I've given up on gift parity. Somehow there's never enough money left in the gift budget no matter when I ask. And he honestly gets upset over anything bigger than a card and some candy. He does the same thing at Christmas and his birthday, although I am at least okay to spend half as much on him for Christmas as he spends on me. Seriously. I've tried to make it even. No go. He'd skip getting Christmas presents altogether if I let him.
