that is more fire than sword though, might have some basis in the Rule of Cool.

Several monsters have low amounts of resistance to multiple elements. By focusing up to say 5d6 on one element you are more likely to bust through the resistance 5~20 the monster might have while still having a +5 weapon.

Again I see it as a wash over all. Five different elements or all of one? There are about equal advantages and disadvantages to both methods IMO.
