Meh, they're not so great. They get in the way for golf and archery and other sports. They hurt. They give you bad posture. They bounce all over when you try to run or ride a horse.

Wayne Reynolds is the only person I've seen who can do all of the iconics well, consistently. ...Because he designed them in the first place.

Aping another artist's characters to the letter is ridiculously hard, and I'm not surprised at all that there has been wonky artwork and fluctuations in appearance.

And as far as red noses go, just be glad that Skip Liepke isn't doing Pathfinder covers.

Wayne Reynolds is one of those cases where I salute a mans talent and skill, but don't like the outcome. My stand on Liefeld:

I have no idea how this guy got into the comics business, and I have no idea how he got so popular so quickly. Maybe he sold his soul to Galactus. I have no idea. The comics he produced during his heyday were so terrible that I feel a little sick when I think about them.

As a human being, he seems like a really nice guy. I've seen him interviewed, and though his ego is larger than most, he takes criticism of his work in stride. My impression is that he draws comics for fun, always has, and always will.

After nearly a decade-long hiatus, Liefeld has recently come back on the scene with a more professional attitude, and, according to recent interviews, art lessons. His artwork these days, while not good by any standards, is no longer all that shockingly bad.

Basically, from what I can tell, Rob Liefeld is a goofy, upbeat, untrained hack who draws for fun, has no idea why he got popular in the first place, and doesn't care what anyone thinks. I don't like his work, but I can respect his attitude.

Pretty accurate stand IMHO

The reason he became popular was very simple. His art showed motion, and action to it. When he came out few other artists, did. Not that this means he was any good per se, but rather he was doing something few of the much better artists were. Conveying action. Which is all but essential for the genre.

I have to agree with you on the size of her figure, but I totally agree with Moorluck on the whole blond gypsy thing. It doesn't make her look exotic. It makes her look cheap. And that's coming from someone who has a bit of a thing for blonds.

I thought she was a Shoanti. Don't get me wrong, I don't get what others see in her, I just didn't think she was Varisian, just from Varisia. That's why she looks like a bleached blond bimbo.

EDIT: I was wrong, oh so wrong...she is mostly Varisian. MOSTLY! And she looks like that!

She's cute. She reminds me of a more out-there version of a friend of mine. Also, she's Sagittarian.

As we make introductions

I’m struck by her beauty
She’s irrefutably fair
With dark eyes and dark hair
But as she sits
I admit I’m a little bit wary
because I notice the tip of the wing of a fairy
Tattooed on that popular area
Just above the derrière
And when she says “I’m Sagittarian”
I confess a pigeonhole starts to form
And is immediately filled with pigeon
When she says her name is Storm.
WHERE IS THIS FROM!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

STORM

Hmmm, good question.

Lockwood. He can get gritty and I prefer his style over that of the talented Mr. Reynolds.

EDIT: I understand that Lockwood is synonymous with D&D however, but hey you asked me who I would've picked so I figured if I was gonna be wishin', I'd wish big. lol

I dig them both--Lockwood is my other favorite living fantasy artist (no one can top Frazetta. Ever). Still, I think his artwork was more identified with the Forgotten Realms. In my opinion, every setting needs its own definitive art style.

Absolutely, see my above edit. lol.

I would like to say again though, I wish to take nothing away from Wayne, dude is an awesome talent. It's kind of like how I can say I think a certain music artist has talent, but I dislike their music. It doesn't mean it's crap, just not my preference.

I may be wrong, as I only caught the tail-end of Liefeld Mania when I was a kid, but I really don't remember a lot of motion.

Especially in his comic book covers.

Granted, at the age of nine, I was more into this stuff than "Youngbloods" (the super-team, not the band), so my perspective may be skewed. Still, even Spawn (I still can't believe I thought Spawn was the greatest thing ever, but I did) had better lines of action than ...this.

I've got to say, I've appreciated WAR more as he has grown on me over time--at first I found him really annoying. I'd still prefer Lockwood, Parkinson (RIP), or Elmore. But don't let Elmore draw dragons. Poor cross-eyed bastards.

Seconded on Elmore's dragons.

As for WAR, I can honestly say that up until the mid-00s, he wasn't all that good. I think he was still finding his style. For example, compare his work for D&D 3.0 (199-2000) with some of his work from Magic: the Gathering (2007) or Pathfinder (2009-2010) There is a marked difference, even over just seven or eight years.

Most of this is being blocked from work. I will chock it up to good taste. Yes he is a horrid artist. I do not understand it either. I just remember the why's and whereof's being passed around at the time. His art was very different. As much as they made of it I still would never call it good.
