My first Japanese kitty, Kage
Hikari the day I rescued her (she'd been hanging out at the onsen and begging for food from customers until I took her in), sleeping with Kage. They were very cute sleeping on my folded futon.
Kage died on the operating table while getting fixed. One of my students had kittens, and brought me a new companion for Hikari, Yami. He was very small.
So I brought them back from Japan with me.
My Japanese friends thought I was crazy for the names I chose for my cats. They especially mocked Kage and Yami. "Why do you give your cats names like ninja?"
THEY ARE SO CUTE!!!!!! Do you watch Nyan-koi at all?

I don't watch much anime lately. All my money and time goes to Pathfinder. :)
It was really hard to lose Kage that way. The poor vet didn't speak much English, so she just called me on the phone and said "Kage dead". I was a mess, but a friend came over (she had excellent Japanese) and got me to the vet, and helped translate. The poor vet was poring over a Japanese English dictionary to try to come up with an explanation (his heart gave out during anesthesia). The vet offered me cash, which I didn't accept (I felt I didn't want to pay for the procedure when the cat died, but she was out her own time and her assistant's time - they didn't owe me cash on top of that), which I sometimes think was a mistake. The relief and joy on the vet's face when I came back with Yami was telling - she really did feel awful about losing Kage.
I continue to wait impatiently for my shipping notice.
